Chapter 18 - Time for Operation: Orangepeel

Ruben decided to head South from Lavender Town. The route was a small dock nestled on a body of water. There were Fisherman a plenty on the route; sending out their fleet of aquatic Pokemon at Ruben, only for them to be quickly dispatched by DaveBlaney the Jolteon and Petrocetti the Kadabra.

Eventually, Ruben came across a giant sleeping Pokemon. This large creature was called a Snorlax and was a green-ish blue colored cat-like Pokemon with a large cream-colored spot on its stomach. It was sleeping contently, nothing Ruben could do would wake it up....except Ruben just remembered that Poke Flute he got from Mr. Fuji. He pulled it out and began to play. The tune was a peaceful one to Ruben's ears but a rather unsettling one to the Snorlax's ears. The Snorlax began to twitch and tremble as it cried out and thrust-ed Ruben into battle.

Ruben sent out Evan, his Charizard. Charizard emitted a powerful stream of fire and was eager to test his mettle against the wild Snorlax. Snorlax and Evan traded blows. However, as Ruben readied a Ball to catch Snorlax, Snorlax used Rest. In an instant; Snorlax fell asleep and was completely healed. However, the Snorlax had a Chesto Berry tucked away somewhere and its effect activated. Snorlax got away, scot free with a free heal. Ruben gritted his teeth and Evan was ordered to charge at the Snorlax. Again, the two traded blows. Ruben decided to swap Evan out with Pi Fighter as Evan was getting increasingly tired from the fight.

Ruben checked his Bag and saw he had a few Great Balls. Great Balls were light-blue colored Poke Balls with two red stripe-like bumps on the top of the device. He decided to begin to toss Great Balls at it. The first two failed, the wild Snorlax breaking out without the Ball rocking once. The third however...

1 shake, 2 shakes, 3 shakes...CLICK! Snorlax was caught. The Ball disappeared and Ruben's Pokedex emitted its statement,

"Snorlax's data was added to the Pokedex." Ruben's Pokedex stated as Ruben checked the data which flashed upon the screen.

"Snorlax, the Sleeping Pokemon.

It is not satisfied unless it eats 880 pounds of food every day. When it is done eating, it promptly goes to sleep."

"Let's see, a nickname for you would be Orangepeel."[/i] Ruben said, punching a combination into the Pokedex. He decided to head back to Lavender and then onto Celadon.

Ruben realized he had not gone into the grass on Route 7 and did so; he encountered a wild Oddish and sent out Starlight, his Clefairy. Two Secret Powers landed, and despite a Poison Powder from the wild Oddish, Ruben decided to toss a Poke Ball at it.

1 shake, 2 shakes, 3 shakes...CLICK! Oddish was caught. The Poke Ball vanished.

"Oddish's data was added to the Pokedex." the Pokedex stated as the data flashed on screen.

"Oddish, the Weed Pokemon.

It's scientific name is "Oddium Wanderus." At night, it is said to walk nearly 1,000 feet on its two roots."

"A good nickname for you is Radish." Ruben stated, punching a combination into the Pokedex. He darted back to Celadon to heal. Route 16, to the immediate west of Celadon had another grass patch Ruben did not check. In this patch of grass he encountered a wild Doduo. Doduo is a peculiar bird creature. It is a brown-furred creature with two heads and no wings; yet can Fly and is classified as a Flying-type. Starlight was sent out. The two traded blows before Ruben tossed another Poke Ball.

1 shake, 2 shakes, 3 shakes...CLICK! Doduo was caught. The Poke Ball vanished.

"Doduo's data was added to the Pokedex." the Pokedex stated. Ruben grabbed his Pokedex and checked the data which flashed on screen.

"Doduo, the Twin Bird Pokemon.

A two-headed POKéMON that was discovered as a sudden mutation. It runs at a pace of over 60 miles per hour."

"Well...how about Deltadodo?" Ruben said out loud to himself, "That can work." He then punched in a combination into his Pokedex. However, instead of backtracking to the Snorlax, he decided to head west again, through a secret passage. He found a house where a young woman was staying with her Fearow.

"Oh, I had no idea you came to see me." she said, "I bought this house for the sole purpose of quiet and security."

