Hello, welcome to my RMT. I have been developing this team for a while, and I think it has done pretty well, peaking at #30 on the Smogon server. Hopefully you fill like the team, but find flaws so that I can peak even higher, maybe even number one.
Changes are in bold.
Team Building:
I started this team right after finishing a previous team that didn’t do as well as I had hoped. I wanted to make a stall team that could still get a few pokemon out quick. Aggressive stall you could say. I decided to start looking for sets. On of the sets that really came out at me was the RestTalk Milotic set. With Multiscale and the right EVs, Milotic would be nearly unstoppable. I decided that Milotic would be the first pokemon on my team.
I knew that Milotic was not perfect. There were plenty of pokemon, Ferrothorn, Celebi, and Rotom-W in particular that would sweep right threw it. I decided that I needed a FGW core that could fit in with Milotic. I decided with Heatran and Celebi, the feared Celetran combo.
The set I had picked for Milotic included Rest, Sleep Talk, Scald, and Dragon Tail. Dragon Tail was for forcing switches, and I wanted to use it. That would need hazards, so I decided to specially design a Forretress set for my needs.
Now I decided that I needed a lead. I eventually decided that Sableye might be a very good thing for me.
Now I had a pretty good spread for a team, I needed to find my weaknesses. I decided that one of my main weaknesses was ground types. If I ran into anything with a ground move and some move to hurt Celebi, I was screwed. I decided to get a flying type. That flying type was Tornadus.
Tornadus wasn’t exactly holding its weight. I wasn’t always used to its kind of hyper-offensive approach. After trying out a few pokemon, Magnezone and Togekiss, I decided on a DD Dragonite.
This was a pretty good set-up, but Tornadus hadn’t been the only reason I was losing battles. I was starting to notice in the more developed metagame, Sableye wasn’t as amazing as it was before. I decided to replace it with a real annoyance, Sub Disable Gengar.
This is my team so far, and it has been doing very well, though I would like to see if anyone can find any flaws that I can’t.
In-Depth:
Gengar (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Disable
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
Description:
This Gengar is all you could ever ask for with a lead. It is strong, annoying, and gets as many rage-quits as you will ever see on a server. I swear, most sweeps I have come from this Gengar against unsuspecting teams. Surprisingly enough, that is not the only roll that this Gengar takes. It is an amazing anti-HO pokemon, out-speeding almost everything, disabling whatever good move it has, and sweeping the team. It also serves as a spin-blocker. If I start with Forretress, or I want to get out of the game early, I have Gengar waiting for another Forretress to come in, catch the Rapid Spin, and Focus Blast and Shadow Ball it to death. I am thinking of replacing Focus Sash with Leftovers because Gengar can usually get a Sub up pretty quickly, ruining the Focus Sash, seeing that I have no Wish support. Besides that Gengar is an amazing Pokemon that I intend to keep on my team.
Synergy:
Ghost: Forretress, Heatran
Dark: Forretress, Heatran
Physic: Forretress, Celebi, Heatran
Works Well With: Forretress
Forretress (M) @ Custap Berry
Trait: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin
- Gyro Ball
Description:
Forretress is one of the mandatory parts of my team that really gets everything clicking. It is a key part of Milotic’s strategy, and a very nice addition to Heatran and Gengar’s ability to force switches. You may be initially wondering why I chose these two set-up moves. The reason is, Stealth Rock hits everything, and Toxic Spikes is amazing for stalling out Pokemon later in the game. Rapid Spin is almost mandatory for my team, and Forretress utilizes it very well. I use Gyro Ball as an attacking move because it actually does pretty well against some powerful physical sweepers. Forretress is not absolutely needed for this team, but it fits really well and I want to keep it.
Synergy:
Fire: Milotic, Heatran, Dragonite
Works Well With: Gengar
Heatran (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 128 Def / 132 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Lava Plume
- Torment
- Protect
- Substitute
Description:
If you have seen any of my other teams, you have probably seen Heatran, especially this certain Heatran. TormenTran, the bane of countless Pokemon and teams. It works especially well with Toxic Spikes up, letting it stall out anything affected by them that doesn’t have two moves that can 2HKO it. If you are unlucky enough to be battling against me in that situation, your pokemon is pretty much dead. Torment, Substitute, and Protect creates a barrier that protects it from very common threats, such as Tyranitar, Politoed, Hippowdon, or basically anything that has only one move that can break its sub. With these EVs that’s pretty hard. Heatran is an extremely important part of the team, and I will not replace it.
Synergy:
Ground: Gengar, Celebi, Dragonite
Water: Celebi, Milotic, Dragonite
Fighting: Gengar, Celebi, Dragonite
Works Well With: Dragonite
Celebi @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 200 SAtk / 56 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Baton Pass
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Description:
Celebi is a very important part of my FGW core, and on a little bit greater scale, the whole team. Celebi is kind of the glue that holds the team together and makes it truly annoying. It achieves this with the Calm Mind and Baton Pass duo. I have three special-based pokemon on my team, and two of them rely on both special attack and special defense. With Calm Mind and Baton Bass, Celebi can set up and then pass it to another pokemon that can tear through teams with the extra boost. I like using this mainly with Milotic. I pass +3 Special Attack and Defense to an already buffed up pokemon, and the result is havoc. Milotic goes through whole teams without going below 50% health. Giga Drain and HP Fire have good coverage.
Synergy:
Bug: Gengar, Forretress, Heatran, Dragonite
Fire: Heatran, Milotic, Dragonite
Flying: Heatran
Ice: Forretress, Heatran, Milotic
Poison: Gengar, Forretress, Heatran
Dark: Forretress, Heatran
Ghost: Forretress, Heatran
Works Well With: Milotic
Milotic (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Marvel Scale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Scald
- Dragon Tail
Description:
Milotic is a beast. Period. It is one of the most amazing Pokemon that I have ever used, and I have used a lot of Pokemon. RestTalk Milotic is the one of the most defensively destructive pokemon ever. It defense and special defense are already high, but when Milotic uses Rest to boost its health, it falls asleep, raising its defense by 50%. It can then stall out almost all physical attackers. With a few Calm Mind boosts from Celebi, it can stall out any pokemon out there. Well, unless it has Water Absorb. Then I switch to Celebi.
Synergy:
Grass: Gengar, Forretress, Heatran, Celebi, Dragonite
Electric: Celebi
Works Well With: Celebi
Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def.
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Substitute
- Roost
- Dragon Claw
- Brick Break
Description:
Dragonite is the last pokemon team, and a fine wrap-up to my team. Dragonite with Multi-scale, Substitute, and Roost instantly becomes a wall. Multi-scale halves the damage of attacks at full health. This means that when you use Substitute and Roost, you have half-powered attacks being fired at a sub, while Dragonite eventually wears down the opponent. When the Substitute breaks, Dragonite still has full health, so I can repeat. Dragon Claw and Brick Break provides perfect coverage.
Synergy:
Ice: Forretress, Heatran, Milotic
Dragon: Forretress, Heatran
Rock: Ooops...
Works Well With: Heatran
Strategy
I think that you might have been able to flesh out my strategy by now. This team is basically centered on setting up hazards, taking away the opponent's hazards, and then stalling until the team is weakened. After that, I can easily sweep with either Dragonite or Gengar.
Conclusion
Well, that's my team. I have done very well with it, winning many battles. I haven't peaked anywhere noticeable mostly because of all the rage-quits this teams gets. Believe me, its annoying. Hopefully you will rate, and find what I can not.[/size]
