PokéBeach Create-a-Character

Hello, beachgoers, and welcome to the first installment of the Original Character Contest. Inspired by your creativity in both PokéPoetry! and the Convicted series in Forum Games, we’ve decided to introduce a new contest about creating your own original character. What does that mean? The process is fairly straightforward, but I’ll link some examples at the very end of the thread.

Since this is our first character contest, we’ll keep it simple and allow you to create any noncanon trainer with a limited amount of Pokémon. The region, background, etc. are all up to you. Also, keep reading to find out the prize for winning this contest!
I. Signups: Similar to the poetry contest, you’ll make a reservation post that gives us the bare essentials. This is to show that you’ve put some thought into your entry and have read the rules.

Unlike past contests, though, signups will be open throughout the entire process. While you must have your final product ready by the deadline for voting, you are not limited to a seven-day window and are free to join even the day before voting begins (so long as you complete the requirements).

II. Content: In this contest, you’ll be creating some sort of Pokémon trainer. Whether you explore canon occupations like gym leaders or create brand new roles in a made up government/organization, you are free to explore so long as you describe it. Your trainer is allowed to have one to three Pokémon in possession, and each of those Pokémon should have thorough backstories, personalities, movesets, etc. In your initial post, you’re only required (and encouraged) to write a one-sentence logline on your plans. If you write it too early, your post may be drowned in others’.

  • Trainers: For trainers, you’ll be expected to provide the gender (any expression welcome), age and physical description--the latter including whatever you feel necessary to add: race, eye / hair color, clothing, accessories, etc. Other physical details are encouraged (such as how someone wears a hat or tries to smile) as well. After the initial post, a more detailed (300 word+) backstory is required by the end so we all know what your character has gone through and where they may be going.

For example, if you’re writing about the first gym leader in Alola, we need to know how that person got to the position and what is going on in the region. What struggles are they going through, what choices do they have to make?

  • Pokémon: Just like with trainers, we want to know how those Pokémon got involved with the story. If a Pokémon has unique physical characteristics (a scar, a pattern), please include them! We also want to know that Pokémon’s ability, nature, moveset, how it was caught/added, etc. If your Pokémon can evolve, will it? What’s stopping it? What’s its backstory, and what would its growth look like?
Not all of this is required in the reservation post, but we do want you to think about it! The formatting is explained below.

III. Restrictions: Please remember Creative Works’ rules against plagiarism of content. Any plagiarized entries will be disqualified and consequences may arise. Also, don’t rewrite an already-existing character in the Pokémon universe. Your character cannot be Sinnoh Champion Cynthia, but you can talk about her daughter’s struggles to live up to her mother’s standards.

There is no required word count for the reservation post, and it is perfectly fine to write phrases or a single sentence for the fields. For the final version, we ask for 300+ words for the trainer (which is a couple paragraphs), and 100+ words for each Pokémon. If you only have one or two Pokémon, the rule remains the same, however lengthening the descriptions may be to your benefit.

IV. Formatting:

For reservation post:
Trainer Name, Gender, Age:
Physical Description:
Possible Backstory:
#Only one or two sentences for now

Pokémon acquired: #List up to three Pokémon here

Remember you only need a few words’ description for most of the fields, and just a sentence or two in the backstory. You’ll develop all that for the final product, which will be due in two weeks.

For final post:
Trainer Name, Gender, Age:
Physical Description:
Hometown/region:

V. Prize: That’s right, this Creative Works contest comes with a prize for the highest-voted character: our very own @scattered mind has offered his creative services to draw the chosen trainer and Pokémon! His drawing will be posted after the voting process is over, so be on the lookout for his great work.

VI. Voting: Unlike the PokéPoetry! Contest, you can like every submission if you want! Feel free to encourage and discuss everything at any point in the competition because we will be using an outside voting platform (YouPoll) to do official voting. This keeps the process more private. You are, of course, also allowed to DM me if you don’t feel comfortable.

VII. Dates:

5/16: Signups begin, entries allowed at any time. Character discussion is encouraged throughout process.

6/3 6/6: Entries are due, I will make a post that compiles all of the submissions and provide a link for the voting process, which will remain anonymous.

6/7 6/10: Voting is over, winner is announced, @scattered mind will begin drawing the winner!

Here’s an example post I made for the first post:

Trainer Name, Gender, Age: Jeff, male, 31
Physical Description: little pudgy, pale, blue eyes, faded (and thinning) red hair and a fading orange scruff. Carries a pitchfork everywhere he goes
Possible Backstory: Parents too wrapped up in their research, Jeff moves out as an adult and becomes a professional race horse breeder.

Pokémon acquired: Rapidash, Blitzle, Mudbray

And here’s an example for the final product (please note the trainer section is nearly double the minimum, I just got excited):

Trainer Name, Gender, Age: Jeff, male, 31
Physical Description: little pudgy, pale, blue eyes, faded (and thinning) red hair and a fading orange scruff. Carries a pitchfork everywhere he goes
Hometown/region: From Jubilife, Sinnoh, but now lives in the outskirts of Solaceon Town
Occupation: Farmer, racehorse breeder
Backstory: Jeff was born an only child to a wealthy “old money” family of entrepreneurs in Jubilife City, and though he was always exposed to the hustle-bustle of business life, he never embraced it. The crime rate in the city meant he could never go out alone. And since his parents had been hired on to help create the Pokétch’s early designs, young Jeff was forced to be quiet and alone for much of his childhood.

