RE: Community Team - Teammate Discussion - Ferrothorn or Jirachi

Ferrothorn provides a more stable Electric resistance and is able to prevent the team from auto-losing to offensive Starmie, Rotom-W and Lum Berry Dragons. I'm not really sure what to say as it's more or less a no brainer. :p

RE: Community Team - Teammate Discussion - Ferrothorn or Jirachi

Easiest choice in the history of this thing. xP

So the team is:

SubDD Dragonite
Defensive Politoed
Rapid Spin Starmie
SubCharge Magnezone
Standard Ferrothorn

For the final time, let's see what we can come up with to fill the final spot.

I would really want to see another dragon to use the advantage that Magnezone brings. Latios is probably the best choice because it gets 3 STAB attacks in the rain and can hit hard.

Wait, wait. What are the movesets here? What is standard Ferrothorn running? Is Magnezone still using HP Fire even in rain? etc etc

Right now, the sets imply the first option on all the sets (so yeah, HP Fire on Magnezone, Spikes and Gyro Ball on Ferrothorn, etc). The next phase will involve making our own changes to moves and team members.

RE: Community Team - Teammate Discussion - Who will the final member be?

Right, got you. That officially makes team PB something along the lines of...

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Nature: Careful
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 16 SDef / 160 Spe
Moves:
~Substitute
~Dragon Dance
~Dragon Claw
~Roost

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SpA / 220 Spe
Moves:
~Substitute
~Charge Beam
~Hidden Power Fire
~Thunderbolt

Starmie @ Leftovers
Nature: Timid
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Moves:
~Rapid Spin
~Surf
~Thunderbolt
~Recover

Politoed @ Leftovers
Nature: Bold
Ability: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
~Scald
~Hypnosis
~Encore
~Protect

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
~Spikes
~Leech Seed
~Gyro Ball
~Power Whip

Things that stand out to me:

- Blissey is virtually impossible to break through without having to rely upon the status fearing Dragonite. A simple core of Slowbro and Blissey could be extremely difficult to manage.
- No true answer to Conkeldurr. Other fighters such as Terrakion and Mienshao could probably do with an answer outside of Starmie.
- There are many bulky set-up Pokemon who can take advantage of the team's passive nature. Rain CM Jirachi, Reuniclus, and the previously mentioned Conkeldurr come to mind.

Although we haven't discussed the specifics of the standard movesets, I think there are two things which are more or less clear: Politoed needs Perish Song in order to deal with stubborn bulky stat boosters and Baton Pass chains, and Ferrothorn needs Stealth Rock.

As far as the final team member goes, I think it's probably going to be something like Specs Latios, who can use Trick to cripple defensive cores, puts pressure on the Steels that neither Magnezone nor Dragonite can beat (Heatran, Shed Shell mons), and also benefits from Magnezone. It's fast enough to provide additonal insurance VS Mienshao and Terrakion. Also likes the boosted Surf to break through Steels too I guess.

/me grabs the defibrillator and gives it to this thread.

The two big front-runners are Latios and Reuniclus.

Some current problems:

-Blissey is a pain to take down, with no physical attackers outside of Dragonite. Though admittedly, bringing in Dragonite against a predicted Seismic Toss and then using Substitute to avoid status can help set up at least one Dragon Dance.
-Fighting types are a pain, especially Conkeldurr.
-Toxicroak is a royal annoyance.

I'm going to nominate Reuniclus with Psyshock, because it can take down Blissey, stall out Toxicroak's Sucker Punch PP and is a solid check to Conkeldurr with its bulk.

Reuniclus definitely over Latios. The CM varient, obviously. Toxicroak watches helplessly as Reuniclus sets up CM's on on sucker punches, Blissey gets murdered by Psyshock, and once it gets enough CM's off pretty much everything get's murdered by Psyshock. Reuniclus is simply a great Pokemon, even with the prevalence of Scizor in today's metagame. Magnezone wrecks Scizor anyway.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot to confirm my vote.

Vote: Reuniclus

We've got 3 votes for Reuniclus and two for Latios. If Reuniclus gets a fourth vote, it'll be the final teammate.

Vote Reuniclus
Reuniclus feels like the best check/counter to all the major threats. However, I think we should run Psychic over Psyshock. With Recover and Magic Guard, Reuniclus can just set up to +6 on Blissey and kill it, so Psyshock is unnecessary, has 10 less BP, and leaves Reuniclus open to Taunt Gliscor.

Alright, we got Reuniclus.

And with that, let's get testing. The team will be complete in the OP shortly. If you make any changes, please report them here.

So after playing around a bit, I made a few changes that seem to work well. I noticed that things like Hydreigon, Reuniclus, and Scrafty were pretty big threats. I covered this by giving Starmie Ice Beam over Thunderbolt to hit Hydreigon. Sure T-Bolt is nice for Jellicent, but it's better than being swept by Hydreigon when we can handle Jellicent well enough as it is. I also replaced Reuniclus with Spiritomb to counter Reuniclus and check Scrafty better. This is the set I've been using:
Spiritomb (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
While Spiritomb loses Calm Mind and Recover, it gains better Defensive typing and Offensive coverage in addition to spreading Burns with WOW. These two Pokemon have the same bulk, IIRC, and what Spiritomb loses in Offense, it makes up for by preventing the team from being swept by Scrafty and Reuniclus. I have 31/31/30/30/30/10 IVs to lower Speed to get hurt less by Conkeldurr Payback and still have 70 BP HP Fighting.

Some more changes I made were mostly personal preference changes. I gave Politoed Toxic and Refresh over Encore and Hypnosis because I prefer the status healing of Refresh and the better accuracy/not having to deal with Sleep Clause/hurting Gastrodon/etc more of Toxic.

I gave Magnezone HP Ice and Ferrothorn SR over HP Fire and Spikes like anyone else should to a Rain team lacking SR.

Couple of changes I've made:

Switching Magnezone's Hidden Power Fire to Hidden Power Ice.

I also swapped Reuniclus for ProtectSD Gliscor, because Terrakion is a total pain.

Terrakion became a pain, so I replaced Starmie with Claydol. Starmie wasn't doing much that Claydol and Spiritomb couldn't handle. Now I have room for Ferrothorn to set up Spikes and Claydol can have SR. My current version of the team:
Politoed (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Protect
- Refresh

Ferrothorn (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

Dragonite (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 16 SDef / 160 Spd
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw
- Roost

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Trait: Magnet Pull
EVs: 36 HP / 252 SAtk / 220 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Charge Beam
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

Claydol @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Ice Beam

Spiritomb (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
