‘Lost Thunder’ To Be Largest Set in TCG’s History… By Far!

Lost Thunder will be the first set in the TCG’s history to breach the 200 card barrier!

It’ll include over 210 cards — and that’s not even including the multitude of secret rares!

This is following Aquapolis‘s 186 cards, Celestial Storm‘s 183 cards, and Skyridge‘s 182 cards.

The set will feature seven Prism Star cards (three of which are Stadiums), 13 Pokemon-GX, four Ultra Beast cards, and more than 20 Trainer cards.

This information means our English set will be a combination of three Japanese sets — SM7a Thunderclap Spark, SM7b Fairy Rise, and the currently unrevealed SM8 Explosive Impact.

Thus, our set’s GX cards would be…

  • SM7a’s Virizion-GX, Magcargo-GX, Zeraora-GX, and Genesect-GX
  • SM7b’s Sceptile-GX, Sigilyph-GX, Alolan Ninetales-GX, and Mimikyu-GX
  • SM8’s Blacephalon-GX, Tyranitar-GX, Lugia-GX, and two unknown GX cards from that set.

The possible Prism Star cards would be Ditto and Thunder Mountain from SM7a, Xerneas and Life Forest from SM7b, and from SM8 it would be Celebi as well as two unrevealed Prism Star cards – one of which will be a Stadium card.

Lost Thunder‘s Trainer cards would include Electric Power, Custom Catcher, Mix Herb, Counter Gain, Kahili, Sightseer, Judge and Thunder Mountain Prism Star from SM7a. From SM7b, it would be Net Ball, Adventuring Satchel, Spell Tag, Fairy Charm [P], Fairy Charm [F], Fairy Charm [N], Morty, Mina, and Life Forest Prism Star. And then any Trainers from SM8, including a Prism Star Stadium card.

Pokemon TCG: Sun & Moon– Lost Thunder

Ancient Power Echoing from the Mountaintops!

Travel to the forested hills, where the fragrance of incense from ancient shrines and the sparks of high-voltage Pokemon fill the air!

The Sun & Moon—Lost Thunder expansion fuses the new with the traditional, featuring Celebi Prism Star and Ditto Prism Star, plus Blacephalon-GX, Lugia-GX, Tyranitar-GX, and the newest Mythical Pokemon, Zeraora-GX! Call down the big thunder and charge up your deck with the high-powered Pokemon in the Sun & Moon- Lost Thunder expansion!

  • Over 210 cards
  • 7 powerful Prism Star cards, including 3 Stadium cards
  • 13 Pokemon-GX and 4 Ultra Beasts
  • More than 20 Trainer cards

Thanks goes to Steffenka for compiling the card lists above!

The bolded part part is enough for me to consider it the worst generation of the TCG. This alone has caused me to loose interest in collecting SM sets. And this is after a very strong run of collecting from the end of the DPPt/beginning of HGSS era to now (after a hiatus from the end of the ex to mid DP eras).

But regarding your average player comment, I have to disagree in a sense. The higher the ultra rare count in a set, the lower the chance is that you pull a particular card. So let's ignore the fact that it will have a reprint soon and take Tapu Lele GX as an example. If it was in a set that just had 6 regular GX's in it, if you got a pack with a regular GX in it, your chances of getting Tapu Lele would be 16.6%. But since Guardians Rising has 12 regular GX's in it, your chances of getting a Tapu Lele are 8.3%; half of the previous example. And that's not factoring in anything like full arts, rainbow rares, the odds of pulling an ultra rare versus a holo or regular rare, how many ultra rares you get in a box, etc. I understand you were saying that GX's, on average, have been better/more interesting to play with than most EX's, but in my opinion, the frustrations of the cons (terrible for collectors, worse chances at pulling something specific) outweigh the pros (more possible interesting cards to play with).

It's 3 more GXs and 1 more Prism Star than Ultra Prism (173+ cards). Assuming the 13 GX have FAs and there are about 10 Trainer FAs (if all included), then there are still around almost 170 cards that are not Ultra Rares. That's quite insane, so pulling a specific holo card or maybe even an uncommon will be harder than a GX if there are still 4 regular GXs per box. There will be around 20 holos.

I'm still processing this news. Holy moly... This sure is hell for collectors. I'm not even near completing all the previous sets:
    - Sun & Moon (complete)
    - Guardians Rising (complete)
    - Burning Shadows (missing: SR Energies and SR Lycanroc)
    - Crimson Invasion (missing: SR Water Energy)
    - Ultra Prism (missing 8 full art, 4 HR, 3 SR items)
    - Forbidden Light (don't get me started, although I have Beast Ring and Mysterious Treasure)
    - Celestial Storm (booster box and stuff arrive today. )

Maybe I'll start a crowdfunding campaign for this set! (and maybe one to for the missing Gold Stars from previous sets).

Why, exactly how is it the worst? I mean, the tcg has given us some really fun cards to play with. Are you talking from a collector standpoint?

As a collector, this mostly poses a storage challenge more than anything else. One set or two, they were all going to get collected regardless. If anything, I'm happy that I don't have to deal with two "only in product, no booster boxes" sets so close together. Those are way more expensive to deal with.

Sceptile-GX is a nice homage to the OG Mega Sceptile (aka my first real deck.) We will have to wait and see if it will be good!

Based on my pull rates I should quit today! I opened my Celestial Storm booster box and all I got where: Latias, Latios and Jirachi Prism Star, Articuno, Electrode and Alolan Raticate GX and Tate & Liza Full Art. Box full of crap! I hope Lost Thunder will be better for me....

i would bet that they will make a SM version of the XY super premium box with all the full arts we end up missing, near the end of the SM run.

Set completion just got harder. I'll still try (on TCGO anyway) but wow, definitely surprising to see such a big one. Wonder how many of those will be playable and if it'll be a GRI-tier shakeup of the meta, but we haven't even hit rotation yet so speculating on that seems a little premature (or too difficult).
