I've decided to start playing competitive pokemon again, used to travel and play a lot as a kid and thought now that I have money I could start again.

What do I play?

I'm in the same boat as you, just started playing pokemon competitively again a few months ago. My suggestion would be pick up something cheap like a Distilled Blast Gyarados deck and move into something like Pikarom or Green's Reshizard. All 3 decks are fairly straight forward and alot of fun to play.

My question to both of you new guys:

What format are you shooting for: Standard, Expanded, or both?

Money is no issue. Green's Charizard is looking like the plan right now.

Archie's is always good in Expanded. It hits numbers, especially with MewMew GX combined with Kingdra in the discard. Once you get it rolling it mows through most things from my experience. It covers quite a few weaknesses as well, as Onix takes out Dark decks and Pikarom, etc. Here's what I'm running right now, it probably needs some tweaking though:

Looks great! Way different than the Archie's I used to play, but I love it!

It's a lot of fun, especially with the advent of MewMew GX. It really makes the deck hit a LOT harder than it used to, since you can use Kingdra's Hydro Pump that much easier. Starting out with a bad hand happens though, and it's pretty rough if you do, but get things going and this deck mows through most things like crazy.
