The best deck in history during its time was Sableye donk during the MD-BW format where the rules changed to where you can play Trainers on turn 1. This would measure plenty of respectable arguments:

1) Spiritomb AR

Of course, it was great, but Sableye still had measurable counters to it: Cyclone Energy was one, and Crobat G drops to KO with Overconfidence was another.

2) Heavy HP Pokemon flooding the opponents bench

This was almost a rare sight, but it was beatable. You saved your 1 Seeker until you get to the very end of the turn when your opponent had only 2 in play. You play each Pokemon 1 at a time, but use Spiritomb LA near the beginning after spreading 1 on everything with Crobat G's. This causes you to make less of a misplay, and in turn, this helps you decide which course of action is necessary. The right build could take apart plenty of these decks.

3) Arceus

This was the most annoying matchup for Sableye donk, but was slightly winnable. You had to Seeker early vs. 5 or 6 Arceus. You also had to make almost zero misplays to win this match-up, yet it was very unpopular regardless.

So in the eyes of one of the best rogue players in the game, Sableye donk still has to get the award for best deck ever in its format.

BUT, as far as unlimited goes, Sableye would have more counters, but would easily have more options too. Sableye could very easily win the award for best deck ever in unlimited too.

My opinion, though.{F}{R}{L}{G}{W}{P}{D}{M}{C}
