The first set is going to be called Adamant Diamond and Lustrous Pearl Base Set, in honor of my first Pokemon game, Pokemon Diamond (also I really want Gen IV remakes)

This set will feature the Sinnoh starters, the Creation trio, 10-EX cards, 4 MPokemon-EX cards, and 123 different Pokemon total. I plan to use Gen V and VI Pokemon as well.

Themes will include the rift in Time/Space, accelerated evolution, and energy gained from evolution.

To start it off, have a Turtwig!

Turtwig/ 70/ Basic/ [G]

After your Opponent's next turn, search your deck for a Grotle and put it on top of this card (this counts as evolving Turtwig) shuffle your deck afterwards.

Grotle/110/Stage 1/[G]

[C][C] Synthesis

And now for some synergy!

Sunkern/30/Basic/[G]

Ability: Flower Growth
Once during your turn (before your attack) if this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon you may search your deck for a Pokemon that evolves from this Pokemon and put it in your hand. Shuffle your deck afterwards.

[G] Solar Energy
Heal 10 Damage from this Pokemon

Weakness [R] X 2/Resistance [W]-20/ Retreat Cost [C]

Sunflora/70/Stage 1/[G]

Ability: Flower Gift
All Pokemon on your Bench are now [G] in addition to their existing types

[G][C] Slap 40

Weakness [R] X 2/Resistance [W]-20/ Retreat Cost [C]

Chimchar/60/Basic/[R]

[R] Play With Friends
Discard as many [R] Energy attached to this Pokemon as you like. For each Energy you discarded in this way, search your deck for a Chimchar, Monferno, or Infernape, show them to your opponent, and put them into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward.

[R][C] Flame Wheel 30

Weakness [W] X 2/Resistance/ Retreat [C]

Monferno/80/Stage 1/[R]

[R] Play with Friends
Discard as many [R] Energy attached to this Pokemon as you like. For each Energy you discarded in this way, search your deck for a Chimchar, Monferno, or Infernape, show them to your opponent, and put them into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward.

[R][R] Mach Punch 50+
You may choose to do an extra 20 damage to your opponent's Active Pokemon at any point during your opponent's next turn.

Weakness [W] X 2/Resistance/ Retreat [C]

I would love some critique on the wording for Play With Friends for Monferno and Chimchar.

Edit: I fixed Play with Friends based on bbninja's critique.

I really would like to help you out on the wording for Play With Friends, but I actually don't know how..

The only thing I want to know is about the Fire Energy discard. Is that from Chimchar/Monferno or from your hand?

Should be from the P0kemon itself. I'll fix that up. Thanks.

Now to finish up that evolution line:

Infernape/150 HP/Stage 2/[R]

[R][R][R] Fiery Fists 150
Your opponent's Active Pokemon is now Burned. If your opponent flips tails in between turns, put 4 damage counters instead of 2 on that Pokemon.

Play with friends should be worded like this:

Discard as many [R] Energy attached to this Pokemon as you like. For each Energy you discarded in this way, search your deck for a Chimchar, Monferno, or Infernape, show them to your opponent, and put them into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward.

You had it pretty good - just the order would've been better. Remember to show cards to your opponent in most cases when you get a card from your deck.

Time to do some more faking. Thinking about starting image fakes so that my league can play with these Pokemon. Probably not gonna happen, but Torterra makes me happy.

Anyways, time for the Piplup family:

Piplup/ 60/ Basic/ [W]

[W] Peck 10

Weakness [G] X 2 / Resistance [M] -20/ Retreat Cost [C]

Piplup/ 100/Stage 1/ [W]

Ability: Pride
If at any time there is more than 1 Prinplup in play, discard Prinplup in play and all cards attached them (both yours and your opponent's) until there is only 1 Prinplup in play. If this Pokémon is in play and your opponent puts a Prinplup and into play, play Rock-Paper-Scissors. Whoever wins chooses which Prinplup is discarded.

[W][W] Water Lance 50
This attack does 20 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. (If that Pokemon is a [R] Pokemon, apply Weakness and Resistance, otherwise, do not apply Weakness and Resistance to Benched Pokemon).

Weakness [G] X 2 / Resistance [M] -20/ Retreat Cost [C]

Empoleon/ 180/ Stage 2/ [W]

Ability: Imperial Acceleration
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may attach 2 [W] energy from your discard pile to 1 your Pokemon.

