Marshadow & Machamp-GX, Incineroar, Salazzle from ‘Double Blaze!’

A new Tag Team for Marshadow & Machamp-GX has just been revealed from SM10 Double Blaze, as has a new Incineroar and Salazzle!

Marshadow & Machamp-GX – Fighting – HP270
Basic Pokemon (TAG TEAM)

[F][C] Revenge: 30+ damage. If any of your Pokemon were Knocked Out by damage from an opponent’s attack during their last turn, this attack does 90 more damage.

[F][F][C] Hundred Impact: 160 damage.

[F][F][C]+ Extremity of Stalwart GX: 200 damage. If this Pokemon has at least 1 extra Energy attached to it (in addition to this attack’s cost), if this Pokemon would be Knocked Out by damage from an attack during your opponent’s next turn, it is not Knocked Out, and its remaining HP becomes 10. (You can’t use more than 1 GX attack in a game.)

When your TAG TEAM is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 3 Prize cards.

Weakness: Psychic (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: ??

Incineroar – Fire – HP160
Stage 2 – Evolves from Torracat

Ability: Strong Yell
Your Pokemon’s attacks do 30 more damage to your opponent’s Active Pokemon (before applying Weakness and Resistance). You can’t use more than 1 Strong Yell Ability during your turn.

[R][C] Flamethrower: 90 damage. Discard an Energy from this Pokemon.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Salazzle – Fire – HP100
Stage 1 – Evolves from Salandit

Ability: Roast Reveal
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may discard a [R] Energy from your hand. If you do, draw 3 cards.

[R][C] Combustion: 60 damage.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

SM10 Double Blaze will be released on March 1st. It’ll feature 95 cards, not including secret rare cards, and will be released as part of our Unbroken Bonds set in May. Thanks goes to Tunu for the translations!

MarshChamp is basically Buzzwole-GX buffed up to TTGX level, but without Jet Punch. Make of that what you will. Also, it can OHKO a Pikarom very early with Counter Gain if a Zapdos rushes you and gets a T1/T2 KO. And the new Buzzwole-counter Marshadow will not work on it. All in all I don't think this card is that terrible, but it only works in a specific meta. Not having energy acceleration for it in Standard means that you will most likely never get to unlock the additional effect of the TTGX attack though.

Between Salazzle, Welder and Fire Crystal, fire decks will have to run zero "classic" draw supporters - or at least only a reduced amount compared to other decks.

I like the Machamp&Marshadow Tag Team GX, but Extremity of Stalwart GX will be too easy to metagame for if it turns out to be _that_ common of a card (since it's easy to add an extra 10 damage, either via Shrine or Poison or something else). So it can't ever be a tier-1-deck-defining card by itself, unless you don't care about the GX move (maybe you don't, as others have shown doing 160+modifiers turn 2 is amazing).

Incineroar seems great for decks that can fit it in. Maybe you just play a 1-1 line in electric decks, for example, using Volkner to grab the rare candy, just basically as a convenience - another way to add 30 - and not worry too much if you don't get it out early. Zapdos for example would love this, right? Go from 80 to 110 just with Incineroar, and then add in another 30-60 with choice band and/or electropower - one of each and you can OHKO a lot of things.

First fighting, then electric, and now fire types are getting a ton of support.
    Trend?

And a few sets ago Psychic did, for sure (Malamar, Mysterious Treasure, etc.). I imagine they're aiming to have, by worlds, as many types as possible be quite playable. Otherwise it's going to be quite boring...

I feel like ptcg with the last few sets has been creating archetypes with their pokemon. Such as water floods the field with energy, lightning is quick attacking, metal is protective, etc. which really intrigues me as we move forward.

Absolutely love the idea of Marshadow and Machamp together for a tag team pair. Card is kind of situational but a basic with that much hp and not ridiculous energy requirements to attack will see some play but Malamar decks still destroy it.

As expected with Mitsuhiro Arita's illustrations, both Charizard/Reshiram & Machamp/Marshadow look pretty good.

I wonder if these GX cards are for how-to-play sets.

Marshadow & Machamp GX seems really playable in expanded where it has access to Milotic for energy acceleration and various forms of damage boosting beyond Diancie prism star. Its the only Tag Team thus far to be able to hit high enough damage numbers off of only 3-4 energy with its non-gx attack to consistently take out opposing non tag-team GXs and its massive 270HP, access to focus sash, and the option of Extremity of Stalwart GX makes it really difficult to take out before it takes multiple KOs. Combine that with Scramble Switch in expanded and its very well equipped to get a ton of mileage out of the 1-2 prizes youd give up using Milotic's ability against any EX/GX decks with attackers like Buzzwole GX helping clean up low HP single prize attackers.

edit: I forgot to mention that with how Extremity of Stalwart GX is worded, it will still work after a Focus Sash, meaning even if they can OHKO your 270 HP mon it can still attack at least 3 times.

On the bright side there’s now a fighting retaliate option for pikachu zekrom - you’ll still need to worry about the energy cost though :/

I like Mew's ability even if it is very niche.

these 3 were obviously meant to be played together - could be decent since Electropower is a card that exists

Mew looks interesting. Nobody has seemed to notice that it’s an auto-win against spread.
Spiritomb actually looks like a pretty good deck. You have Mew to prevent spread from walloping your deck, you could use Shrine and Banette GX to move damage to Spiritomb, and you could hit for numbers like 210, provided Choice Band, Kukui, and 5 Damage counters.
Stunfisk got a good card! There’s two things that make this card the best that’s been revealed:
    • With 6 damaged Pokémon, you’re hitting 180 for a DCE, 210 with a ‘Band, and even more with Electropower. This could totally play Shrine and have a bunch of benched GXs, and one of them Banette GX so you can damage Stunfisk. That seems clunky, though, so I’ll hold on to that one.
    • THERE’S GOOMY IN THE BACKGROUND! WHEE, AT LAST! And I just realized, holy crap, are we gonna get another Goomy line with Stunfisk in the background? Is there going to be the unlikely chance that we’ll get Goodra in a tag team? Who knows! Three cheers for Goomy in the background!
Anywho, seems like a load of decent cards here, ecspecially Stunfisk.

Then you could play mew with the bench barrier so your opponent can't clap you with flying flip.

I didn't think this needed to be pointed out since this card has already been printed twice, it was just called Mr. Mime then :p This one has a sightly more useful attack though.
