Update: Added the rest of the cards(except for the Colorless types, which I haven't typed up yet). Some of them I'm not sure whether they're OP or not. I also added some drawings of a few of the Fakemon.

I really haven't kept this up... Anyway, I'd appreciate some feedback if at all possible. I've been trying to improve my art skills, but I haven't had much time.

If anyone would like to help out, please reply here or PM me :).

Perhaps you should try making some random individual cards? It's much easier to give feedback on cards over a gradual time period, rather than all at once. :)

Yeah... I like that idea xD. I think I'll try my hand at some actual image fakes. I have one that I started (a Shedinja EX), but I never finished it because I'm bad at Photoshop effects (and I actually don't have Photoshop; I use Paint.NET).

Made my first image fake (art is mine):
Hhaking2.png

How is it? Did I get the fonts right? I changed a few things from the text-based version to make it a bit more balanced.

Y'know... now that I think about it... Making Double Agent this: "As long as this Pokémon is your Active Pokémon, whenever your opponent's attack damages this Pokémon, your opponent flips 2 coins. If either is tails, that attack does nothing. If both are tails, all effects of that attack, including damage, are done to the Attacking Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance.)" would be better in my opinion.

Who made the blank? Or, did you edit a scan yourself?

Anyways, font's look good for everything aside from the PokeDex Entry box, which should be a faux italic and faux bold Sanvito Pro Light Caption, and the 2 in "x2" should be the same font as the attack figures, which is Futura Std Heavy. For other things:

- The text for Double Agent is far too small. The attack name and text can be moved up and down respectively to allow for larger text size, and if absolutely necessary, and if that fails, then you can drop the attack text size of "Smog" and "Double Agent" to be equal.
- You're missing the illustrator and the set text, which you should add. The illustrator in particular.

That's really good for a first fake. Nicely done. :)

There are a few things I might suggest beyond what bb noted, but this is getting really nitpicky, so don't feel like you have to do any of it. :p

  • The name seems to be a pixel or two too high. The bottom part of the 'g' should be just a pixel or so above the bottom of the name bar.
  • The 'Evolves from' text and the stats bar text both seem to be in dark grey, where they would ideally be black. The font also seems a bit off, but I can't quite figure out why.
  • The Ability name text looks a bit bright. #c23600 (hexadecimal) is what I use (and I think asche does too), but bb and Bigfoot have a different color. Not sure what theirs is. :/
  • Both attack texts should be Justified, so the right edges of each line of text line up.
  • The attack damage font should probably be Futura std - Heavy.
Hope that all makes sense. Like I said, it's really incredible that this is your first fake. Keep it up! :)

I usually remove the credit line on blanks to make it more aesthetically pleasing when/if I print it out, but I'll put it back before I upload the final version to here/dA. I just don't like seeing text in the yellow border. I don't mean any disrespect to blank-makers; the text there just annoys me :/.

I couldn't find a font guide that was in a format I could open, so I used another fake as a reference. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite the same size, so that's why there are slight inconsistencies. Is there a font guide for the larger blanks that isn't a .psd somewhere?

Also, I don't know why I made the text for Double Agent so small xD. I'll fix that and the other things tomorrow.

... I just realized I forgot to add the holo effect... and also that I don't know how to do that. I'm assuming you make a new layer, put it between the art and the blank, then make the layer partially transparent? Of course, the Pokémon should be excluded from the holosheet... so just make a new layer and cut/paste it over the holosheet layer?

EDIT: Just saw your post @Jabberwock - The reason the 'Evolves from' line looks a bit weird is because I didn't know what font it was supposed to be, so I used the closest approximation (and yes, both of the lines you said were in dark gray are; I don't know why I did that). The justification of the attack text is a bit hard in Paint.NET because I don't think there's an actual 'Justify' button. I can move them pixel-by-pixel, though, but that's a pain xD. And you're right - the Ability text does look weird now that you mention it... I'll change that.