Being in the big city, Jeff never got the chance to explore the region--he remembered watching a young boy on TV that defeated Sinnoh’s legendary Pokémon at Spear Pillar and thwarted Team Galactic once and for all. He cheered for that same kid to beat Cynthia just days later. The whole time, though, Jeff kept to himself in an always empty house. Living well in urban life also singled him out among the other children, many of which lived in suburbs or outside the city. There were few Pokémon that could stand the levels of pollution in the Jubilife skyline.

He had no one but his TV, and after flipping through the channels he stumbled upon the coveted horse races that took the region by storm. There were three categories: Rapidash, Zebstrika, and a mixed competition. Jeff watched a beautiful shiny Rapidash win the Sinnoh cup when he was twenty-one, and since then he began collecting racing memorabilia and cheering for the horse Pokémon.

In an unlikely explosion, both of his parents passed away just before his twenty-third birthday, and Jeff was left completely alone in the big city. Luckily, his inheritance was very generous, so he decided to go to Oreburgh City and find a Pokémon to challenge Gym Leader Roark. In the route above, he was very surprised to learn you could catch a Ponyta. He took a Fast Ball out of his bag and nabbed her as quickly as he could. He and his new companion “Gallop” traveled the region for the next couple years.

Though they weren’t the greatest at battling (Jeff only ever won four badges), Jeff realized Gallop had the best qualities as a race horse. He settled down at a plot outside Solaceon Town at the age of twenty-six and has become a modest farmer and horse breeder with his inheritance savings. Several farm hands that control the Pokémon to maintain the farm, and he has a girlfriend that loves to help out and support his racehorse dream. In the five years since, Gallop won three first-place finishers and several other high-ranked awards as a Ponyta and made the qualifiers for the world cup after recently evolving into a Rapidash. Jeff has expanded his Pokémon to include a few more horse breeds, but right now he’s still working with his trusty partner.

Jeff’s main problem is his hesitance; just like as a child, he had a tendency to close himself off and stay still for too long. Losses hurt him dearly, and he often finds himself drinking too much and making interpersonal mistakes. He also tends to think straight-on with uncreative, yet reliable ways, and sometimes surprise techniques in horse racing would catch him by surprise.

Pokémon 1: “Gallop” the Rapidash (female)
Pokéball: Fast ball
Caught: Eight years ago, Jeff caught his first Ponyta at Sinnoh route 207
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Jolly
Learnset: Agility, Flare Blitz, High Horsepower, Flame Charge
Backstory: Gallop is a racehorse through and through. She was born somewhere near route 207 with the rare egg move “High Horsepower,” which may suggest a Mudsdale in her bloodline somewhere. As Jeff’s first and only Pokémon for the longest time, the two struggled to defeat gym leaders like Crasher Wake, however her speed meant she could help him live his dream as a breeder. Gallop truly enjoys racing and employs moves like Agility and Flame Charge to give herself an edge against the competition. She has become the most popular betting horse recently due to her performance as a Ponyta and new potential as a Rapidash. Gallop’s focus is a little too narrow and she sometimes forgets to stay aware of her surroundings, and trick moves or combos from nowhere have at times cost her first place. Regardless, she finds racing gives her purpose and hopes to one day win the Pokémon racehorse world cup.

Pokémon 2: “Bolt” the Blitzle (male)
Pokéball: Quick Ball
Caught: One year ago, Jeff was given a Blitzle egg to raise after Gallop won the Sinnoh Regionals
Ability: Motor Drive
Nature: Naive
Learnset: Quick Attack, Charge, Discharge, Agility
Backstory: Bolt hatched from an egg that was gifted as the first-place award. He is very all-over-the-place and gets himself into trouble daily around the farm, usually by falling into things. Jeff started teaching him the basics of racing, but Bolt lacks the attention span to properly contend. He cannot control his electricity and often shocks Jeff with his mane, but he loves his trainer and wants to succeed like Gallop has--she’s almost like a big sister. Bolt is very affectionate and requires much praise for when he does do something right, because he’s always moving to the next task without really understanding what to do. He should one day be a very competitive Zebstrika...if he can ever focus.

Pokémon 3: “Judd” the Mudbray (male)
Pokéball: Heavy Ball
Caught: Two months ago at route 210
Nature: Careful
Learnset: Rototiller, Double Kick, High Horsepower, Stomp
Backstory: Jeff’s farm grows with every season, especially after winning prize money from the horse races, and he found himself needing more help around the farm. The ranchers and cowgirls that were there often dealt with Tauros and Miltank, and there were a few Grass-type Pokémon owned that could help with crops, but he needed a reliable Pokémon to help with the soil. He found a stray Mudbray nearby and realized it was the perfect solution, and so Judd was caught very recently. Judd likes to eat things, and Jeff continuously has him on watch to prevent him from eating the crops. Sometimes, Judd bangs his body against automobiles and buildings to see how durable it is, because he dreams of becoming a Mudsdale and roaming the world. He enjoys helping Jeff, though, because he has direction, but he still wants that journey Gallop got years earlier.

I hope you all enjoy a different approach to the creation process in this contest! After writing my entry I definitely feel like writing a short story about Jeff sometime. Also I made the banner.

