It's eye-wateringly steep, but I doubt the subscriber count would triple if the price dropped to 5 bucks. Even if it did, they'd still be making less money thanks to transaction fees.
No, it provides a single unit of energy that is every type simultaneously. TPCi has stated that repeatedly, but this particular ruling makes it very clear:
Most people who buy Pokemon cards don't have anything graded; they're just buying packs for their own amusement.
Card collections in apps like these exist on the game developers' servers; it's essentially impossible to create fake digital cards.

It's not my first instinct to think this is a tie-in for an unannounced game, either (the SV DLC is reason enough, and like you said, tie-ins typically fill the year after the game), but it's not entirely accurate to say we don't get remakes in consecutive gens. FRLG and HGSS released in...
Eh... Interns or not, shutting PTCGO down with no replacement would have fostered less ill-will and have been cheaper than developing Live, paying Direwolf to maintain PTCGO for an extra year because Live wasn't ready, and continuing to pay Direwolf to maintain the code card system for another...
Bundles from Live's in-game shop never feature assortments of packs. It's always exclusively packs from the most recent regular set at the time of the bundle's release or from the same special set as the IRL version.
