We previously reported on the banning of Mismagius and Bellelba & Brycen-Man from the Standard format. At the time, Creatures said they would be reworking the cards and releasing them with new artwork.
The updated versions have been revealed below. They are considered brand new cards that “spiritually replace” the old ones (our interpretation). As stated in our previous article:
This move is unprecedented because Pokemon are always just banned and that’s the end of them. Creatures has never decided to “re-release” them with updated effects. So it seems in the future, they may just nerf cards and re-release them rather than outright erase them from the format.
Both of the “spiritual replacements” have completely new effects. Bellelba & Brycen-Man doesn’t even have the same name, it’s now named Sabrina & Brycen. Which makes sense since both Gym Leaders are now out of their movie disguises! Both cards also carry the “C” regulation mark, so they’ll rotate out at the same time as the originals would have.
[P] Psybeam: 20 damage. Your opponent’s Active Pokemon is now Confused.
[P][C] Curse of Suffering: If your opponent’s Active Pokemon has exactly 9 damage counters on it, that Pokemon is Knocked Out.
Weakness: Darkness (x2)
Search your deck for up to 2 basic Energy cards, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.
When you play this card, you may also discard five cards from your hand. If you do, search your deck for up to 3 Pokémon of different types and put them into your hand.
You may play only 1 Supporter card during your turn (before your attack).
No word yet on if or when we will get the new versions of these cards outside of Japan.
