yes, i'm finally going to get started on my nuzlocke run tomorrow! i'm going to play either sapphire or emerald. (though its probably going to be sapphire) i really hope that i can get through this time, and this thread should make it easier. if things go well, i might even try recording at least some of the run. it should be fun. =)

anyway, my ruleset:

- if a pokemon faints, it must be permanently boxed, never to be used again
- only one pokemon may be caught per area, and it can only be the first one encountered*
*if I have already caught one of that particular pokemon, i may continue searching for a pokemon until a unique species appears
- all pokemon must be nicknamed
- i may only use each pokemon center one time. for each time after, i must pay a 300 fine
- i may only use poke-balls to capture pokemon
- the box legendary must be killed
- no legends allowed

also here are my rules other than the 2 main ones

Adjusting the first encounter rule to ban duplicate captures.
Considering a black out/white out to be "game over," even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
Banning the use of Pokémon Centers, relying only on potions and healing items for healing.
Banning the use of Master Balls.
No catching of legendaries.
Legendaries must be killed.

Also Hatman I wanted to call my magicrap Dmaster, but you took the name :(
 
You just buy a Potion or something and trash it.

Anyways, for me, Girafarig has been a BEAST. I never knew it was this good ._.

All I seem to be doing is grinding, I'm to scared to take on any Gym Leaders, and I got the names confused, the second gym leader in Emerald :p Thats who i'm stuck on :)
 
Second Gym is Fighting, so Gulpin should handle that nicely. His highest level is 18 I believe, so you are a bit overleveled. Just evolve that Magikarp quickly!

anyway, i'm getting started on the game (sapphire) now! i intend on starting with a mudkip named pepper...we'll see how it goes! =D

EDIT: ugh I already lost my nuzlocke to a seedot with bide on route 104. how embarrassing. >__> oh well, i suppose i can try again...
 
Bide is EVIL early game. Not so much late game since you can normally KO it before 2 turns. Self-Destruct and Explosion are big killers of Pokemon too when you get to that point in the game.

yeahhh now that i've read up a bit on bide's mechanics, i fared much better against seedot this time around.

anyway, update #1:

I'm currently at the entrance of Petalburg Woods. So far, I haven't had any real notable close calls yet, nor have any of my four team-members died. I have caught my one Pokemon in Petalburg Woods, that being a Slakoth nicknamed Hershey. Right now, I'm a bit underleveled, so I am a bit concerned about the upcoming gym battle...it looks like I'll probably have to grind up a bit before I take on the gym leader.

no mons have died so far, and i have only paid 300 for the pokemon centers so far...but that number is going to rise dramatically very soon.
 
If you aren't level 15 or higher you are probably going to lose to Roxanne. Just evolve Mudkip and you should be fine to sweep her with just Marshtomp.
 
I'm curious as to why most people pick Mudkip (or just I see more people I guess). I started with Treecko on one file and had to restart later (so that's why I currently have Mudkip in my Ruby) but it's weird. I kinda want to start with Torchic now. Not only is it my favorite starter out of Hoenn, but it's also harder. If I can do HG with Chikorita, I know I can do Ruby with Torchic. :p

Well...I've decided to do a Nuzlocke on Heart Gold. Last time I tried one on Sapphire and Failed badly. I'm giving it another shot on a funner game, will keep you guys updated, Suggestions on Starter?

Started one in LeafGreen. Will be updating this post with the major events of my run.
My rules (other than the main two) are:
  • Duplicate captures are banned--if the first species encountered in an area has already been caught, that Pokémon may not be caught, and no other Pokémon in the area may be caught.
  • Trades, in-game or out-of game, are banned.
  • Pokémon Centers may only be used if you are within 50 steps of the center when you decide you need to use it.
  • Black outs/white outs are "game over," even if there are Pokémon left in the PC.
  • Only 5 healing items can be kept in the pack at a time.
  • Only 5 status healing items can be kept in the pack at a time.
  • Only 10 Poké Balls can be kept in the pack at a time.
  • Master Balls may not be used.
  • Pokémon may not be evolved, but evolved pokémon may be caught.
  • No catching of legendaries.
  • Legendaries must be killed if encountered.
  • Battle style must be ‘set’ rather than ‘shift.’


Progress:
  • Chose Squirtle as my starter:
    Tuzzle/Squirtle♂ Lv. 6
  • Got through Route 1 without encountering any Pokémon.
  • 3rd time through Route 1, encountered a wild Rattata as the first Pokémon. Accidentally killed it, no Route 1 Pokémon for me D:
  • On Route 22, encountered a wild Mankey as the first mon. Accidentally killed the Mankey with a critical hit. >_< No Route 22 Pokémon for me either.
  • Healed at the Pokémon Center.
  • Encountered a wild Pidgey on Route 2 as the first poké and caught it, finally adding a second mon to my team:

    Wyngs/Pidgey♂ Lv. 3
  • Healed at the center.
  • Encountered a Weedle in Viridian Forest as the first Pokémon. Caught it, adding a third Pokémon to my team:

    Fyuje/Weedle♀ Lv. 3
  • NO! D:

    I'm going to do some serious grinding, but even after that... I'm screwed against Brock.
