I just beat the first game and I'm working on JFA right now. Come on in and talk Ace Attorney.

Note on Game Spoilers: Due to the nature of the game, spoilers can greatly impact one's enjoyment of the game. Please be courteous and label all spoilers.

Discussion Topic #1: What cases do you enjoy? Which are your favorites?

So far, my favorite case right now is 1-5
Scientifically speaking, Rise from the Ashes gets a lot of flak for how long it is, with 3 investigation days and 7 court sessions. Yet, I didn't really feel like the case dragged on. There was the second day in court with Meekins that I found myself questioning the purpose of, but it was kinda cleared up by the third day.

And holy crap, that third day! The leadup to Gant being the big bad and how the judge wasn't willing to accept it due to his position. It really felt like a final case. Turnabout Goodbyes didn't feel like that grand of a case to me, though I'm admittedly not a fan of Edgeworth. I saw von Karma as the villain from a mile away, especially due to how the game portrayed him as. Rise from the Ashes was incredibly satisfying, especially after the literal length you had to go through for that not guilty verdict.

Also, paging fellow Ace Attorney nerds @quakingpunch73 , @PikaMasterJesi , @thegrovylekid . Tag your fellow attorney nerds to bring them in here.

My favorite case has to be 2-4, due to the 3 new characters that were introduced: Adrian Andrews, Matt Engarde, and Shelly DeKiller. I can't really explain how amazing this case is, with several firsts for the series.

1. Maya gets kidnapped!

2. The defendant is actually guilty, but Phoenix is blackmailed into making him innocent!

3. Losing the final part of the trial will get you a special bad ending!

However, I enjoy 3-4 the most because of how it provides a moderate challenge for the player, without having any boring investigation sections.

2-4 is a pretty amazing case. I really liked 1-3 though, because it was nice and quirky while still maintaining a sense of seriousness and dark content. Sal Manella is creepy, though... and the language used is a little different from every other case, which makes me wonder if someone else wrote that case from the others.

I'll admit, I've never played an AA game before. However, I just downloaded them onto my IPad, so if none of you have any objections, I've got some games to play.

That's going to be how I end up playing Dual Destinies, since my 3DS says I'm too young... You'll like the series, Carson. It's great. I love it. But Al Catraz is better! ^v^

...that's the only one I had...

I'm almost at the end of 2-2 right now. Overall, not really impressed with the game compared to the original. 2-1 sucks for readily apparent reasons when you play the case, and I've not big on 2-2 due to the large emphasis on Japanese culture, which is totally foreign to me so I can't really appreciate it. I have the same problem with 5-2.

...and I know all about 2-3. Hopefully, 2-4 will be enough to salvage the game.

Disappointed that I wasn't tagged, as I'm a huge AA nerd, but I guess PP had no reason to know that. :p Been in love with the games since the first one came out for the DS in the west, imported a Japanese copy of Justice For All from Japan rather than wait for the US release, cosplayed as Franziska von Karma at ACen (which was a lot of fun), and my current username was changed as a reference to the character from Dual Destinies. :D

Favourite Case is a hard one. The main-plot cases from Trials and Tribulations are probably my favourite overall, but you really need to play all of the cases to appreciate them, so it's hard to single out just one. My favourite standalone case would have to be "Farewell, My Turnabout", the final case in JFA, which was a very cool and unique conclusion to what is otherwise the weakest game in the AA series.

Well, I just beat Turnabout Sisters. It was a good case, though there are a few parts where you rally just have to present evidence and pray, because it isn't very obvious. Aside from that, I can't decide if I love or hate April May, and Redd White is that one guy you want to take down. Except he's prett easy, though I did lose a bit of credibility because I almost fell asleep at one point (I'm up way too late.) Overall, it was a fun case story-wise but fell slightly flat in gameplay. Definitely my favourite of the two AA cases I've played :p

The first Turnabout was pretty cool as well, though as a first case it's really simple.

I've played every game in the series, including Ace Attorney VS Professor Layton. Worship me.

...Except for that Sherlock Holmes prequel crossover that is only released in Japan of course

Oh yes, I've played the game on an emulator using an english patch. It was amazing. Probably my third favorite AA game in the serie. The investigation games shouldn't be called spin-offs if you ask me.

Also I'm totally in the dark about the new Ace Attorney game :D All I know about is the Prosecutor and a certain detective. So if anyone wants to talk about them, spoiler tags would be appreciated.

Maya's back!
The terrible names are back in full force with names like Albi Yurgaid.
Apollo is the Defence attorney in the final case.

AAI2 was indeed really good. The "logic chess" thing didn't make any sense whatsoever, but it's AA, so I forgive it. The translation team did a very good job as well. Some of the same people are working on a translation for Great Ace Attorney, which was the Sherlock-inspired prequel that didn't get translated outside of Japan. I was actually originally on their team to work as an editor, but I ended up bowing out of the project since I've been too busy with other things.

Are they expecting people to get Gateway flash carts for their 3DS now? Because I've tried using Citra (the best and only 3DS emulator), and 3 FPS isn't all that great. It's still VERY impressive that they've made one, though. It'd still be interesting to see the game, though, even though it has no Phoenix or Edgeworth...
(If anyone's asking why I know this stuff, I've actually done a small amount of 3DS hacking, despite my age. I've got ROM files for OR, SSB4, and Sonic Generations form what I remember.)

3DS emulating is still in its infancy, but it will get better over time. When the project is released, it'll be for whoever can play it (either via R4 cart or emulator or whatever) and as the technology improves, more people will have access to the game. It's not exactly like they have all too many options anyway.

At the very least, I'm glad it at least exists. It's cool to mess around with that kind of stuff.

Also, quick question: I'm hoping to get Dual Destinies on the 3DS, but the eShop won't let me view the game. However, I am able to buy it from Nintendo's website, so if I were to redeem a code for an M-rated game for an NNID that can't view M-rated games, will it let me download it?

I think if it'll let me buy it, it'll let me redeem it. If it doesn't, I have a plan to film myself buying the code so that I can prove Nintendo allowed me to buy the game when I "shouldn't" have.

If you can't view the game, you can't purchase it.

The Nintendo website gives me the option to buy it, though... weird. I hope I can find some loophole for getting it on my NNID, though, because I really don't like iOS devices and I want to play it with something I'd actually take with me on-the-go.
