Music is a huge deal to me. I'm always listening to music. I'd rather listen to a new album than watch a new movie/show any day.
The title says it all. What have you been listening to lately?
And for fun, what are your top five favorite bands and/or if you're like me, albums?

Here's what I've been listening to lately... these are also my favorite albums, after listening to a lot of new music for awhile, I always come back to these at some point.

Bloc Party / Silent Alarm

Hammock / Maybe They Will Sing for Us Tomorrow

The Cribs / Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever

Band of Horses / Cease to Begin

Nirvana / Nevermind

And the best album I've listened to so far this year would have to be:

Bombay Bicycle Club / So Long, See You Tomorrow

RE: What Are You Listening To?

Hey a music thread! I LOVE (my) music! Here's a few artist and albums people should listen too! I even included a song from said album : )

And good choice in music beebahboo.

 • Nirvana - Nevermind

 • Radiohead - OK Computer

 • Iron and Wine - Our Endless Numbered Days

All great songs which I would highly recommend to virtually anyone. Specifically Dogs. The bridge at 2:02 is breath taking, stunning.

RE: What Are You Listening To?

I mostly listen to instrumental stuff and game music. And instrumental game music. Never did care much for lyrics; when I listen to music it's generally a background thing, not a full focus deal.

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Some stand out tracks:

A new song was just released for this game I play a ton as well, so I've been listening to it on repeat haha.

Child of Light's soundtrack is utterly sublime; thinking of purchasing a physical CD of that one.

And there's a ton more, but I don't want to spam this thread with a billion links, lol.

RE: What Are You Listening To?

Didn't we already have a topic for this? Regardless, I've been listening to mostly the same stuff I was the last time I posted in the old thread. That would include Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Red. Lately I have also been listening to some Papa Roach and Sum 41, and also Korn, Disturbed, Slipknot, and Ozzy Osbourne. Great stuff.

Top Five Favorite Bands - and suggested songs

Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane: Probably their most popular song, it's pretty phenomenal, at least imo.

Bullet For My Valentine - All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me): It's a great introspective song, and if you like the "drop" in dubstep it has a pretty good "drop," but it is most definitely not dubstep. Very much so a metal group/song.

Avenged Sevenfold - Afterlife: Not one of their most popular songs, but it's got beautiful guitar and I personally like the lyrics, and the song also creates some cool contrast within itself.

Linkin Park - One Step Closer: It's a good angry song, and I just love the beat and the riff playing in the background throughout the song. I also love, in all of their songs, Chester and Shinoda alternating on the lyrics.

Metallica - Don't Tread On Me: Another angry song, which is always great, and it has quite the awesome guitar solo. Just a great metal band in general.

I love the Foo Fighters. My favorite songs by them are Walk, Everlong, These Days. I like pretty much any thing by them, but these are my 3 favorites.

The acoustic version of Everlong is just amazing, the studio cut is great of course, but I just find that version of it outstanding.

RE: What Are You Listening To?

I'm proud to be a metalhead. As such, my listenings include a wide variety of hard rock and heavy metal music. Here's a few albums and bands. I've tried to cover many aspects of the genre.

Iron Maiden-The Number of the Beast
In my opinion, one of the greatest albums ever, metal or else. This is Iron Maiden at their best. An album where the worst song (Gangland) is great, and the best song (Hallowed be Thy Name) is something from out of this world. The New Wave Of British Heavy Metal at all of its glory.

Black Sabbath-Paranoid
Black Sabbath are the patriarchs of heavy metal, and this album is their most well-known, and one of their best (if not the best). With songs like Paranoid, Iron Man and Electric Funeral and Ozzy Osbourne's alien voice combining with the skills of some of the best musicians of the 20th century makes up for a devastating result that every metalhead, new or old to the genre, should listen to.

Metallica-Master of Puppets
Considered one of the Big 4, the first bands to play what would later be called thrash metal, Metallica are not as harsh as the bands that followed, but they are unique at what they play, and good at it. Master of Puppets is probably their best album, a display of musical prominence. Cliff Burton signs with his unique bass playstyle, giving a whole new meaning to the instrument, and really boosting all songs.

