The GC* deck - Remote_Perception - 03-16-2006 12:56 AM

While looking at the Miracle crystal set spoiler, Swampert caught my eye. I loved its poke-power which would combo well with lugia and holon circle. But then I saw delcatty ex. When I saw it I was thinking, “how in the world will this be useful, when it would be impossible to get all the energies in the discard pile.” Then it hit me. The answer was not an ordinary pokemon, but a pokemon* and this pokemon is GYRADOS*!!! now here it is.

Skitty x3 (MC)
Delcatty ex x3 (MC)
Gyarados* x1 (HP)
Mawile x4 (MC)
Pokemon x11

Fire Energy x22
Energy x22

Crystal Beach x4
Holon Transceiver x3
Holon Scientist x1
Holon Farmer x2
Holon Mentor x1
Mary’s Request x4
Tv Reporter x3
Fluff Berry x2
PETM x3
(trainer x2)
Trainer x27

Strategy: Use mawile to get ready for holon engine. If I have at least 5-8 energies in the discard by the time delcatty ex is set up I use its upstream. Then retreat/switch to gyarados* and use final burn retreat (with fluff berry) then use upstream, etc… need help with trainer and set up. Thanks

Here are some spoilers
Delcatty ex - Colorless – HP90
Stage 1

Poke-Power: Limitation
You can use this power once during your turn. Each player discards cards from his or her hand until they only have 6 cards left. (You discard first). You can’t use this power if Delcatty ex is affected by a Special Condition.

[C] Upstream: Does 10 damage X the number of Energy Cards in your discard pile. Then, remove all Energy Cards from your discard pile, show them to your opponent, and shuffle them back into your deck.
[C][C][C] Tail Slap: 60 damage.

Weakness: Fighting
Resistance: none
Retreat: none

Mawile - Steel – HP60
Basic Pokemon

[C] Mining: Search your deck for a Trainer card, show it to your opponent, and put it in your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. If the card you chose is a Pokemon Tool card, attach it to 1 of your Pokemon.
[M][C] Bite Off: 20 damage. If the Defending Pokemon is Pokemon-ex, this attack does 20 damage + 30 more damage.

Weakness: Fire
Resistance: Grass
Retreat: 1

Crystal Beach – Trainer – Stadium

All Special Energy cards that provide 2 or more energy instead provide 1 Colorless energy, and Poke-Powers or Poke-Bodies can't change this effect.

Gyarados * (d) - Fire - HP80
Basic

[R][C] Spiral Growth: 20 damage. Flip a coin until you get tails. For each heads, search your discard pile for an Energy card and attach it to Gyarados *.
[R][R][R][R] Finish Burn: Discard cards from the top of your deck until you only have 1 remaining. This attack does 50 damage + 20 more damage for each Energy card discarded in this way.

Weakness: Lightning
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

RE: The GC* deck - kravenace - 03-16-2006 01:44 AM

well you can't reatreat after you use finish burn...... and next turn you will need to draw the last card.... means u lose...means u will be deck out......... all * pokemon with finish something in their attack is very risky 2 use.... think first before u post..
[DoK] not me Big Grin

RE: The GC* deck - PMJ - 03-16-2006 02:33 AM

Fluffy Berry lets Gyarados * retreat for free. The idea is to switch it with Delcatty ex and use "Upstream" to put all those discarded Energy back into your deck. It's a decent strategy if you can get Gyarados * charged quickly, but once he dies you'll have to stall until you can get him back with Pokémon Retriever.

And if he ends up being a Prize, you pretty much lose.

RE: The GC* deck - kravenace - 03-16-2006 04:14 AM

in any way he uses finish burn he loses next turn... unless... delcatty ex is already on the bench and and he has exactly 6 cards... so he won't draw because of limitation... nvr tot of that... correct me if im wrong

RE: The GC* deck - Abhorsen - 03-16-2006 05:13 AM

There is 1 card which owns this deck. All you have to do is use Gyarados* once. Your opponent simply plays Admin, if you have less cards in your hand than prizes, then you lose on your next turn since you cant draw. You Really gotta watch out for Admin and more people are playing now for some strange reason...

RE: The GC* deck - Kirlia7755 - 03-16-2006 05:53 AM

kravenace- you have it wrong. You lose only if at start of turn cannot draw, not if draw last card. The Del-dos combo works well.

RE: The GC* deck - ArmaldoEX - 03-16-2006 06:15 AM

Not a good idea. EVer heard of FIELDWORKER!!!!!!!!!! ADMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They really wil kick yr grass

RE: The GC* deck - Abhorsen - 03-16-2006 06:36 AM

They MAY draw a card with Fieldworker. It's not forced.

RE: The GC* deck - escata - 03-16-2006 07:06 AM

Gyarados * is better as a plan 2. Except for Swampert ex, I found no other way to charge it quickly.Sad The eeveelutions maybe...together with energy switch...I think there is room to use a Flareon ex + Full flame or a Flareon UF in this deck... but I had no time to think about it.

