Ruling Attack Effects

If an attack says something along the lines of... "At the end of your opponents next turn, the Defending Pokemon is now Asleep." If the opponent switched Pokemon during his or her turn, is the new Defending Pokemon Asleep?

Another question:
If I switch for what ever reason my Pokemon with that Attack Effect is switched or Knocked Out, does the Effect still take place?

The answer to both is no. In the first case, the Defending Pokemon is the one hit by the attack. Say I have a Gengar SF active and he gets hit by this attack of yours. If I retreat, I avoid the sleep. If I don't, I get put to sleep. This also works if this Gengar gets back to the frontlines again (By virtue of a switching trainer) - the moment a Pokemon is send to the bench, the effect of such attack fades away.
The same goes for your second question.