"Please take this, and please don't tell anyone you saw me." the woman handed Ruben a sky-blue colored disc.
"That is HM02, Fly." she stated, "If you have the Gym Badge from Vermilion, you can use that move to Fly to any city you've previously been to." Ruben wasted no time teaching Fly to Pi Fighter.

Ruben then decided to put Evan back in front and decided to battle the wild Snorlax, again having to wake it up via the Poke Flute. The wild Snorlax attacked in a grumpy rage, much like the other Snorlax Ruben battled.

The battle went much like the first one. Evan dealt a lot of damage; Snorlax did the same to Evan. Snorlax used Rest and got a free full heal. Evan however, was not going to go quietly into the night. He was going to take out the wild Snorlax. And when he did, he gave a roar of triumph and expelled a stream of blistering hot fire. The Snorlax disappeared, saying that the Snorlax got tired and went back into the mountains. Ruben paid it no mind, and went back to the Pokemon Center to heal. The both ways to Fuchsia are clear as he checked his Map; his next choice was to decide which path to take to reach it.

Chapter 19 - It's a Constant, Unending Bicycle of Torment

Ruben decided to head west from Celadon City. However, as he attempted to head through the gate, he was stopped by a guard.
"Halt!" he exclaimed, "Do you have a Bicycle?"
"Uh...no..." Ruben replied, "I don't."
"Then you cannot pass...Cycling Road is too dangerous for foot traffic." the Guard stated, "Come back when you have a Bike." And like that, Ruben was ushered out of the gate.

He decided to find out where he can get a Bike. He attempted to head to Cerulean, where he found the Bike Shop. However, the man at the front desk was asking for ab obscene amount; 1 million Pokedollars. Ruben's jaw dropped. How on earth could someone get 1 million Pokedollars?

However, he decided to head down to Vermilion, for some reason. Ruben was not quite sure; but he felt like there'd be an answer to his Bike problem down there.

In Vermilion there was a building called the Pokemon Fan Club. It's a building where Pokemon fanatics come from all over Kanto to discuss how much they like Pokemon. There were two Trainers, a boy and a girl having a passionate discussion. The female Trainer had a Seel, and the male Trainer had a Pikachu. The female Trainer boasted about her Seel's adorable sound when she hugs it. The male Trainer retorted however, that is Pikachu was twice as cute. Acting as a mediator of sorts was a young adult lady, and sitting next to her was an elderly gentleman looking on in quiet awe. Ruben approached him and he explained he was the Pokemon Fan Club Chairman. Ruben was asked if he liked Pokemon.
"Yeah, I love Pokemon!" Ruben exclaimed. The man put his hand on his shoulder and began a long spiel about his favorite Pokemon, Rapidash.

Ruben's look quickly changed as he looked on in trepidation as the spiel continued...and continued...and continued...

Eventually, the gentleman stopped.
"Here, take this." the man said, handing Ruben a slip of paper.
"That's a Bike Voucher." he stated, "Go to Cerulean and redeem it for a free Bike. I don't need a Bike; my Fearow can Fly me anywhere I want!"
"Hope you enjoy Cycling!" he exclaimed. Ruben smiled as he pocketed the Voucher and when he exited the building, he was off like a shot to Cerulean.

Back at the Bike Shop, all Ruben needed to do was to show the man the Bike Voucher. The man took the slip from Ruben's hand and handed him a Bike.
"You can Bike anywhere; in the fields, alongside the river, in caves." he stated, "Cycle to your hearts content! And don't worry; we'll always be here!" As Ruben left the Bike Shop, he hopped on his Bike and began the trek back to Celadon.

Riding his Bike, he wasn't stopped by the Guard that stopped him before.
"I see you have a Bike!" he exclaimed, "It feels great to feel the rush of air in your face as you cycle, am I right?" However, as Ruben left the gate, he was greeted by an unpleasant sight; Bikers.

Bikers, were big, frightening, strong guys who were riding actual motorcycles, and not Bikes. They were loitering around, loudly guffawing with each other. However, there were a few other guys loitering around. They were identified as Cue Balls, most likely by their gleaming, bald heads. The Bikers loved to use Poison-type Pokemon and the Cue Balls used Fighting-type Pokemon.

He was challenged by a bunch of them, however Petrocetti his Kadabra made exceptionally short work of each and every Pokemon they sent out. Eventually, after weaving a path of destruction over the path, he made it to Fuchsia City.