I'm super excited for the entries so far! Too bad they aren't interacting; I'd love to see Anna Razzo deal with a Psychic-type gym leader :p

Pokémon acquired: Wingull, Farfetch'd, Shroomish

I’ll sign up.

Trainer Name, Gender, Age: Chekhov, Male, Age 45
Physical Description: Tall and thin. Light tan skin. Brown eye. Orange and gray hair worn in a comb over. A mid chest length grey beard.
Possible Backstory: Chekhov was an odd kid. He would often become silent when people talked about the latest Pokémon Champion and Pokémon Contests. He liked to write short stories and poems about the Mythical Pokémon and their connection to the world. When he came of age to be a Pokémon Trainer, he instead went into the wilds by himself without seeing the professor and obtaining a starter Pokémon. He came face to face with a wild Fletchling, but rather than trying to capture it, Chekhov fed it a berry. The two became friends instantly. He traveled the world with his Fletchling, seeking to explore the world rather than to seek to be at the top of the Pokémon League. As he traveled throughout Kalos he watched other trainers battle and came to despise his fellow human beings who trained their Pokémon to battle. He vowed to one day put an end to this barbaric practice. He wouldn’t seek to battle other Pokémon, he would seek to battle humanity and the status quo. Chekhov became a revolutionary thinker who wanted to overthrow the government of the Pokémon World to create a world where humanity and Pokémon could live in harmony without Pokémon trainers and Pokémon battles, as true equals. When a plot to incite a riot in Kalos in order was preemptively shut down, Chekhov was put into prison. In his last move of freedom, he encouraged his friend, Talonflame, the Fletchling that he first met those years ago, to go find a family. Talonflame did so, but would come see Chekhov every day, visiting him and giving him berries just as Chekhov gave Fletchling those years ago forging their friendship. Afterwards, Chekhov reflected on his life and his actions and came to the conclusion that the only way to truly create change is through peace. Now Chekhov lives in a community with similar ideas about living in harmony with Pokémon where PokéBalls and all battling and leveling up items are banned. People live on a strict diet of berries, apricots, and water. Now as a writer, Chekhov seeks to show through his writing why the world needs to change as he continues to live what he preaches with his best friend Talonflame.

Pokémon Befriended: Talonflame

So, in researching Kiloude City, I not only discovered that the Battle Chatelaines are the Frontier Brain equivalent, but also that their parents are dead. I didn't spend a lot of time in XY postgame. :/

Name/Gender/Age: Corinne Lapointe, Male, 13

Physical: Small and slight, with a shock of bright red hair, usually wearing a devilish grin and multiple bandaids.

Possible Backstory: Grew up in Kiloude City, where he became the class clown of the trainer school. All of his Pokémon have punny nicknames. His first Pokémon was a Sandshrew he received from his father. He later received a Bagon from his older cousin Evelyn. It is suspected that living in the shadow of his cousins, who had moved in with his parents after their own parents had passed, is part of what made him such a jokester. At some point, on a class field trip to Lumiose City, he wandered off onto Route 14 and caught a Shelmet. No, he doesn't know why his cousins speak the way they do.

Pokémon Acquired:
Sadshrew, the Sandshrew
Bacon, the Bagon
Shelfmet, the Shelmet

Oh, yeah, can I include an illustration as part of the physical description?

Yep, you're free to include any sort of supplementary information you wish!

There's still a whole week left until final entries are due (and I'll send a few more reminders later this week), but this is just a reminder that signups are still open through June 3rd as well! Don't be afraid to join last minute, as there is a voting period to discuss and showcase your works no matter how early/late you joined.

I'm looking forward to it! :)

Rip... I really want to do this, but I have exams over the next two weeks and I can't dedicate the time. I wish I had seen this sooner, but the end result would probably have been a drop anyway. Maybe next time!

This looks fun, I'll give it a go

Trainer Name, Gender, Age: Donna, age 27, female

Physical Description: Medium height, often wearing very glitzy outfits, shoulder length black hair

Possible Backstory: Always in awe at the amazing spectacles displayed in Pokemon Contests, she loved watching them, and living in Hearthome City, she'd often be found at the Contest Hall there. Having a natural talent for singing, she loved having Pokemon on stage with her who would create dazzling sights during her performances. Now she's gotten older, she often throws concerts for the public and in her spare time works with her Pokemon to make new ways she can impress her audiences.

Pokémon acquired: Espeon, Rotom, Roserade

Just a reminder that entries will be due this Monday (June 3rd)!! Remember that voting is going to be a separate system from the likes of our poetry contest, so you're encouraged to like threads and provide feedback/support/critique as you see fit to help foster some creativity!

You're also still free to even join the contest. If I'm being honest, my "example" entry took maybe an hour total.

