Hello all! Ever since SM has released, we have been granted with a boon of diversity that the ORAS metagame lacked. Probably the biggest reason behind this was the addition of Z-Crystals and their ability to make many moves that were once considered poor choices legitimate options for use on a moveset. These moves would even allow said Pokemon to either take out Pokemon it normally couldn't, or become immediately threatening set-up sweepers. This thread is for discussing how you feel about Z-crystals, how much you tend to have a Z-move user when building a team, which Pokemon has benefited most from Z-Crystal access, posting viable movesets of Z-move users, and discussing those movesets. There's also a thread for discussing the in-game and casual use of Z-Crystals for those that want a more relaxed discussion.

I for one think Z-Crystals are amazing, they've even made one of OU's best Pokemon even better, thanks to Grassium Z.

Heatran @ Grassium Z
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Solar Beam
- Taunt

This moveset can take out Chansey, fellow Heatran, and Water-types, all being the most popular answer to Heatran. Water-type Pokemon are new victims for Heatran however, as before Z-Crystals Heatran had nothing to hit them with, but now Solar Beam becomes a 190 BP Bloom Doom that eats Water-types up in a pinch! Magma Storm is the icing on the cake, as it allows Heatran to trap bulkier Water-types like Tapu Fini so you can cleanly KO them with Bloom Doom. The only Water-type you can't really hit is Toxapex, but that is why you have Earth Power as well.

This is currently my main Z-Move user in competitive play.

Arcanine (M) @ Electrium Z
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Close Combat
- Flare Blitz
- Wild Charge

Electrium Z/Gigavolt Havoc is such a nice Fini check as it is one of the more stubborn OU Pokes to take out. Max Attack means it's a guaranteed 2HKO after Gigavolt Havoc hits and Lefties recovery by Fini. Close Combat can 2HKO stuff like Heatran (which walls everything else Arcanine throws at it). The Defensive drops are not really the best, but it can't be helped. Toxapex is a bit of a tricky pivot into Arcanine. Wild Charge can 3HKO Toxapex; down to 2 if Gigavolt Havoc is used.

I like this one:

Volcarona @ Psychium Z
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Psychic
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain

Shattered Psyche beats everything that would normally beat Volcarona except for Heatran. Marowak-A, Charizards, Nihilego, Dragonite, Gyarados and more are all wrecked by the Z-move.

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Marowak-Alola: 351-414 (134.4 - 158.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 334-394 (112.4 - 132.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex: 330-390 (108.5 - 128.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Pex doesn't run max SpD usually but this just shows how hard it hits)

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Gyarados: 294-346 (88.8 - 104.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Dragonite: 294-346 (91 - 107.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 464-548 (129.2 - 152.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Zygarde: 306-360 (85.7 - 100.8%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock (Offensive Zygarde)

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 240 HP / 212+ SpD Zygarde: 226-267 (54.1 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock (SubCoil it's not as strong but still works if you can weaken it enough)

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 336-396 (93.8 - 110.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-Y: 260-307 (87.5 - 103.3%) -- 25% chance to OHKO