Manowar-Into Glory Ride
The term of metal warriors, and the epicness of the genre, had already been used in the past, but Manowar brought it to a whole new level. Though extreme in cases, the passion is seen in their first five albums (after that they began to decline), and their songs literally shake the ground. Into Glory Ride is their best album, an album that makes you wanna roar and fly into battle yourself.

Judas Priest-Painkiller
Classic metal. Judas Priest have always been like it. Among the first to add a heroic feel to their songs, they didn't take it as far as Manowar, but it is enough to set you on fire. Leather Rebel and Touch of Evil are among the greatest metal songs, and this album as a whole is a heavy metal hymn. In my opinion, the best work of Judas Priest (and unfortunately, again in my opinion, their last good work).

Blind Guardian-Nightfall on Middle Earth
Epic metal with the fantasy gene. Many bands have used it, but among them Blind Guardian reign supreme. The songs are taking you to another plane of existence, where you see the heroes and monsters fighting before you. Great music from a great, dedicated band.

The Haunted-The Dead Eye
Thrash. Simply thrash. Although considered more "melodic" than other works of the band, The Dead Eye is still a great way to let out your rage. Songs that make you wanna break down the world. You just can't stop headbanging at them.

Dream Theater-Images and Words
Progressive metal is a hard genre. These people are experimenting with playstyles that would scare many prominent musicians. Dream Theater are the undoubted masters of the genre, and this is among their best works. Listening to them can be hard. But if you ever want proof that heavy metal is music and not noise, try and listen to them. Or just do it for your enjoyment.

Paradise Lost-Draconian Times
Doom metal is hard to listen. Really hard. But if you can understand this kind of music, then you're in for a great band in Paradise Lost. With music that seems to loom over you, imposing and heavy, Paradise Lost foretell the apocalypse with every note. But it doesn't matter, 'cos you listen to them.

My favorite song for the album is actually Run to the Hills, though Hallowed be Thy Name is awesome. Just a great album. I also really like the albums Powerslave and Killers from Iron Maiden.

Edit: Battery is so good off of Master of Puppets, the Spanish guitar influenced intro is just awesome.

Here's some more songs I like because I could go on for days...

RE: What Are You Listening To?

So, uh, this is a pretty big deal! :)
Pretty excited about this news!

Anyway, I've been listening to +44 quite a bit the past few days.
Weatherman is just a damn good song.

Kid Cudi's new album, which is actually much better than I was expecting.
Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon
kidcudi-420x420-350x350.jpg

Metronomy's newest, which I'd say is probably their best.
Love Letters
2014Metronomy_LoveLetters280214.jpg

Probably played this one 6+ times through in two days.

I've been waiting for this gem for awhile:
Phantogram / Voices
phantogram_voices_cover_final-2-1024x1024-e1389718166691.jpg

Pretty bummed I couldn't afford to go see their show a couple weeks ago.

Listened to this:
Coldplay / Ghost Stories
Coldplay_-_Ghost_Stories.jpg

Wasn't what I was hoping for after hearing "Midnight" (I'm guessing most of the credit for that song should probably go to Jon Hopkins), to say the least.
Meh, I'll have to give it another listen in a week or so.

:D

5sos (5 Seconds of Summer)

5sos is honestly my favorite band. I really love their song 'Amnesia', it's just beautiful.
I drove by all the places we used to hang out getting wasted
I thought about our last kiss, how it felt the way you tasted
And even though your friends tell me you're doing fine

Are you somewhere feeling lonely even though he's right beside you?
When he says those words that hurt you, do you read the ones I wrote you?

Sometimes I start to wonder, was it just a lie?
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?

'Cause I'm not fine at all

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the make-up running down your face
And the dreams you left behind you didn't need them
Like every single wish we ever made
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

'Cause I'm not fine at all

The pictures that you sent me they're still living in my phone
I'll admit I like to see them, I'll admit I feel alone
And all my friends keep asking why I'm not around

It hurts to know you're happy, yeah, it hurts that you've moved on
It's hard to hear your name when I haven't seen you in so long

It's like we never happened, was it just a lie?
If what we had was real, how could you be fine?