Name/Gender/Age: Corinne Lapointe, male, 13
Physical Description: Small and slight, with a shock of bright red hair, and vibrant blue eyes. He’s usually wearing a devilish grin and multiple bandaids, as well as his signature shorts and hoodie.
dd8bl3g-a7272e06-fafb-435c-a282-1dc74cb5d5a7.png

Hometown/Region: Kiloude City, Kalos
Occupation: Class clown/seal designer
Backstory: Corinne was born in Kiloude City as the son of a rail worker named Jerome and his wife Michelle. He grew up in the shadow of his older cousins, who became the Battle Chatelaines. He was never able to live up to the standards of battling prowess and poise of them, and rather became the class clown, goofing off, and making wisecracks. When on his own, he would draw absurd stickfigure stories, which made very little sense At age 8, the pressure mounted further, as his cousins moved in to live with his family after their parents were killed. He tended to get along fairly well with the double battle specialist Evelyn, who was less imposing and demanding than her sisters, and the single battle specialist Nita, who had a similar penchant for getting into trouble.
His first Pokémon was a Sandshrew he received from his Jerome when he was 10, nicknamed Sadshrew because it amused him, and the two spent more time drawing and messing about than training or battling. This tended to get on Morgan and Dana’s nerves, since he’d often get in the way and interrupt their training with some sort of stunt. Nita, on the other hand would sometimes conspire to make the ensuing chaos worse, either by giving Corinne bad ideas to execute, or throwing her own Pokémon into the mix.
For Corinne’s 12th birthday, Jerome took the family on a trip to Hoenn to visit Michelle’s parents in Lavaridge Town (who were Corinne’s and the cousins’ shared grandparents). While there, the sisters took a trip to Meteor Falls, where Evelynn caught him a Bagon as a birthday present. Again, Corinne took the opportunity for a goofy nickname, Bacon. While in Lavaridge, he witnessed some battles at the gym, and for the first time saw the use of Poké Ball seals from a challenger there. This piqued his interest, and upon arriving back in Kalos, he started designing seals for his Pokémon and those of his friends, although at this time he had no way to make this a reality, his designs improved over time, becoming slick and polished over the next year.
On a field trip to Lumiose city, he used the remains of his birthday money from his 13th birthday to buy a small pack of supplies for making seals from a Sinnoh import store. As a part of the field trip, the class went up to look at the ecosystems of the swampy areas of Route 14, he and a couple of classmates decided to go off and investigate the rumours they had heard of a haunted house on the route, once inside, the group were surprised when a Shelmet rolled off of a shelf it had been snoozing on and landed in front of them, waking up angrily. Bacon, being the impulsive Pokémon she was, charged the Shelmet before anyone else could react, and weakened it enough that once Corinne had come to his senses, he was able to catch it as his third Pokémon.
Upon returning to Kiloude City after this adventure, he began working on the seals for real this time, making a set for his Pokémon, as well as for Evelyn’s main team.

Pokémon 1: Sadshrew, the Sandshrew (male)
Poké Ball: Poké Ball, has since had a crying face emoji seal added
Caught: A gift given to him 3 years ago by his father Jerome, the son of Jerome's Sandslash, Bethany.
Ability: Sand Veil
Nature: Timid
Learnset: Crush Claw, Magnitude, Poison Sting, Sand Attack
Backstory: Sadshrew is an introverted Pokémon, and will typically hide behind Corinne when around new people, potentially scaling him, which is the reason behind some (but not all) of the bandaids on Corinne’s legs. In particularly overwhelming situations, he will hide in Corinne’s backpack, or manually return to his Poké Ball. Sadshrew is comfortable with only a small few people, specifically Corinne, Jerome, Michelle and Evelyn. He tolerates, but mistrusts Nita, as she’s gotten him into several scrapes he’d rather not have been in. He took quite some time to get used to Bacon, and nowadays spends a lot of time chilling with Shelfmet while Bacon and Corinne are getting into trouble.

Pokémon 2: Bacon, the Bagon (female)
Poké Ball: Ultra Ball with a bacon seal
Caught: A birthday gift from his older cousin Evelyn, who caught it while visiting family in Hoenn.
Ability: Rock Head
Nature: Rash
Learnset: Headbutt, Dragonbreath, Headbutt, Roar
Backstory: Bacon served to only increase Corinne’s antics when she was added to the team. Her rash and impulsive nature gets her into trouble with those around her, often rushing into situations without any thought. Evelyn spends just about as much time trying to keep her in check as Corinne does, and even so, the walls have suffered damage from Bacon’s steel-hard head. Out of Corinne’s Pokémon, Bacon spends the most time in her Poké Ball, largely in time-out, however, she is also Corinne’s most competent battler, and if Corinne weren’t in the shadow of his cousins, Bacon could take him quite far in the battling scene.

Pokémon 3: Shelfmet, the Shelmet (male)
Poké Ball: Poké Ball with a lance seal
Caught: a few months ago at route 14 on a school trip.
Ability: Shell Armor
Nature: Lax
Learnset: Struggle Bug, Yawn, Bide, Rest
Backstory: Shelfmet seemed to grow into his name, finding high places around the house to disappear into and doze off, notably shelves. Most of the time, he can’t be bothered actually doing anything, and much to the rest of the family’s dismay, Corinne doesn’t seem to have any plans to break him out of this behaviour. Members of the household have learned to be wary of the possibility of sleeping Shelfmet falling from his perch and have developed the habit of looking up wherever they might be going throughout the house. After a few incidents of damaged furniture, Corinne has been warned to keep Shelfmet from sleeping outside his room, it doesn’t always work, but it has reduced incidents.

Probably the final iteration, unless inspiration strikes.

Hello everyone, I had the original due date for the final draft set to June 3rd, which is today. However, since I'm a terrible host I had some unforeseen circumstances arise this weekend and I couldn't spam remind everyone to post over the weekend, I'm going to admit defeat extend the writing period a few more days to this Thursday, June 6th unless anyone objects.