Add some boost energy for delcatty and instead of using PETM, use wally's training. 60 damage (turn 1 after wally) is possible with a boost energy if you don't have a mawile in play yet. Gyarados* adds damage with any energy and upstream works with any energy too.

Remove crystal beach since there is boost energy and put another gym. Giant stump is cool.

In this case, the energy should be 18 fire and 4 boost. If you ever attack with gyarados*, 4 will be on it, 2, maybe in your other pokemon and consider 2 in the prizes. 13 energy usually available if not more. Use Delcatty upstream before attacking so all 14 energy will be on your deck. When attacking with gyarados: 50 + 140 = 190, 180 if the last card left happens to be an energy card or 170 if you have drawn an energy card that turn. (you probably have already though about that Big Grin)

Holon adventurer won't be better than TV, but you can reuse it with holon transceiver.Smile

Important card: Energy recycle system. Next gyarados's attack will surely cause 70 damage if you used 1 ERS or 100 if you used 2. Good if you need to KO your opponent and have no chance to use Delcatty's ex upstream next turn.

Energy switch is to save energy from pokémon you know will be KOed like Mawiles. Transfer the energy to a Gyarados* in play.

Skitty x4 (MC)
Delcatty ex x3 (MC)
Gyarados* x1 (HP)
Mawile x 4 (MC)
Pokemon x12

Fire Energy x18
Boost energy x4
Energy x 22

Giant stump x 4
Holon Transceiver x3
Holon Farmer x 2
Holon scientist x1
Holon Mentor x1
Mary’s Request x 4
Holon adventurer (Holom Phantom) x 3
Wally's training x3
Fluffy Berry x 3
Energy swich x 3
Energy recycle system x 2
Trainer x30

No problem with rocket's admin either: rotated when MC is released Smile

RE: The GC* deck - kravenace - 03-16-2006 07:45 AM

nonono guys... Finish Burn really has to be the final attack coz you discard from the top of your deck until you only have 1 left right?! lets get it this way... you attack finish burn... theres only one card left on your deck.. as of the rules every turn you must draw a card.... so deck out.... no card can stop it... even delcatty ex's limitation coz.. it says discard a card... not to not draw a card... if you use finish burn it really has to be the finishing...

RE: The GC* deck - Elg - 03-16-2006 08:18 AM

You really don't understand?

In the beginning of your turn, if you cant draw (Note: it doesn't say: "if you draw your last card") You lose the game. So, with delcatty ex, you can get all energys in the discard pile back in your deck.

RE: The GC* deck - zwelgbelg - 03-16-2006 08:36 AM

and if really neccecery you could use a pokémon retriever to put 3 pokémon back into your deck. so you can go on a little more time If they let's say: used warppoint to put delcatty ex in front and disables his upstream...
But remember! if gyarados* is your 6th price, this deck is totally doomed!
I hope better combo's show up in the future so this card will be playable...

RE: The GC* deck - dark guy - 03-16-2006 10:44 AM

what about slowking from delta spieces it alowes you to swits 1 of your prizes with one of cards in your deck so the deck isnt doomed if gyaradoes* is in your prizes

RE: The GC* deck - escata - 03-16-2006 11:10 AM

Interesting! Slowking could solve the problem of the prizes!

Attach a rainbow (or multi, even better) and slowking could attack 40 and discard opponent's special energy card, but he is not going to be used to attack, unless to kill a water weak pokémon with 80 HP left.

I think 2 Slowpoke and 2 Slowking will do. In 6 turns maximum, if gyarados * is in the prize, it's power could retrieve it. And energy cards in the prize could be retrieved too!

4 cards needed, so take out 1 mawile, 1 stadium and 2 other trainers. Switch 4 fire energy to 4 multi energy.

RE: The GC* deck - Remote_Perception - 03-17-2006 12:59 AM

hmmm yeah i was thinking of slowking as well and i think i will put it here. but i think i will stick with rainbow instead of multi. Oh yeah one more thing gyardos * final burn does 50 =20 for each energy discarded. so what do you think the decklist shoud be?

oh ya, can u guys rate this deck?

RE: The GC* deck - Lionheart - 03-17-2006 01:16 AM

Well, one overplayed card will hurt this deck...Rocket's Admin.

-,- i know delca ex can put all energies in back 2 your deck.... Big Grin lol i mistunderstood d rules.. Toungue even do i've been playing since d base set i always tot that u lose when there s no cards left in ur deck Toungue my bad lol

lets say u have 30 energiez.... dats.. 50+[20x30] = 650... so u upstreammm datz....... HuMmM...... 300... it only has very good firepower and good against hi hp Pokémon lyk wailord ex... but dis combo is very hard 2 do since both of ur main attackers have very low hp nd u can only put 1 gyara* in ur deck..
dis deck is good.... if you're very lucky... almost all rouge and tech decks can repel dis combo.... this won't win worldz... truzt me...

RE: The GC* deck - escata - 03-17-2006 07:30 AM

Oh my god!!

