Two Friends  by ShadowSong

“Dragonite, use Dragon Claw now, lets finish this match!” Dragonite’s trainer Sean yelled to him. Dragonite spread his wings and roared into the crystal blue sky, narrowly dodging an incoming ice beam; Sean almost had to lie on the ground in order not to be blown away by the air surges from his pokemon’s wings. Dragonite had evaded the attack just in time, he could almost fell its’ icy cold wrath upon his body, and a shiver ran up his spine, and the already weakened Vaporeon that had launched the attack hadn’t even noticed Dragonite’s disappearance and stared up towards the clouds, baffled. Below, the spectators in the bleachers screamed in excitement as Dragonite vanished into the cotton-white clouds, only leaving a flurry of sand and dust as proof of his being there. Slicing through the clouds, Dragonite climbed higher and higher until the battlefield stadium below was a microscopic rectangle on the ground. He halted only when he felt safe from the ongoing battle below. Dragonite hovered in the air for a few seconds, appreciating the beauty of the landscape that was so far beneath him. Then letting out a long reverberating roar into the heavens, Dragonite plummeted towards the Earth, eager to finish the battle. The enthusiasm swelled from the audience as the Dragonite raced towards them at a blinding speed, and the Vaporeon could feel the impending doom as the distance between it and the bullet-like pokemon decreased. Dragonite felt a spirited anxiousness grow inside him, waiting to be unleashed as the fury of a Dragon Claw. Dragonite let out another thundering bellow that seem to vibrate the stadium as he readied the attack, his talons glowed so that it looked like a small blue and silver fire enveloping claw. The Vaporeons’ eyes widened as he approached like a speeding bullet, ready for the battle-finishing blow. BOOM! Dragonite made impact with the Vaporeon, it was almost like an explosion the force was so great. After the dust cleared, a large crater was seen in the ground just as if a meteor had crashed down from space and impacted the ground, inside was the Vaporeon, knocked out unconscious. The referee then ran out onto the field and peered into the crater. “Vaporeon is unable to battle, Dragonite is the winner!” Outbursts of energy and cheer came from the crowd, celebrating Sean and Dragonite’s victory.
Sean then ran over to Dragonite and jumped onto his shoulders “Great job Dragonite, that was the best Dragon Claw I’ve ever seen!” Dragonite gave Sean an appreciative lick on the face. The manager came out to the field to congratulate them. “Well done Sean, this will give you and Dragonite your tenth straight victory here won’t it?”
“Yes sir, me and Dragonite will always be friends and a team, won’t we Dragonite?”
Dragonite gave them an agreeing howl.
“Well, here’s your trophy, I have a feeling we’ll see each other again very soon. Take care now.”

Sean took the trophy from his hands and with that, the manager walked off the field back to his work. Dragonite gave out a triumphant howl, and once again spread his wings and they soared into the sky, the golden trophy glittering and sparkling like morning dew on a flower. Sean and Dragonite were travelers, and never stayed in one place very long. Although, they would travel across the world to compete in the Sapphire Stadium, which is where they just departed from. The people there knew him and Dragonite from many competitions; they always cheered them on to victory. Sean was around five-eleven and wore informal garments. A white  windbreaker over a black short sleeve short along with a pair of dark blue jeans sufficed for Sean. A couple of olive green eyes laid upon his thin face, along with short dark-brown tousled hair on top of his head. Dragonite and Sean zoomed across the lush, green, treeless plains, bound for wherever their instincts took them. As they neared a large forest, Dragonite looked back at Sean, using the connection between them to tell him to hang on tight. Sean, even though not begin able to understand everything Dragonite told him, established a stronger hold on Dragonite with his knees and wrapped his arms around Dragonite’s neck, preparing for a thrill ride.