Again, sorry for the unexpected and inconsistent activity the past couple days, but we are set to wrap up the writing for later this week.

Just a reminder I'll be finding a good polling site for voting, so you're free to like, comment, question, etc. any work without pause or concern.

Thanks!

Name/Gender/Age: Melody Larson, Female, Age 21
Physical Despcription: A tall, slender young woman (about 6'3"), with a deep, rich, chocolate brown hair color; done in a tomboyish bob.
Hometown, Region: Goldenrod City, Johto
Occupation: Pokémon Trainer and Coordinator
Backstory: Melody was born the eldest daughter of Michael and Paula Larson. Michael was a former Pokemon Trainer, who gave up his dream to become a world-class Pokemon Trainer upon the birth of his daughter. Paula also had dreams, of being a world champion Pokemon Coordinator, but saldy; also never got to achieve her dreams. Growing up, Melody thought she was a mistake, that her being born ruined both her parents' lives. Despite, every time it was mentioned, they vehemently denied that. As such, Melody seeked, and sought, companionship from her grandmother (Paula's mother). Her grandparents acted like a second pair of parents for her and nurtured her growing up. Her grandfather would often put her to sleep reading fairytales like Snow White and the Seven Diglett or Sleeping Beautifly. As such, she felt a strong connection to the Fairy type and Fairy Pokémon in general.

When Melody became 10 years old, she sought to become a Pokemon Trainer, but got injured in an accident at her grandparents' farm. She fractured her knee and spent the next 2 years in painful rehabilitation. Melody had a deep cut that left a pretty mighty scar around the kneecap of her right knee. As such, she always wears jeans, or pants to avoid people looking at, and gawking at, her scar. The rehab strengthened her resolve, and lit the competitive fire deep within her. When Melody turned 13, she was able to apply for her Trainer's License. It took her two tries to do so, because she wasn't expecting to be destroyed in the battle competition. The second time was the charm though, and 3 years and 1 week after she orginally announced her desire to be a Trainer, her journey officially began.

Since she was far away from New Bark Town, and her starter; she was given a Dunsparce from her grandmother. It was a gift specifically for her when she was originally set to start her journey 3 years ago, but due to the injury, the Dunsparce had to be sent to an unknown individual as to avoid any suspicion from Melody. The Dunsparce had spent the last 3 years in training with this unknown individual, and as such was extremely powerful right out of the gate. The Poke Ball containing her new partner had been taken care of pristinely by whoever was looking over it, almost like it was just used to catch it just minutes or so before.

Her second Pokémon was a Popplio, and was obtained by her from Professor Oak. Oak had heard of Melody's success throughout the Johto region and decided to give her a gift. Calling his cousin in Alola, Samson Oak, the two exchanged a string of dialogue that wound up giving Melody her gift Pokémon. Popplio quickly asserted her dominance and grew up and quickly to become Melody's strongest Pokémon. Her Primarina is also an oddity. It was normal sized throughout it's life; until it evolved into Primarina, where it became 2 feet longer than it should normally be. While Primarina are normally 5'11", Melody's Primarina tips the scales at 7'11" and about 200lbs. She felt a kinship with her giant Primarina, she was a tall, kind of lanky young woman, while her Primarina is a giant compared to the rest of her species.

Her third and final Pokémon was a Swablu she caught outside of Blackthorn City in Johto. She had heard on the radio that the Pokémon was swarming on Route 45, which is just to the immediate south of the town. She eagerly raced off towards the route, as she was in Blackthorn training for her 8th Johto Gym Badge. Her dream Pokémon was to own a Mega Altaria, as she had a life-size plush of one growing up, and had dreams of curling up with a real Mega Altaria of her own. She loved the fluffy look it gave off and knew she wanted one for herself. She already had a Mega Ring and an Altarianite, given to her as gifts by Lance for helping him out with subduing an enranged Mamoswine in Ice Cave. She had a little difficulty in snagging her own Swablu, she managed to reclaim one after accidentally knocking out the first one. She didn't know it at the time, but her luck gave her a shiny Swablu. She heard, and knew about shiny Pokémon before, after all; she grew up with a shiny Growlithe. But she never thought she'd have own of her own. She had also gotten lucky with the nature of her shiny, as it was the absolute best it could be. Stats were a little all over the place, but considering she got lucky twice over, she wasn't going to complain about being lucky 2 times out of 3.

To appease her parents, she decided to follow both of their dreams; to become both an amazing Trainer and Coordinator, and to make both her parents proud. Little did she know; they were already proud of her, just for even thinking about following their dreams. Her beleaguered relationship with her parents had been restored. She was no longer the "embarrassing mistake" she thought she was growing up. She had the full trust and support of her parents again, and that's all she ever could have asked for.

__________

Pokémon #1: "Wondersparce" the Dunsparce (Male)
Poké Ball: Poké Ball
Caught: Caught by her grandmother, as a gift for her 10th birthday
Ability: Serene Grace
Nature: Careful
Moveset: Coil, Roost, Secret Power, Poison Jab
Backstory: Dunsparce was originally caught to serve as Melody's starting Pokémon, but the injury she suffered derailed her dreams by three years. Trained and groomed by a mysterious person, it became the workhorse of her team as she was just starting out. Very friendly with people once he gets to know them, but is careful and cautious to a T when meeting strangers. Nicknamed Wondersparce because of his Ability, Serene Grace, giving a noticeable improvement in the chance of landing additional effects from his attacks.

