No fair, legendaries don't count. Besides, on its first battle, Hydreigon obviously won.

Cobalion has the same base stats as Hydreigon, so theoretically Hydreigon is just as much of a legendary as Cobalion. But Hydreigon was still slain, correct?

Not "slain" but you have to remember that Hydreigon battled and won against another Pokemon before facing Cobalion.

Only after it battled another Pokemon. It wasn't a fair match. So, not in that regard.

you're just claiming dragons cannot be slain, hinting that they're invincible
