Hello my name is Aaron and I made this team, for the most part back in Gen5, or at least I got the foundation of this team going. I never can seem to finish it, or I over complicated the team making part so much that I just give up at a certain point. I would appreciate any help in rounding out my team. If you think of a critique i have not thought of by all means place it down. I only ask that you be constructive with it so i can work on fixing that aspect rather than you just saying "It is you're, not your, gah" This is for the most part my in game team. A few moves on the Pokemon I no longer have after the trade over from gen 5. I could always just breed them in five and send them over though. Please take a look at my team, I have almost given it up on finishing it past more then what I already have.
Tyranitar
@ Assault Vest or Tyranitarite
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge/ Rock Slide
- Earthquake/Ice Punch/ Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Crunch
Tyranitar has been my favorite Pokemon from Gen II on. I really like his play style, i also Love the dark typing, my second favorite behind ghost. As far as team comp goes, this is the only Pokemon that has to be on the team. The rest can be changed around however is best. The 252hp and 252 attack, gives Tyranitar a hefty HP will not inhibiting him from being able to kill threats. Many AV-Tars run a bulkier spread, some with mixed sets too. I have tried those sets, but they lack the raw power that Adamanet 252 attack Tyranitar has. The longer Tyranitar is out the more there is a danger to him being killed by a stray fighting Pokemon or a priority move. I am fairly set on the build for Tyranitar, I dont want to run a set up Dragon Dance, I am not particularity fond of his mixed sets, and the full tank set are just silly. When a Pokemon takes x4 damage from one of the most common move types in the meta it becomes hard to tank effectively. The choice of items just becomes really wither or not i am running Gengar-Mega. If i am running Mega-Gengar then Assault Vest is the item to use. I am a little unsure on Earthquake vs Ice Punch they have their advantages and disadvantages. Killing Landorus on the switch, or being able to kill Bisharp and Heatran. Sometimes i switch to Rock slide over Stone edge. The power gap is pretty huge without, even if you do not factor in the Crits obtained by stone edge, but Stone edge is the most frustrating move in all of Pokemon, never working on the crucial kills when you need it, but when something comes out at 1hp and you could kill it with any move at all it will not miss. I have to protest the 80% accuracy rate they gave the move, it seems closer to 65%.
Excadrill
@ Life Orb/ Air Balloon/ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush/ Mold Breaker
EVs: 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
- Iron Head/Sword Dance/X-Scissor
Excadrill is simply amazing on my team. Everyone on my Pokemon team all but requires entry hazard clearings. With Excadrill not only do i get the best rapid spinner sense the start of the game, i get a good sweeper, and a good wall breaker. I run a little bit of health on him so he can better swap in once entry hazards have been lain. In all reality the only thing faster then Excadrill with 180ev Speed in a Sandstorm is one with 184. He has a few weaknesses that are shared with Tyranitar however such as Landorus, Terrikon and Garchomp. The last move is a bit hard to narrow down, on one hand Iron head hits Fairys hard, like stupid hard. Sword dance turns Excadrill into a Pokelord, but five turns is not alot to get that done in. X-Scissor may look silly compared to the other two, but i run into a lot of Venasaur and Slowbro, trying to wall me. It helps a good bit for me. Also helps to be able to kill Terrakion and DD MegaTars.I have not seen or tried any bulky sets this gen, I don't even know if it would fit on the team or not. Excadrill is a monster either way, blinding speed in sand, bit harder to keep it up, but do able, clear entry hazards and does well against those that set it up.
Rotom-Wash
@ Leftovers/Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 180 SpA / 76 SpD
Modest Nature
- Will-O-Wisp/Trick
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
With Excadrill and Tyranitar on a team together it is only common sense that i use Rotom-W as well. He has great offensive and defensive capabilities on my Pokemon team. With his ability I am able to successfully switch him in on any ground based move and hit them hard on the next turn with stab Hydro Pump. Will-O-Wisp is for Rotom when he is running Leftovers, and Choice Specs is for trick. Rotom-W is able to take on some key counters to the rest of my team. Rotom-W with good prediciton is able to win against Landorus-T, opposing Excadrills, opposing Talonflame(not that the rest of my team cant, just that there are a whole bunch recently). He also holds his own against many current meta favorites, like both Charizards and Heatran. Will-O-Wisp is amazing at stopping physical threats on the opponents side, it does however require a good bit of prediction against teams running Heatran or Chandalure. The Ev spread is just a personal favorite of mine. I tried a very large amount of combos before i got to this build. It is the exact amount of bulk and power I wanted out of Rotom-W.