It's 50 + 20, not 50 + 10 as as thought! *impressed*

Much better than! It will be an instant KO almost everytime you use it. If you discard 3 energy = 110 damage, 2 energy = 90 damage...

With this new information, I would add to the deck 2 more ERS and would use a lot mawile's attack to bring them to my hand before attacking with gyarados*, so they wouldn't be discarded in the attack. Next turn it won't even be necessary to use delcatty's ex upstream.

Rocket's admin will be rotated soon, so, better to build this deck after worlds Wink

The main preocupation now is to make gyarados * survive after he attacks so it can attack again.

I though of fire dance from flareon UF for charging Gyarados* quickily, but didn't find room in the deck...

RE: The GC* deck - dragon master - 03-17-2006 09:11 AM

too many energy try to reduce it to 16

RE: The GC* deck - Remote_Perception - 03-17-2006 03:36 PM

dragon master- I need a lot of energy so that i can do major damage.

Can you guys rate the deck? thnx. And thnx so far for the help.

Isn't energy switch FrLg? so wouldn't that mean it isn't modified anymore?

RE: The GC* deck - Holy Star - 03-17-2006 04:32 PM

You can play close to 18 Energy and have room for more Trainers. You can then play the Slowking line.

One thing I don't like about the setup is that a Windstorm will discard the Fluffy Berry that you can search for with Mawhile.

RE: The GC* deck - POLOP - 03-17-2006 07:00 PM

Yes, here comes team rocket would be a great addition to this deck - never get stuck with gyarados* in your prizes.
ALthough if it is in your prizes, the you still need to ko a pokemon to pick it.
But still, it should be in the deck.

RE: The GC* deck - Remote_Perception - 03-17-2006 07:22 PM

that is why slowking is there. but by the time miracle crystal comes out here comes team rocket is long gone (sigh)

RE: The GC* deck - Holy Star - 03-17-2006 10:20 PM

As far as the Slowpoke goes, use the UF Slowpoke. If your Gyrados* is knocked out, you can use it's attack for a [C] to get a Basic, an Evolution, or a Basic Energy and put it in your hand. Nice to restart the process, although it is very slow. I still think that you should have more Fluffy Berry, and definitely some Drifter to search for it (and then some).

RE: The GC* deck - DocRobot_K-176 - 03-17-2006 11:37 PM

I wouldn't worry too much about Rocket's Admin. For now, just only use the Shining δ Gyarados as a last resort (which is what it is best at). Once Worlds comes and goes (Modified format becomes EX: DX on or EX: EM on), Rocket's Admin won't be a big threat. At that point, Shining δ Gyarados can probably be used as a secondary attacker.

We can only really speculate what decks can possibly be made. We only know a few cards that are going to be reprinted (Rare Candy, Dual Ball etc.); we don't know what other cards will be reprinted, since there are different cards in many sets when they are here in the U.S. than when they were printed in Japan. We don't even know what standard shuffling cards we will have at our disposal.

There is still another risk though that will contine to break this combo down. Some Pokémon (Tyranitar-ex, Camerupt-ex, etc) have the ability to discard the top card of your deck. If that attack is used, the game is over because there will be no cards left for you to draw on your next turn.

I still would limit Shining δ Gyarados' role to that of a secondary or final attacker, as it is meant to be. I like Shining δ Gyarados; it has the potential to deliver a good finishing blow to just about any monster. What makes it even better is the fact that it is a δ Species monster. [Holon Lake] can search for it with relative ease.

Maybe δ Primeape could be used as a good attacker since it has Flames of Rage (old school!). You could then use the N:G Ferali... er... Delcatty-ex to do a lot of damage and return the energies back to the deck.

RE: The GC* deck - Abhorsen - 03-17-2006 11:52 PM

Yes, Admin will be cycled out which means that problem is solved. However, if Gyarados* cannot retreat then how do you recover the cards with Delcatty ex? Then you draw your card, with no other cards in your deck and unless you have switch or warp point, then you'll lose next turn. You could say that Fluffy Berry is used to solve this which is why it is listed, but what if Gyarados* is clutched by Pidgeot? And i am sure there are other pokemon that have effects which stop retreating, therefore, you lose. All your opponent has to do is keep a Pidgeot on the bench ready with a DRE or whatever and Clutch. I would put at least 2 Switchs/Warp points in here just incase...

RE: The GC* deck - Holy Star - 03-18-2006 07:14 AM

This is true, and is something to worry about. Some Switch/Warp Point are a good idea, and with Mawhile's Mining, can be easily obtained. However, unless you don't draw into them or search for them, the Switches/Warp Points you don't have in your hand are gone when you use Gyrados*.

As far as Tyranitar-ex and Camerupt-ex go, hopefully you're knocking out that Pokemon to solve the problem.

RE: The GC* deck - Remote_Perception - 03-18-2006 06:15 PM

Camerupt and tyranitar ex aren't that used anyways...are they?
Pidgeot is gone by the time it is made...also made a change to the decklist took of 2 wally for 2 warp point. what set is warp point in? the latest?
