11/3/09: Nidoqueen (Rising Rivals)
PokéBeach Card of the Day Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Nidoqueen (Rising Rivals 30/111)
Today's card is the healing Nidoqueen. What potential do you see in this card now that Gengar might be played more? Discuss! Double header Card of the Days to make up for yesterday!

Thanks
Nidoqueen has and always will be a great card. Not only because of its body (which is good in -almost- any stage 2 deck that you want to stay alive for a while, if not to charge it up then to abuse some disruption that it might cause), but because its attacks aren't actually that bad. 40 for 1? That's great, especially if you play Psychic energy (which you do in Gengar). In Flygon this thing is amazing and essential (in almost any variant you decide to play, FlyChamp, FlyStall, whatever) for the survivability it gives. It can also serve as a pretty good backup attacker I guess. In other decks, however, I don't see this card used as much as you would think. It seems to mostly shine in Gengar, Flygon, and maybe even sometimes Garchomp. It's what a teach should be, though. It provides great support and the ability to attack and do decent damage. Ruthless Tail is pretty cool, if you can charge it up possibly with a Psychic and an Upper energy. Definitely helps against spread decks and things that deal special conditions or small damage at small periods of time but build up after a bit. I'll be honest, though, this thing is such a good tech that I would play him in almost any deck where I want my main attacker to survive (like Tangrowth!). Great card, good Card of the Day choice ;D

First post! Ah Nidoqueen, the tech that can be teched in any deck. An automatic potion for a round of turns for free is fantastic. Plus, for 1, it does 40. Thats awesome. Attach more energy for a mega beatdown late game. I <3 this card.
Modified: 10/10 So many things can use it, it is so adaptive, even in a 1-0-1 line
Limited: 9.5-10/10 What cant use a little healing? The hp of pokemon only gets smaller as you go back in time, so that little bit of healing can help A LOT.
Edit: Ninja'd. Darn.

RE: 11/3/09: Nidoqueen (Rising Rivals)
Today's second CotD is Nidoqueen from Rising Rivals. Being home to 120HP, that's a wee bit below the average HP stage-2's have. Weakness to Psychic is calling out Gengar, and no resistance is common. Three retreat, however, is a total pushover. Cost is too high! Nidoqueen's Poke Body is why she sees some play. Maternal Comfort removes one damage counter from each of your Pokemon in between turns. That totals up to removing 20 damage. Pretty good, and really stops spread decks flat. Mega Punch does 40 for one, and no other effect. Ruthless Tail does 50 for three (a high cost, I must say) and 10 more damage for each of your opponent's benched Pokemon. That could lead to 100 for three. Still good.
Modified: 8/10 (Healing is the main reason why Nidoqueen sees play. Other than that, only decent.)
Limited: 9/10 (Get her out, and 40 for one+heal will just dominate the game.)

The second CotD is Nidoqueen. It's my favourite tech besides Dusknoir DP, because it gives you like an autowin against spread decks and also decks like Kingdra, Gengar or anything with a low damage output will fail against her. Having 120HP is a little bit below the average, but it's still pretty good since there are stage 2's with lower hit points like Gengar. She's weak to Psychic types which may hurt against Uxie and her three retreat costs are just awful. Having a lightning resistance is just great, added the the healing ability Luxray GL don't even have a chance to get rid of the Queen. Her Poké-Body Maternal Comfort allows you to heal all of your Pokémon by 10 damage between the turns..everytime! That's simply amazing since you don't have to pay anything for it, problem is the body doesn't stack, but that'd be to good. Her first attack 'Mega Punch' does a solid damage for one energy, pretty good to kill some already weakened Pokémon. The Queen's second attack 'Ruthless Tail' does 50 damage for three energies, you may think it isn't that good, but this damage output is increased by 10 points for each of your opponent's benched Pokémon so you can easily score up to 100 damage, pretty high! I'll give Nidoqueen 8,5/10 points, she's a powerfull tech, especially in decks with high HP Pokémon and maybe in metal decks.

Killer deck = Nidoqueen(RR), Nidoking(RR), and Machamp SF with a reckless Nidoking attacking away, and Nidoqueen doing adequate damage with Tons o' healing, and you know what Machamp does by now.
