GameStop to Sell “Destined Rivals” Products for Up to 33% Above MSRP

Down here in Australia, GameStop trades under a different brand and had black/white booster bundles for pre sale at 18% above the recommended price. Sadly I knew it was the only way to secure the goods and I paid it.. 😔

Here in Canada, some local game stores that hosted Destined Rivals prereleases are selling the set at the following prices (all in CAD):

LGS 1
  • Booster box $349.95
  • ETB $139.95
  • Booster Bundle $69.95
  • Sleeved Booster packs $13.95
  • Booster pack $12.95
LGS 2
  • Booster box $299.99
  • ETB $139.99
  • Booster Bundle $74.99
  • Sleeved Booster Packs $9.99
Online Retailer Pre-Orders
  • ETB $129.95
  • Booster Box $329.95-$349.95
  • Sleeved Booster Packs $10.95

At this point, Pokémon won't make it to their 30th Anniversary.

Unfortunately, the only way to stop the current problems of the card game, from scalpers to the supply chain to Nintendo/Pokémon themselves, is to stop buying the product.
Maybe consider touching some grass, it's good for you

I think it's interesting over here in the UK the prerelease prices are actually incredibly cheap for singles, except from the Mewtwo, everything else is already around the £100 mark, when usually stuff like the lilliies clefairy was around £250 at this point

Scalpers won't pay a mark up if they can get it for MSRP from Walmart
So I am either paying a mark up from scalpers who buy it for msrp at wal mart or the same price at game stop who would be making profit selling it at msrp. I don't back scalpers scalping but they are at least putting in work for their hustle, game stop is profiting off of their efforts by charging that much.

You should report on how much distributors are charging, we couldn't run any standard prizing for tournaments for Journey Together cause multiple distributors wanted $150-$160 for the current set and $60 per elite trainer box. It is robbery
Etb for 60 isn't crazy. It's 59 on pokemoncenter. But that's for all scarlet and violet etb.

But don't you get a gamestop promo though?

You won't be buying it from scalpers. Also thr scalpers isn't selling it for such low markup

People in this thread commenting like scalpers won't just literally raise their prices accordingly following this price hike to keep the same or better profit margins LOL

I havent gotten new product in so long and Im very sad about it, I just wanted a little serotonin hit with how stressful school is

I'm sorry, but that math ain't mathing my guy.
Booster Pack: less than $2 more
Build and Battle: less than $4 more
3 Pack blister: $5 more

The only two I see as a problem and counteract my claim are booster bundles and Booster Boxes, but the ones above are by definition, a few dollars more. I only open a few packs however, so I defintetly can see the difference for people who want to open more. Besides, it dwindles out the herd for my town (They couldn't even name 3 obscure pokemon besides the eeveelutions and big three).

Publicly traded company raises prices on an inelastic product. Why are we shocked? If you don’t like it, why not just switch to buying singles? It’s better pull rates than the gamble of opening packs for collectors and singles makes playing the game much more affordable.