[W][W][W][W][W] Imperial Destruction 100+
You may do 100 more damage, if you do, discard all energy attached to this Pokemon and this Pokemon can't attack next turn.

Weakness [G] X 2 / Resistance [M] -20/ Retreat Cost [C][C]

I really like my take on this evolution line because it draws from the design of the Pokemon. The Pride ability is a huge drawback so I knew that I would have to make Empoleon somewhat overpowered if it wanted to see play.

That completes the Sinnoh starters, so let's move on to some other Pokemon:

Ponyta/ 60/Basic/ [R]

[C] Stomp 10

[R] Fire Charge 30
Flip a coin. If heads search your deck for a [R] Energy card and attach it to this Pokemon.

Weakness [W] X 2 / Resistance / Retreat Cost [C]

Ponyta/ 100/Stage 1/ [R]

[C][C] Agility
Search your deck for a [R] Energy card and put it into your hand.

[R][R] Fiery Stampede 20x
Both players reveal their hands. This attack does 20 times the number of [R] Energy cards in both players hands, discard piles, and attached to both players' Pokemon.

Weakness [W] X 2 / Resistance / Retreat Cost

Buizel/ 50/Basic/ [W]

[C] Float Away
Switch this Pokemon with one of your Benched Pokemon.

[W][C] Tail Slap 30

Weakness [G] X 2 / Resistance [M]/ Retreat Cost [C]

Floatzel/ 100/Stage 1/ [W]

[C] Rescue
Put a Supporter card from your discard pile into your hand.

[W][C][C] Swimming Strike 70+
If you played a Supporter card from your hand during this turn, this attack does 60 more damage.

Weakness [G] X 2 / Resistance [M]/ Retreat Cost [C]

EDIT: fixed wordings and balancing based bbninjas advice

The creativity is real! I love that Prinplup! Ultra neat unique use of design space, the type of thing that gets me quite excited! If you don't mind, I might steal the Pride Ability one day. ( :x ) That said, the Pride Ability feels a bit clunky; this is how I would word it:

If at any time there is more than 1 Prinplup in play, discard Prinplup in play and all cards attached them (both yours and your opponent's) until there is only 1 Prinplup in play. If this Pokémon is in play and your opponent puts a Prinplup and into play, play Rock-Paper-Scissors. Whoever wins chooses which Prinplup is discarded.

Otherwise, there are a few other wording things I suggest you fix up:
- all numerals are written in digit form. As such, "one" should be "1".
- Contractions (i.e. do not) should be written in the contracted form (i.e. don't).
- "[R]-type Pokemon" should be written "[R] Pokemon".
- "do" in Prinplup's attack should be "This attack does".
- All "energy" should be capitilised.
- In Imperial Acceleration, you attach "Energy cards". Energy are referred to as "Energy cards" whenever they are not in play.
- "can't attack next turn" should be "can't attack during your next turn".
- "Flip a coin, if heads" should be "Flip a coin. If heads,". Similar deal with "more damage, if you do," in Empoleon.
- "supporter" should be capitilised as "Supporter".
- You may also like to consider adding a full stop after sentences, as it makes things easier to read. :p

As for power, I think Empoleon's Ability is a bit OP. This is because unlike Blastoise and Deluge, Energy is in the discard pile... perhaps one of the most common locations for Energy. As such, the Ability accelerates much more crazily than Blastoise. I'd suggest limiting the Ability to this:

Once during your turn (before your attack), you may attach up to 2 [W] Energy from your discard pile to 1 of your Pokémon.

This way Empoleon is still quite powerful, but it isn't broken when accelerating a Pokemon like Keldeo-EX. It encourages setting up a couple of Empoleon too, which is nice.

Also, in case you didn't know, most official leagues will not allow the use of image-base fakes for play. :p

Thanks for the tips. I'll go over the cards again. It's been like 2 or 3 months since I last tried, so I'm a little rusty.

My league might. It's super, super casual because the number of players that show up consistently are limited to me and one other person. If not then I could still play it with my girlfriend or something (I will find a way to use Torterra!)

Oh, I was also going to say that you should watch the HP. Empoleon's HP is insanely high (compare to official Empoleon cards), and Prinplup is a bit high too.