Fuchsia City is a color bathed in a light pink. Fuchsia has the Safari Zone, an amusement park where you can catch all the Pokemon you want. He decided that would wait; healing was more important.

After the heal, he was rummaging through his Bag to find his TM Case, when a Moon Stone fell out. The Moon Stone is native to Mt. Moon. It's a slate-gray colored jagged piece of rock that evolves a select amount of Pokemon. Checking his notes, he found out his Clefairy could evolve; he wasted no chance. When the stone made contact with the pink Fairy Pokemon, Clefairy gleamed a bright white. Clefairy got bigger as it's form changed. Clefairy had evolved into Clefable. Clefairy stood more pronounced on it's two feet. It's ears were bigger as well as its back wings and its tail.
"Clefable." Starlight said, after it evolved.

Ruben decided to check his Pokedex for the data on Clefable.

"Clefable, the Fairy Pokemon.

It has an acute sense of hearing. It can easily hear a pin being dropped nearly 1,100 yards away."

Ruben smiled as he returned his newly evolved Clefable back into her Poke Ball. He wanted to walk around Fuchsia City first before deciding what to do next; which would most likely be a trek through the Safari Zone.

Chapter 20 - Safari Hunts are Good for the Soul

Ruben decided that he was going to go to the Safari Zone first. He entered the large gate that led to the park. He was stopped by some park attendants, stationed at the front desk, who required Ruben to pay a fee to enter the Safari Zone, 500 Poke. Ruben shrugged his shoulders and payed the fee to an attendant. The attendant then handed Ruben a bag full of Safari Balls. The Safari Ball was different from a regular Poke Ball in one place; the top. The top of the Safari Ball was not Red like a Poke Ball, instead was green, and had a camo-like print on it. There were also the word 'Safari Ball' emblazoned on each of the Safari Balls.

"You have until you make 500 steps, or you use up all 30 Safari Balls." an attendant stated, "If either of those happen; it's game over for you."
"But don't worry, you can come right back to us, pay another 500 Poke and continue your Safari trek!" another attendant chimed in, "Hope you have lots of fun in the Safari Zone!"

Ruben nodded and smiled as he walked through the doors and into the Safari Zone.

The Safari Zone was an artificial recreation of a savanna-like area. Large trees dotted the rolling plains. Ruben however, followed some arrows around, walking all over the place. Along the way, Ruben spotted some pretty pecuilar Pokemon, like Chansey and Kangaskhan.

Chansey was a large, pink-colored Pokemon, identified by it's pouch with a large, egg sitting comfortably in it. Kangaskhan, was a rough-looking Pokemon, with a brown, rugged hide and a pouch as well. Resting inside the pouch of a Kangaskhan was its baby. Ruben attempted to catch a Kangaskhan, but decided against it.

Ruben's first successful capture was a Nidoran Male. Nidoran Male, was a purple colored Pokemon, identified by its large ears and horns. Ruben tossed a Safari Ball at the Nidoran. However, it rocked once and the Pokemon popped free. Ruben decided to throw another Safari Ball.

1 shakes, 2 shakes, 3 shakes...CLICK! Nidoran (M) was caught! The Safari Ball disappeared.

"Nidoran's data was added to the Pokedex." Ruben's Pokedex stated as he checked Nidoran's data.

"Nidoran (M), the Poison Pin Pokemon.

Its large ears are flapped like wings when it is listening to distant sounds. It extends toxic barbs when angered."
the Pokedex stated.

"Let's see...a nickname..." Ruben said to himself, then snapped his fingers, "Duh! The Fonz! Of course!" Ruben punched a combination into his Pokedex, then closed it and placed it back into a compartment on his bag.

The second (and final) capture was an Exeggcute. Exeggcute is a group of pink egg-like creatures. Pokemon scientists are unclear whether to classify them as "eggs" or "seeds". The wild Exeggcute took longer to catch for Ruben then the Nidoran did, taking 6 Safari Balls to finally be subdued.

1 shake, 2 shakes, 3 shakes...CLICK! Exeggcute was caught! The Safari Ball vanished.

"Exeggcute's data was added to the Pokedex." Ruben's Pokedex stated.

"Exeggcute, the Egg Pokemon.

Even though it appears to be eggs of some sort, it was discovered to be a life-form more like plant seeds."

