Japan’s World Qualifier Tournaments Cancelled

The Japan World Championship Qualifiers have been cancelled until further notice in light of the March 11th 8.9 earthquake (the announcement came a week after the earthquake, but we only noticed it now). Unless the Qualifiers are opened again at a later time or the Japanese derive another method of choosing who to represent their country, many of their players will not be given the chance to participate in this year’s Worlds tournament in San Diego. The translated announcement is below courtesy of Bangiras.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the Tohoku-Pacific earthquake, and we give our sympathy to the victims and their families. In light of the earthquake and the current state of affairs, all Pokemon World Championship Japanese qualifiers that were previously announced are hereby suspended. Enrollment in these events and confirmation of participation through the Daisuki Club is also suspended. We sincerely apologize to everyone who was looking
forward to these events, but we ask for your understanding.

We’re looking into ways to bring joy to people who love Pokemon during this crisis and will announce our plans on the official site, so in the mean time we ask for your patience.

We are praying for a speedy recovery.