Pokémon #2: "Primendous" the Primarina (Female)
Poké Ball: Poké Ball
Caught: By Samson Oak, given to Melody via Professor Oak
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Modest
Moveset: Psychic, Scald, Ice Beam, Moonblast
Backstory: An absolute giant of a Primarina; 2 feet longer than normal. She is absolutely proud of her size, as she enjoys the subtle intimidation she gives off due to her unnaturally larger size. Both Oaks were stumped as to why the unnatural growth spurt occurred when it reached it's final stage and not any time else. Often a giant machine of destruction, her moveset is built in a way to maximize potential victories with a very diverse moveset. She was given the item, Expert Belt, to add more damage to SE attacks. Originally had the Choice Specs, but the constant diversity of her opponents Pokémon caused her to be in situations she didn't want to be in. Melody feels a deep connection with her gigantic Pokémon, as she is gigantic as well, at least compared to her family.

Pokémon #3: "Goldenrod" the Shiny Altaria (Male)
Poké Ball: Poké Ball
Caught: Route 45, outside Blackthorn City, Johto
Ability: Natural Cure (Pixilate upon Mega Evolution)
Nature: Timid
Moveset: Cotton Guard, Hyper Voice, Flamethrower, Roost
Backstory: A childhood dream fueled her desire for this Pokémon. While he can hold his own without Mega Evolving, she can't help herself, and wants to see his giant, fluffy Mega Evolution form more and more. She got a shiny on her second encounter, with the best Nature. His stats are a little on the weaker side, but she pays it no mind. She was just happy to have her dream Pokémon on her team. While Mega Evolution is usually feared by Trainer and Pokémon alike her Altaria calms down a bit when it Mega Evolves, preferring to quickly end fights so the battle can end sooner. Often likes to compete against Melody's massive Primarina in singing contests, but is no match for the enormous Water-type Pokémon.

Trainer Name, Gender, Age: Flynn Hesharnaes, Male, Age 22
Physical Description: Tall, very light skin, with purple eyes. Blonde hair, parted to the side with a purple streak.
Hometown/Region: Is always traveling, was born in Lavender Town, Kanto.
Occupation: Psychic Pokémon Trainer, trying to become a Gym Leader
Backstory: Flynn was born to Bill and Lynn Hesharnaes in Lavender Town. They never dreamed of becoming Trainers, but were very fond of Psychic Pokémon. They started a foundation to support Starmie, who’s wild population was decreased by a lot. Their dream was to double the amount of Starmie in the wild but this dream perished when Flynn was born. They were still able to add 1/10 of the current wild population, but that was before they disappeared on Flynn’s third birthday.

They had an Abra, who would love to play with Flynn as a little kid, but was very shy, and would barely make himself shown to Bill and Lynn. But when the couple disappeared, the PSI Pokémon took the lead. He was able to gather enough energy to transport to a cave in Sinnoh. After a battle with Azelf and Mespirit, Uxie needed a place to rest. She entered a cave on the mountainside, where Uxie found Flynn and Abra. Sensing what Flynn’s been through, Uxie decided to take care of Flynn. Uxie left and returned with a Naganadel, who was able to speak and give Flynn an education. Since Flynn rarely left the cave, he grew up lonely in the company of only Uxie, Naganadel, and Abra. Since he was 10, he would train with Abra against Uxie, which helped develop his love for Pokémon Battles.

At age 15, Flynn was educated and, Uxie let him leave. His first instinct was to embark on a Pokémon Journey. He wanted to find his parents, but most of all to become a Gym Leader. With his Abra’s, now a Kadabra’s increased teleportation powers, he was able to travel back to Lavender Town in a week. His battle prowess quickly became known throughout the city, and many people would gather to see his battles. He became a celebrity, but wanted to travel more.So he went on to travel to the other towns of Kanto, but vowed to return to his hometown.

After quick rejections in Johto and Hoenn because of his Kadabra (entertainers despised Kadabras), he traveled to the Sinnoh region. After a blizzard occurred and the airport doors were closed. An abandoned Kirlia was lost in the airport. Flynn felt sympathy for the Kirlia, as he went through the same thing he did. So, he decided to approach the Kirlia and was quickly able to catch it. With anotherPokémon on his team, Flynn felt confident as ever on his journey in this new place.

After a battle with Fantina, his Kadabra evolved into Alakazam, which helped him battle all the other Gym Leaders. After winning all battles at gyms except for Volkner, he decided to travel to Unova.

Shortly after arriving in Unova, a Sigilyph started a fight with Flynn’s Kirlia in the Forest, who evolved into a Gallade after the long battle. The Sigilyph took a liking to Flynn, and let Flynn catch him. Happy with his set of Pokémon, he set out in the Unova region, but not liking the Pokémon of people, he traveled to the Kalos region.

After an exhilarating Psychic vs. Psychic battle at the Anistar City Gym, his Kadabra evolved into Alakazam. Shortly after, he was invited back to his hometown for the opening of the Lavender City Gym. He was invited to be the gym leader.

When Bill and Lynn were found, it was a surprise to hear their story. When Bill and Lynn were on the plane to Sinnoh to observe Staryu populations, they crashed on Orre. For 12 years, they were stuck on the island, until a rescue squad found them. For 7 years, they searched for their son, until they heard the news about the Lavender City Gym.