"A nickname for an 'Egg Pokemon' would be Eggman, of course!" Ruben exclaimed to himself, punching a combination into his Pokedex.

Ruben entered the last area of the Safari Zone, and found a peculiar box lying on the grass. He went over to it, picked it up and opened it. Inside was a bright pair of false teeth, with the teeth being made of what looked like gold. Ruben scanned the area, hoping to find its owner. Not finding it, he decided to take it out of the Safari Zone and try to find its owner in town.

Ruben then stumbled into a small hut in that same area. Inside was a portly fellow who rubbed his eyes.
"My heavens!" he exclaimed, "Do you know what you just did?"
"Uh...no..." Ruben replied.
"You're the first person to find the Secret House!" the man exclaimed, "And you earned a fabulous reward!"
"I did?" Ruben questioned. The man handed Ruben a sea-blue colored disc.
"That's HM03 Surf," the man stated, "Teach it to a Pokemon and you'll be able to Surf to your hearts content!"
"Wow, cool!" Ruben exclaimed.
"Only thing is you need to beat the Gym Leader in this town to be able to use it. But don't let that deter you!"

Ruben left and before he knew it, the step counter expired and he was out of the Safari Zone.

Ruben then decided to head into the Fuchsia City Gym. The sign said the leader, Koga was a "poisonous ninja master", but the Gym apparently has an identity crisis on its hands. None of the Trainers except for two used a single Poison type Pokemon; they were all Psychic types. That confused Ruben to no end. Ruben couldn't see any walls, but found out inadvertently that the walls were invisible. Ruben found out where the invisible walls were by simply tapping his feet around and before he knew it, he made his way past the Trainers and to Koga himself. Koga was in meditation when he suddenly darted awake, startling Ruben.
"So, you've come to challenge me?" Koga asked, "I am Koga, the Fuchsia City Gym Leader, prepare to fall prey to my poisonous ninja techniques!"

And Ruben's battle for his 5th Gym Badge was underway against Koga.

Koga's 4 Pokemon were Pokemon Ruben had seen before, except for one; Weezing. Weezing was the evolved form of Koffing. Koffing, upon evolution must have split as it had two heads. But all of Koga's Pokemon fell victim to the crushing power of Petrocetti. Poison was weak to Psychic types and a Psychic-type like Petrocetti the Kadabra made quick work of Koga. As Koga's last Pokemon fell, fainted; he sighed dejectedly.
"I have been utterly defeated!" Koga exclaimed, "As your reward, take the Soul Badge!" Koga handed Ruben a small pink-colored Badge in the shape of a heart. "You can use Surf outside of battle now and take this TM too." Ruben was handed a deep purple colored disc.
"That is TM06 Toxic," Koga stated, "It's poison deals more and more damage as the turns pass. It's a time-honored ninja tradition dating back over 400 years!" Ruben was off, off to the Pokemon Center.

Ruben decided to box Penfold, his Meowth for the time being and decided to find his Surfing Pokemon. He decided to head to the location of the 6th Gym; Saffron. He hopped on to Pi Fighter and flew off to the bustling city of Saffron, however; since he didn't step foot into the town yet, he had to stop in Celadon. He had to hand off his Tea to the Guards to get into town.

Saffron was teeming with Rocket Grunts, strutting around liked they owned the place. Because unbeknownst to Ruben; Team Rocket did own the place. The entire city of Saffron was under lockdown thanks to the siege that Team Rocket laid. Ruben was in the teeth of the enemy base, and there was no backing down now. Ruben headed into the Pokemon Center to plan what to do next.

1) Nidoran (M) being nicknamed "The Fonz" is a reference to Twitch Plays Pokemon Red, in which there was a Nidoking with it's nickname being all A's, becoming a reference to the famous "Fonz" from Happy Days.
2) Exeggcute being nicknamed "Eggman" is a reference to Dr. Eggman, Sonic the Hedgehog's arch-nemesis.

Chapter 21 - In the Teeth of the Enemy Base

While in the Saffron City Pokemon Center, Ruben found out he had the box with the Gold Teeth in them and went back to Fuchsia City to find their proper owner. He stumbled into the Warden's house, a stone's throw away from the Fuchsia City Pokemon Center. The Warden a stout, elderly man who turned to Ruben and spit about a garbled mix of of syllables and grunts. Turns out, the Warden was the real owner of the Gold Teeth and Ruben presented them to him. The Warden gleefully took the Teeth and popped them into his mouth.

