About possible decks for regionals, if you want to play an archetype deck, I would recommend you an easy one to play in my opinion: Raieggs (Raichu d + Exeggutor d + holon castform + cessation crystal) - it is fast, simple and relatively competitive ;) thanks

Energy search is really useless. It is simply not worth the space in a competitive deck. Just play one more energy instead of it, or one really useful trainer card, or a tech. ;) Thanks

I think nobody here is over hyping it... as I said before it is not self-sufficient, and having more than three on a deck is just suicide... it has to be played in the right moment and with lots of caution… Of course it only works as a tech/ finisher, but for example it is one of the rare...

It is obvious that you can't have a deck based on salamence ex PK... it wouldn't have any chance against the majority of decks. But I think that having a 2-1-2 or 1-0-1 line as a tech, or adding one in decks like sallygross would be a good choice. What is the problem of discarding 15 or 20...

In my opinion blaziken RS\PK is also a good card to use with it, since when you are using volcanic flame with an active salamence ex, with the discarded cards (and possibly energy) and blaziken poké-power  you are preparing another salamence ex.

In fact a combo with altaria ex is insane. I would only use the second attack when necessary, but putting a omastar tech line wouldn't be bad either :)
