1. Goals
The goals of "A-I-U-E-O" is as follows:
1) Introduce new students to the Japanese language
2) Encourage discussions in Japanese
3) Provide both online and textual study materials
4) Promote a open-minded, casual atmosphere that is open to all levels of Japanese study.
5) Recruit Staff members who are willing to tutor, assist, and, to an extent, provide lesson plans for members to follow.
2. Rules
Here are some house rules to follow:
1) Never, never, never ridicule one's skill in the Japanese language. This is a place to study and learn. Therefore, bashing of anyone's skill level is strictly prohibited. A warning will be given and a notice to one of the moderators. Repeated Offenders will be notified by the PokeBeach staff and further punishment will be looked into.
2) As there are members of different skill levels, please follow this format when typing in Japanese:
- When typing while using kanji, please provide hurigana underneath the kanji followed by romanized Japanese.
- When typing in hurigana/katakana only, please provide romanized Japanese
- Lastly, please provide a translation of what you said. However, it is not a requirement.
Ex. 私はアメリカ人です。
わたしはアメリカじんです。
Watashi wa Amerika jin desu.
I am American.
3) If you want to provide a guide/lesson plan/grammar points/etc but not a staff member, please contact me or one of the other staff members.
4) If you are new to the group, please provide a jikoshoukai or a self-introduction. It can be however long you want it to be. However, please say whatever you are comfortable with. Even a "[your name] desu" is fine.
5) Along with the sides of Rule 1, please be respectful of others. Learning a new language is both hard and scary. If someone makes a silly mistake, please do not lash out at them.