When they were no farther than eight meters from the forest, Dragonite abruptly swung him self into a straight up 90 degree angle, gaining speed as they soared upwards. Sean held on with all his might, trying hard not to be pulled off from Dragonite’s back by the force of the wind that was whistling past them. Once over the top of the forest, Dragonite unanticipatedly threw himself and Sean into a series of wild corkscrews and loops. Sean was at the same time terrified and excited, he would be happy when they landed.  Sean expected Dragonite to continue the never ending series of twists and turns, but for an odd reason, Dragonite halted. Looking to see why Dragonite stopped, Sean got the courage opened his eyes. He was also surprised at what he saw, even though they were still over the forest, he saw a single blinding white beam of light jutting out from the trees beneath them. Dragonite veered downward, curious about what source the light was coming from. He gave Sean an anxious glance, asking him what the light was. Dragonite plowed through the trees, breaking large branches off the surprisingly delicate limbs. Sean had to shield his eyes with his hand so the twigs and leaves would not scrape his face. Dragonite landed with a loud thump as they hit the forest floor, buffeting fragile trees from the airwaves. Sean felt dizzy as he slid off Dragonite’s back and landed on his hands on the soft dirt. After he recovered from the heart-throbbing flight, Sean slowly inched his way up off the ground. When Sean looked back at Dragonite to see if he was okay, Dragonite stood there, dumbstruck and at awe of the glowing light. He too stared in wonder at this mysterious object, the light cut through the forest top and still kept going, seeming to continue its journey to the heavens above. Sean started to walk over to the beam and reached out to touch it, but a large claw stopped him. Dragonite stood behind him and shook its head to tell Sean not to touch it. Dragonite pointed at himself then the mysterious light. Sean got the idea, he stepped back as Dragonite stepped forward. Dragonite then tapped the light with his claw, and pulling it back quickly. Nothing. Dragonite then out his whole hand into the light, then eventually his whole body. Sean stood, perplexed as the tip of Dragonite’s tail phased through the beam. Sean then heard a friendly howl from Dragonite. Sean gulped and stepped forward to the beam. Sean closed his eyes and stepped through.

As Sean opened his eyes, he gasped in amazement. A beautiful field lay before them. Butterfree’s wings sparkled in the sky, and playful Mightyena raced across the fields, chasing each other. Plus many many more species of Pokemon enjoyed the clear skies, lush grasses, and colorful flowers. Sean gaped at the place. He smiled at all the Pokemon, they looked so happy. Just as Dragonite and Sean stepped forward, they saw a blinding glow from the corner of their eyes. They turned and saw a group of 3 Shelgons grew larger and larger. They were evolving. Then, in a burst of speed and light, Salamences raced into the skies, giving cries of happiness and spouting flames into the clouds. Both friends watched as the Salamence’s celebrated their evolution, in jubilant glory. It was an hour before the Salamence’s disappeared out of sight, and the two got up and explored the area. They came to an ocean, which was just as beautiful as the plains. The ocean sparkled with delight, as the Pokemon swam with pleasure and play. Sean took his shoes off and waded into the water, Dragonite following. Sean found a rock, that was big enough for both of them to sit on. Lapras splashed each other and Squirtle raced one another to a rock. Then, Sean saw a looming figure in the water. Seconds later, they were gaping at a large pink Kyogre leaping out of the water and making waves as it landed back in, it was just a yard away from them too. Sean put his shoes back on and they made a camp on the beach, turning in for the night.

The next morning, Sean woke up with a startled cry from Dragonite. Sean shook off the morning sleep and gazed at a crying Dragonite. “What’s wrong Dragonite?” Then Sean saw. The whole field was gone. Where trees were, there were charred stumps, and the plains were nothing but dirt. The water also looked as if it was polluted.  Then a unfamiliar voice spoke. “What are YOU doing here” Both turned and saw what they never expected to see. The manager of the Sapphire Stadium.
“What happened here?” Sean demanded.
“I destroyed it of course, I despise this place.”
“Why would you destroy such a wonderful land?”
“That is not your business boy!”
“I’ll show you to destroy Pokemon’s homes, let’s battle!”
“Of course.” Said the manager with a chuckle.
“Dragonite, lets go!” Dragonite let out a furious roar and spread his wings.
“Fine, let’s just make this a 1 on 1, whoever loses must leave never to return”
“Fine by me”
Then the manager was about to let loose a pokeball when a crash of thunder was heard. They looked up and saw a dark figure zooming towards them. Seconds later, the figure whistled between the two and disappeared. Then, a light appeared between them, blinding all.
“You won’t take me back to the void, I won’t let you!” the manager screamed.
Sean saw that he was being sucked into the portal.
“Dragonite, push him in, let’s free this place” On command, Dragonite shoved him into the portal, and Dragonite saw that it was just a black nothingness in there, there was nothing. The portal closed, and another one opened. The beam of light. Then, the Kyogre they saw earlier appeared on shore and to surprise spoke.
“You must go before the portal closes, that is about 2 minutes, do not wonder why I speak, you must go now”
“What about this place, will it come back?”
“Only with the help of an outside Pokemon can do that, one with a pure heart.”
Sean looked at Dragonite, then the ruined fantasy land. “Dragonite, you have to stay”
Dragonite gave Sean a quizzical look. “You have to help rebuild this place Dragonite, it needs you.” Dragonite knew Sean would not change his mind, Dragonite nodded in agreement. “I’ll miss you Dragonite, but maybe we’ll see each other again someday” Sean hugged Dragonite, and looked at him one last time and went through the portal. “Goodbye Dragonite” Then Dragonite made a sound he had never made before, and it sounded like “Oodeye Sean” Sean fell to the other side, and the portal closed. Maybe someday…
