Z-Crystals came onto the scene as a sort of "middle ground" after Mega Evolutions. Instead of being relegated to specific Pokemon; Z-Moves can be used by any Pokemon that has an Attack corresponding to the type of Z-Crystal held. Z-Crystals come in every type in the game; with a bunch of Pokemon-specific (and Move-specific) Z-Crystals floating out there.