Talonflame
@ Leftovers/ Life Orb
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Atk / 176 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Roost/ Tail wind
- U-turn
If i have Tyranitar, Excadrill and Rotom-W on a team together I have to have Talonflame with them. The Life Orb vs Leftovers is surprisingly a hard choice for me to make. I tried leftovers on this set of Talonflame and realized he still had a good bit of power, just now he was able to negate some of that recoil damage that i ve grown to hate. Life Orb is good and solid for him too, allowing me to kill most of the Pokemon needed in One shot. With U-Turn Talonflame is able to bounce back with Rotom-W( who takes care of most of talonflames counters easily). I have tried useing Tail Wind in my Pokemon party with good results, but I think the build I made for Talonflame is better suited to Roost. I do not know the exact health numbers to keep the damage from Stealth rock at its lowest, i just tried to run a little extra in health so that Talonflame would have an easier time of switching in on neutral damaging moves. Talonflame is a solid counter to the majority of things that pose a threat to Tyranitar. Conkeldurr takes a few hits, but he handily takes care of Venasaur, Scizor, and Mega Pinser. He does kind of compound my weakness to bulky ground/waters though, so i am not sure about keeping him in.
Gengar
@ Gengarite
alignAbility: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature:Timid
- Destiny Bond
- Focus Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Taunt
Gengar was my favorite Pokemon in Gen 1, after Tyranitar came out Gengar has been my second favorite Pokemon. Lucky I liked Pokemon that Game freak also liked, because they keep giving them boost along the way. MegaGengar is simply cheap, broken, and Op, all assuming you predict correctly. Gengar stays relatively safe on my team. Rotom-W and Talonflame are able to bring out Gengar a little more safely then would otherwise be allowed. Also most of the checks to Gengar are heavily beaten on by Tyranitar and Excadrill. I use Gengar mostly as a get out of jail free card. If something is a hard check/counter to the rest of my team or If someone has set up to many sword dances or whatever I can send Gengar out to clear the supped up mon out of the fight. That is not all MegaGengar is good at though, he can one-two shot every non boosted fairy in the meta. The ability for him to be able to Sludge Bomb and kill all fairy , aside from Mawile of course, is very valuable. A taunt user is always a nice thing to add as well. Also Gengar helps me deal with grass types a bit better, there are not currently a lot of strong grass types that are not also poison but it is a nice coverage to have. He is offensive stats are amazing, very fast and packs a lot of power behind it. Gengar does have a lot of flaws that come with him though, weakness to dark, psychic, and after his mega evolve ground. Based on the other typing in my party ground weakness is not a super nice thing to add on. Also Gengar is incredibly frail, one wrong prediction and hes very likely to die. Also the Pokemon you bring him out on is likely to go back to the trainer and you get something you had no interest in killing. Possibly the biggest complaint i have of Gengar is how many teams run Sucker Punch. You can always destiny bond before hand, or switch but if you misread the fight at all Gengar will die with one hit.
The Sixth Member
I am thinking that my team could do with a Pokemon with more bulk. Also being able to set up stealth rocks or spikes would be a plus. I have tried numerous Pokemon in the sixth slot of the past year and i just either didn't think they meshed well or just couldn't tell if i wasn't used to the Pokemon yet or it just didn't fit in the party. Had a hard time telling what was a problem with the team, me or just the Pokemon in the sixth slot.
Recently I have had good all around success with Slowbro, physically defensive status, and Ammongus physical defensive, status, and hazing. Both of their regine ability worked wonders with my team constantly bouncing in and out, However, Slowbro greater amplified a weakness to grass type moves and I think is meant more for stall teams. Ammongus, on the other hand had amazing utility but was rather weak at tanking all around. Ammongus can get a stun spore out quick though, which is always nice.
A brief summary of some of the others i have tried are, Latios Life orb sweeper, Conkeldurr with AV and the other set with bulk up. I have used Heatran Special defensive stealth rock. I used to use Garchomp choice scarf/ and lead stealth rock, to many weakness shared in the team for him though. Landorous was nice-ish, but he lacked the bulk i was looking for to make up for the rest of the team. I had alright success with Spatk sweeper Greninja, but it added more weakness to the mix.
Any help is greatly encouraged and appreciated. I know it was a long bit to read, but I really want my team to work out perfectly I just can not seem to get that last little bit done.