'Cause I'm not fine at all

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the make-up running down your face
And the dreams you left behind you didn't need them
Like every single wish we ever made
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

If today I woke up with you right beside me
Like all of this was just some twisted dream
I'd hold you closer than I ever did before
And you'd never slip away
And you'd never hear me say

I remember the day you told me you were leaving
I remember the make-up running down your face
And the dreams you left behind you didn't need them
Like every single wish we ever made
I wish that I could wake up with amnesia
And forget about the stupid little things
Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you
And the memories I never can escape

'Cause I'm not fine at all
No, I'm really not fine at all
Tell me this is just a dream
'Cause I'm really not fine at all
Lyrics gotten here
So this thread is just about the amazing band...
5 Seconds of Summer!!!

I've recently been listening to Knife Party's new album Abandon Ship. It is worth the $20 I spent on it, mostly because I set car alarms off when I drive by them while listening to it.

My favorite artist of all time are:

1. HUGE and I mean HUGE fan of Katy Perry and probably the worlds biggest Katy Perry YouTube channel as well. It is bigger than her own channel and the fans channels out there. if anyone wants a link to my channel PM me.:)
2. Britney Spears used to be a huge fan but still like her music though.:)
3. Oldies music.:)

My favorite Albums:

Katy Perry Prism
Katy Perry Teenage Dream/The Complete Confection
The fan made Greatest hits albums on YouTube which I listen to all the time like right now. I listen to about 4 hours worth each and every day.:)

MtC direct me over here...

Just to get a song stuck in people's heads:

I've been meaning to check out Pink Floyd's new album The Endless River while I only managed to hear their new hit single Louder than Words which sounds a lot like their music from The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall.

"Sounds like"=/="is". And it can often be a bad thing rather than a good one. Pink Floyd did release good songs after the departure of Roger Waters, but they are only a handful. The Final Cut is a great example of this, a struggling album. The Endless River is more or less the same, an attempt aiming more towards the power of the band's name and its dedication to Wright than good music itself.

Here's some classic Pink Floyd.

I've been listening to a lot of Ariel Pink, Kendrick Lamar and St. Vincent.

I really love Ariel's lo-fi pop style (even if PYNIMP isn't exactly lo-fi) it screams charm and is very infectious. PomPom was easily my favorite album of the year as I enjoyed every song on it (except for Picture Me Gone, which I felt was very drawn out and had some weak production backing it up).

Kendrick Lamar is the best Hip Hop still making music and I will hear no word against it. All of his songs have excellent production and Good Kid M.A.A.D. City was an amazing album that made him one of my favorite artists around. The level of depth in his songs (especially Swimming Pools and Poetic Justice) are truly amazing due to the aforementioned great production, excellent lyrics and self awareness.

If music artists could be judged soley on personality St Vincent would easily be my favorite. That said, her music is also amazing and her most recent self-titled album (which has won numerous Best Album of the Year Awards) was an amazing package that I listened to a lot in the first half of the year.

Shout outs to Tyler, the Creator, Future Islands, Azaelia Banks, The Glitch Mob and TeddyLoid as well, great stuff.

In the past month I have been looking for more music.

Right now I'm in love with Mother Mother (My favourite songs on Oh My Heart are Ghosting, Burning Pile, Body, and Burning Pile.)

This was the first song I heard by them and I immediately was in love with everything about it. It really spoke to me. Easily my favourite song of all time.

I have been dawdling around with Tally Hall's Never Meant to Know, &, Hymn for a Scarecrow, and A Lady. Although I do not like a lot of lyrical choices in his songs.

I do not like the part where he says fly repeatedly, but the rest is nice. I especially like the end.

I like this one song by Portugal. the Man called So American.

Love the lyrics at the end.

But most of all, I've been finding solace in Hurtbreak Wonderland by World's End Girlfriend.

Since this is the last track of the album, I suggest listening to the whole thing. But you can listen to this on its own as there are no lyrics or any actual story going along with it. But the tone works best when in context with the rest of the music.

This album is so soothing for me. It is not distracting at all and I fell in love with it being in the background while I worked, so much so that silence made me antsy. It almost feels like it is healing you, if that makes any sense. When I feel bad, I put this on and it eases whatever pain I'm dealing with. As if it is leeching it away. Very nice.

(The track I love is at 1:07:43)

Besides those, I have been enjoying Nicki Minaj's Pinkprint and assorted songs I come across.

Honestly, I can think of so many songs that I love listening to but that would take a very long time.

I like a thread to share and discuss music since it seems I am constantly searching for more.