Just make sure that if you do create some image-based fakes that they aren't top-tier powerful, otherwise it might not be fun for your opponent. ;P

I was thinking about the HP when I was making the card. It does seem a bit high. I wanted to balance Prinplup's drawback with a really good Empoleon, since the other two don't have that drawback. These cards aren't really made with Maxies/Archies or any other current card in the format in mind--maaaaybe Blacksmith and FOGP and other "staples" (Ultra Ball, Discard/draw 7, N, Rare Candy, Level Ball). For the most part, these cards are meant to play with each other. I was thinking of printing Broken Time-Space with an errata not allowing Pokemon to evolve with Trainer cards on the turn they are played, that way you would have to wait a turn to Rare Candy into Empoleon.

The idea was to put Stage 2 cards at the same power level as EXs. Torterra's HP is 170 and Infernape's is 150.

I might take away Bide Time for Piplup, since, it makes it too easy to counter other Prinplups. That could be a problem as again, I intend to errata Broken Time-Space. Also, Bide Time does not draw from Piplup's design. I was basing the Ability off of Dawn's Piplup from the anime, but Bide was more of a counter to Evolution than a means of accelerating it.

A simple Noibat. Why not?

And finally:

I made a card! Comments are much appreciated. This is my first one!

Nice card! It looks very nice, especially for your first attempt, although there a few things you might like to look at:

- The Pokemon name should be of a higher font size and squished *slightly*.
- the HP is a bit too close to the [G] symbol, and probably could be pushed up a pixel or two.
- The Tree Stomp attack (name and effect) is a bit close to Continental Shift - you should drop it down so it is more padded out.
- The Pokedex flavour is too far to the left, and looks a bit bold.
- The Weakness/Resistance font might be wrong (though I'm not 100% on that). I haven't ever found a font that I'm happy with, so I tend to rip them from HQ cards or use the x2/-20 provided by the resource creator.
- The 7/? seems to be the wrong font. As is the Pokedex Data, that looks like Century Gothic. :p
- The Pokedex Data should be centered on the bar.
- The attack effect should be justified. See official cards for an example.
- The attack damage looks like it is the wrong font or bolded or something.
- The attack names should be squished *slightly*, like the Pokemon name.
- The attack effects could probably have a bit more space between each line.
- The illustration, set number and rarity should probably be moved a few more pixels up.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest you check out @Jabberwock's DIY placement guide that you can find here and Asche's non-software specific font guide linked in the XY era section here.

And for wording:

- "Pokemon" should be accented as "Pokémon".
- "one" should be "1".
- The clause stating only one Continental Shift Ability may be used per turn should be written as "You can’t use more than 1 Victory Star Ability each turn." as according to Victini NVI's Victory Star Ability.
- There should be a comma (,) after "(before your attack)".
- "Opponent's" should be lowercase, as "opponent's".
- "their" should be "his or her".

It may look like a lot, but no need to worry - if you put the effort in, you'll get a hang of it! If you use Photoshop, you could also use this guide.

That does seem like a lot! It is a first card though. I was using Paul Snoops's text guide (after downloading all the fonts from the Faker's Resource thread) and the fonts on the guide were missing, so I did my best to fill them in. I'm glad it's all minor fixes though. It means that I'm doing something right!

I also need help brainstorming a set logo (the little thing that appears in the bottom-right corner of a card--Steam Seige's is a little gear). I was thinking something involving the Adamant/Lustrous Orb, but it's probably beyond my graphical skills.

I'm not actually too sure how accurate Snoop's guide is, so I would recommend putting an official card over top (best would be an XY Torterra if there is one) as another guide. For the fonts, Asche's software non-specific guide will be good. Another I did just notice, though, is that the attacks and effects start a bit too far to the left. Again, see an official card for where there proper placements.

I would like to compliment you on your art choice - ishman's art are great, dynamic choices that work well on card art (unlike some other art I've scene Dx).

I'm happy to create the logo for you providing you've got a good idea of what you want and preferably a sketch. I think the orbs might be a bit too general to make into a symbol (they'll just look like a circle). Some ideas I've got personally are:

- a symbol depicting a rift between two sides
- a simplistic version of one of Dialga's metal appendages
- a simplistic version of Palkia's shoulder plate

Thanks for the advice, again. The only Torterra card I can think of in recent memory is from Plasma Storm, I don't know if that will work though.

I kinda want to be the one to make it, because I need that experience. Your suggestions definitely helped though. I'm now thinking Palkia's shoulder plate with Dialga's diamond in the center.

So I came up with two possible set logos that are very similar.

ADLPSetlogo.png
They're kinda large, I know. In my experience, it's better to have a larger image.

Nice! The black version would be better as a set symbol, as the symbols typically are white on black. That said, it does need a white outline.