When Flynn got to Kanto, he found out that his parents were alive, and welcomed him from the airport. “Mom, Dad?” was the start of a new beginning for Flynn Hesharnaes.

Pokémon 1: Alakazam
Poke Ball: Poke Ball
Caught: By Bill and Lynn Hesharnaes at the beginning of their Starmie endeavor.
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Quiet
Moveset: Teleport, Confusion, Psychic, Psybeam
Backstory: Caught as an Abra by hopeful Bill and Flynn Hesharnaes, he felt like a third wheel, and with his nature, he became very quiet and shy. When their son Flynn was born, he saw him as someone to enjoy things with, and in part, loved to play with him, and spent most of his time with the little Hesharnaes. Only when the couple disappeared did he realize how much he loved the Hesharnaes couple. His grieving generated enough energy to teleport all the way to Sinnoh, where he could keep Flynn safe. When he evolved into Kadabra, he was put to shame in Johto and Hoenn, he felt welcome in Sinnoh, but became jealous ignored Kirlia. Especially when Kirlia evolved before him.

Alakazam is a small Pokémon, and is very shy. He will only be outgoing when rivals surpass him. His battle style is more defensive, but he knows Psychic and Psybeam after he’s able to weaken his opponent. He has a deepfounded love for Flynn, answer will do anything for him.

Pokémon 2: Gallade
Poke Ball: Poke Ball
Caught: At the airport in Sinnoh
Ability: Steadfast
Nature: Brave
Moveset: Double Team, Close Combat, Psycho Cut, Leaf Blade
Backstory: After being abandoned by his old Fairy-type trainer for a Granbull, Kirlia thought he would forever be alone. But after a man walked to the airport where he was abandoned, he felt a connection. He trailed behind this man who was named Flynn, hoping he would notice the lonely Pokémon. Luckily, Flynn felt this same connection, and gladly entered his Poke Ball.

Like Alakazam, Gallade likes to weaken his opponent’s before knocking them out, By using Leaf Blades while using Double Team. Gallade is averaged size, and is very outgoing. Gallade is proud of being a Fighting Type, because it shows that he can remain tough even through his struggles. He hopes to start a new beginning with Flynn, and reach its full potential.

Pokémon 3: Sigilyph
Poke Ball: Poke Ball
Caught: In a Forest in Unova
Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Naughty
Moveset: Psywave, Tailwind, Reflect, Psychic
Backstory: Sigilyph was a lonely, wild Pokémon from the forests of Unova, who wildly seeked a trainer, but it’s wild and defensive personality made it unappealing to trainers. It was another day of the usual when a guy called Flynn passed by with his Kirlia, so the Avianoid Pokémon initiated another battle. After an intense battle, Kirlia evolved into Gallade, and Flynn caught Sigilyph, a dream come true.

Sigilyph is very wild Pokémon, and has a defensive battle strategy. He has psychic when the time comes, but mostly he’ll try to disable of deflect the opponent. His behavior isn’t tolerated by Alakazam and Gallade, but Flynn doesn’t mind. Like Gallade, he hopes to start something new with Flynn.

This is probably really bad (I’m not proud of my writing skills), but it was fun to do!

Thanks, I'll check it out! Everyone has until tomorrow night to finish their narratives! I'll be providing questions/comments soon and the voting process will begin as well, so stay on your toes! Very fun reads so far, this will be a competitive contest!

Trainer Name, Gender, Age: Donna, female, 27
Physical Description: Medium height, often wearing very glitzy outfits, shoulder length black hair

Hometown/region: Hearthome City (Sinnoh)
Occupation: Singer
Backstory: Always in awe at the amazing spectacles displayed in Pokemon Contests, she loved watching them from a young age - and living in Hearthome City, she'd often be found at the Contest Hall there. Even though she tried several times with her mum’s Floatzel, she never really got the hang of what to do in contests. Despite this, she still loved going to contests, dreaming that maybe one day she’d be on that stage with a Pokemon of her own, holding a ribbon in victory.
During her teenage years, she got into music and playing instruments. She’d often make up silly little songs that she’d sing whilst playing her guitar or piano, and whilst the lyrics weren’t anything special, she got told many times that her voice was impressive.
After getting so much good feedback, she decided that she would write her own songs. Even though her first few weren’t so good, she honed in on her skill and eventually she’d be on a small stage outside in Hearthome City almost every week.
When she was given Eevee, her future plan was clear: she would combine the performance elements of the contests she loved with her singing. Eevee enjoyed having fun making little displays, but once he evolved into Espeon and they worked together, they got massive applause from her audiences – occasionally, people would come from as far as Snowpoint City just to see for themselves.
Despite showing herself as this fun pop star, she was incredibly fussy about her Pokemon: often, she’d catch Pokemon and release them if they weren’t up to her standard – almost every time they wouldn’t even be good enough to make it to their first performance. She often got criticized for promising new spectacles, however she was often forced to reuse Espeon’s old routines. Eventually, this led to her catching Roselia, and now she’d found a new Pokemon that she was going to keep, people started showing more interest again. Once she’d caught Rotom, she had a lot more to work with now that she was able to utilise Rotom’s form changes on stage.
Since then, she’s made a real name for herself throughout the region – she’s gone to many different towns and cities to perform, she’s released albums – she’s even gone over to different regions to do performances. However, even though she gets such praise for her work and gets to see so many different places, she’s happiest just being at home with her Espeon, Roserade and Rotom, and having fun with them planning new spectacles. During her time off, she’ll often be found still watching the Contests at Hearthome Contest Hall like she used to do as a child.