Yeah, you need to keep the credit there. It's actually both illegal being misuse of another artist's copyright, and against our PB rules to remove the copyright (as we will otherwise have to remove your pieces). So, please fix the card up so it retains copyright within 24 hrs. :)

We've written a guide on DIY fonts and placements, which you can check out here.

There's a holosheet section to our faking guide here.

I figured as much about the credit line. I'll add it back first thing tomorrow.

Thanks for the links! I'll check them out.

Alright, here is the fixed version. I couldn't justify the lines perfectly (since PDN doesn't have that feature :< ).

I also updated the other post with this version of the card so it doesn't cause issues just hanging around.

Hmm... I'm facing a problem. I don't have art for anything but the ones I posted in the OP (and even then only one of them was colored - the one I already made into a card xD), so I don't feel very motivated to make more cards until I make/get art. I'm not too good at drawing a different pose from existing art, and my fakemon are essentially fusions of two or more existing Pokémon. I guess I could get a stock image of some scenery and stick an Unown Q in front of it for its card... hm.

I just wish I could get an artist to help out :/.

Also I have some other fakes that I made about a year ago, but they're just trainers and use stock images from the internet:

City of Revulsion.png Intersect.png Trifold Basin.png

These were made before I realized I could use Paint.NET, so they're not as good in terms of everything working out properly.

Oh and the OP-as-heck-but-slightly-balanced-because-it's-an-ACE-SPEC card:
Rainbow Vision.png
(I forgot to add the thing on the e in Pokémon in this one)

You can generally find artists willing to let you use their work on cards, but you we've got a list of some artists here (I do recommend you read the first three posts in that thread, as they'll answer many questions you have).

I'll still need art for my Fakemon, though. I have so many ideas for names, lol. My favorites are Anodamp and Flowtasten.

I just can't draw a good looking Lasarat... I've tried, but it always turns out a mess. Sunshine/Ghost typing, rat-like. Has head spike things like Salamence, but only 2, legs like Arceus, and feet that are clawed. I don't know why I'm describing it though. xD.

EDIT: Oh my. I just found an almost perfect rendition of Lasarat from my head, but it's by another person and it wasn't for me... It's by Twime777...

valkyrie_fakemon_by_twime777-d8tas6i (lasarat).png

Well, I made another :D.

Jirachi.png

I assume it's better to put them in spoilers, right?

I also noticed that the font for the name of the Pokémon is a bit off, but I'm not sure what the correct font is. I'm having issues with my editor where it doesn't give me all the fonts I have installed :/. Oh well.

I think I might try drawing Lasarat again. See if it turns out okay this time.

Is the font pack found here working? Otherwise, there is a nifty XY guide that provides fonts for each part of the card (although keep in mind that size and positioning may be different because the guide is for different blanks).

Just tried to unzip the font pack and it gave me some strange error. Something about not being able to copy the files in the zip. Weird.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a couple Ancient Traits I came up with (they're in the first post, but they're kinda hard to find):

λ Disrupt - Whenever this Pokémon is inflicted with a Special Condition, flip a coin. If heads, the Attacking Pokémon is affected by the same Special Conditions.
λ Reflect - Whenever this Pokémon is damaged by an opponent’s attack, flip a coin. If heads, put 3 damage counters on the Attacking Pokémon.

Personally I really like λ Disrupt. Not so much λ Reflect; it just seems too similar to a certain Ability.

Just tried to unzip the font pack and it gave me some strange error. Something about not being able to copy the files in the zip. Weird.
Hm, some zipped files aren't compatible with Windows Unzipper. 7-Zip is probably the most reliable unzipper - and it's free to download!

I just tried WinRAR; didn't work. Guess I'll try 7Zip next xD.

Also I drew something :3

I haven't finished the front legs yet. And really even the back feet... They look weird. Maybe they need to be actual paws or something instead of clawed toes.

Made another card.

On my phone, so double post again (it hates the edit screen). Anyway, I should probably change the thread title. Since it's not just text fakes any more. Oh and I realized I forgot the stats bar on Shelburn xD.

So how is my artwork? Any tips would be appreciated.