Pokémon 1: Espeon
Caught: Given to her as an Eevee when she was 20
Ability: Magic Bounce
Nature: Docile
Learnset: Psyshock, Dazzling Gleam, Signal Beam, Baby-Doll Eyes
Backstory: When she was at an impressionable age, Donna saw a Coordinator with a Sylveon who made an amazing display using various moves. After that, she got Sylveon obsessed – she’d have posters, t-shirts, hats – you name it, she probably had it with a picture of a Sylveon on.
This obsession went on for quite a while, and eventually she got given her first Pokemon – an Eevee. She absolutely fell in love with this Eevee as soon as she held him for the first time, and Eevee soon got incredibly happy with his new owner.
However, that happiness didn’t last so long – when he’d evolved, he was an Espeon. Even though Donna wanted a Sylveon, she still tried to look on the positive side of what Espeon could do. After watching a Contest with Donna, she and Espeon came up with a plan: practicing for hours, he perfected a routine –he would use Psyshock to make a purple fog around itself, and then would use Signal Beam to make a shockingly colourful display of lights. After seeing this, Donna realised how much Espeon wanted to make her happy, and she would try and figure out new ways of using Espeon’s moves to the full potential.
Despite being docile and often quite reserved, he does have a tendency to push in and make himself the centre of Donna’s affection if she’s ignoring him. Espeon has a love for Donna’s voice and often during her concerts he’ll forget what routine he’s doing and will just sit there listening to his owner.

Pokémon 2: Roserade
Caught: Route 212 as a Roselia, 3 years ago
Ability: Poison Point
Nature: Calm
Learnset: Petal Blizzard, Toxic Spikes, Stun Spore, Magical Leaf
Backstory: After being told by several people that Espeon alone wouldn’t be enough to get her anywhere in contests or battles, Donna decided she needed a new Pokemon – but with her being fussy, it took a while for her one that she really liked. She caught several different Pokemon, but ended up releasing them all (sometimes only hours after catching them). However, on her way back to Hearthome, she encountered a Roselia and immediately loved it. Unlike a usual Roselia, her roses were a mixture of different colours. It didn’t take too much to catch her, and as soon as Donna got home she started training it she knew she was going to keep Roselia on her team. Even though it took a fair bit of effort to perfect the move, its Petal Blizzard was an instant hit with Contest audiences – the multitude of different colour petals combined with the glow of its Magical Leaf had people talking for days.
After a competitive battle with a trainer, Roselia lost against a Pokemon and she took the defeat quite hard; despite usually being calm and collected, she did like the taste of victory. Shortly after this time, during a training period, Donna was offered a Shiny Stone – however she was apprehensive; she was so fond of her Roselia’s petals, and didn’t want to risk anything happening to them. Roselia had different ideas however; she walked straight past Donne and knocked the Shiny Stone out of the person’s hand and allowed it to evolve her. However, her roses stayed the same colours, which was quite a relief for Donna.
Her favourite thing to do at Donna’s concerts is use Petal Blizzard as confetti; she often does this in conjunction with Espeon’s Psyshock to make fun patterns with the petals.

Optional:
Unique characteristics: Whilst a regular Roserade usually has a red bouquet and a blue bouquet, this one is a bit different: one bouquet has a mixture of blue, purple and black roses, and the other has a mixture of red, yellow and pink ones.

Pokémon 3: Rotom
Caught: Old Chateau, 2 years ago
Ability: Levitate
Nature: Impish
Learnset: Shadow Ball, Discharge, Will-O-Wisp, Shock Wave (the fourth slot changes between Leaf Storm, Overheat, Hydro Pump, Air Slash and Blizzard depending on the form it’s taken; Shock Wave is the default move when it’s in its regular form)
Backstory: During a visit to Eterna City, Donna went into the Eterna Forest and came across the Old Chateau; after going in, she found the place was full of ghosts. Finding herself scared, she went into a room with only a TV in it - but shortly after that an incredibly hostile Haunter came in and went to attack her. Even though her Espeon and Roselia put up a fair fight, they both were eventually defeated. Stuck in the room, she suddenly saw a flash of light and a Rotom had come to her defense.
Rotom made short work of the Haunter, and even though Donna was terrified, the Rotom was kind to her; it showed her where she could find healing items for her Roselia and Espeon, and made sure she got out of the Chateau ok. Before she left, she noticed the Rotom looking sad as it went back in. She then went to ask it if it wanted to join her – the Rotom was very happy at this suggestion, and allowed Donna to catch it.
After she took the Rotom home, it caused some havoc – it would inhabit all the appliances in the house – a few times she got a slight shock whenever she was opening the fridge or turning on a fan. She managed to find old appliances for Rotom to go into whenever it wanted.
Despite Rotom being one of Donna’s strongest Pokemon, it tends to be a lot happier having fun practicing various ways it can use its moves in a non-competitive way, and prefers having fun making various dazzling sights rather than battling. Because of this, it’s often found as a different form as it’s the only way it can provide Water, Ice, Fire and Flying spectacles for Donna.

This is the first proper writing thing I've done in a while so it's probably not the best, but I had fun doing it anyway :)