'Thanks kid!" the Warden exclaimed, "I owe you big time! I couldn't speak a lick of English without my Gold Teeth!"
"I was so embarrassed, I couldn't show my face in the office," the Warden added, "Here's something for your trouble." Ruben was handed a light gray colored disc.
"That is HM04; Strength." the Warden stated, "Teach it to a Pokemon and have it be able to move large boulders; like the one over there." The Warden then pointed to a boulder in question, tucked away in the corner. Teaching it to Evan, the boulder moved away and Ruben was able to pluck the prize hidden behind it; a Rare Candy. Flying back to Saffron, he was ready to confront Team Rocket at Silph Co.

Silph Co. was the tallest building in the Kanto region, a building dominating Saffron's skyline. Silph Co. was the main good developer and producer of Pokemon-related goods and Team Rocket seized the city and took the building over. Beating Rocket Grunts all over the building led Ruben to discover why Team Rocket was here in the first place. Silph Co. had just finished production on the ultimate Poke Ball; the Master Ball. If the Master Ball was to be thrown at any Pokemon in a wild, random encounter; it would be caught without fail. But, what was Team Rocket going to use the Master Ball for if they came into possession of it?

Halfway through his dungeon crawl, he found a small object in the shape of a credit card. It said "SILPH CO. CARD KEY" on it it big red letters, with a Silph Co. logo alongside. The previous owner of this card crudely taped a Team Rocket logo into the bottom right corner of the card. Flipping the card over; Ruben saw that this card could open each and every locked door in the building by being inserted into a slot on the door. Ruben spent a good amount of time opening the locked doors, plucking the jewels hidden within and thumping any Rocket Grunt or Scientist hiding away.

Eventually, Ruben found Gary who was seemingly waiting for him. Gary said he was spying on Ruben as he wandered through town and decided to wait where he was to see if Ruben got any stronger.

Gary's team was pretty much at its final form. His Pidgeotto had evolved into Pidgeot, his Kadabra into Alakazam and his Wartortle into Blastoise. He also had his Growlithe and Exeggcute in his team; but they had not reached their final forms yet. Pidgeot was the final form of Pidgey and had a long crest of red and yellow feathers starting from the tip of its head, cascading down its back. Alakazam now wielded two spoons as opposed to just one that Kadabra used. It's mustache was larger and more pronounced too. Blastoise was the final form of his starter; Squirtle. Blastoise's most defining feature was the two larger hydro cannons that were able to retract back into his shell when they were not in use. Blastoise used its hydro cannons to spew out powerful streams of water to defeat its opponents. Gary's Alakazam proved to be the biggest challenge; nearly taking out both Starlight and Pi Fighter, before succumbing to defeat at the hands of Jolteon. Jolteon made quick work of Blatoise; while Evan took out Growlithe and Exeggcute, with Petrocetti starting things off knocking out Gary's Pidgeot.

After the defeat, Gary boasted he was going to the Indigo Plateau to knock off the Elite Four and become the Champion. He laughed loudly as he teleported away. Ruben then talked to a man who gave Ruben a new Pokemon; a Pokemon called Lapras. Lapras was a sea-blue colored Pokemon with a large shell on its back. Lapras was a Pokemon known for being a ferry and the man hoped Ruben would take good care of it. Ruben needed a Surfing Pokemon and welcomed Lapras into his party with open arms. Giving it the nickname of "Loki", Ruben backtracked a bit and eventually found himself at the company rest room; where he got a complimentary free heal from a woman there.

With his team freshly healed and his team back now to a full 6; Ruben was eager to knock off Team Rocket and free the city of Saffron.

Chapter 22 - In the Silph of Time

With Gary trounced and a new Pokemon added to his team; Ruben decided to continue past where Gary was. Knocking out a Grunt guarding the door was rather easy and Ruben used his Card Key to open the door marked "PRESIDENT'S ROOM". Inside was the head of Team Rocket; Giovanni. He put his hand down on the table, and with his back turned to Ruben, began to speak;

"So, here you are." Giovanni began, "You've tracked me down and you want to free Silph Co. from my clutches." Giovanni then turned around.
"You know you shouldn't stick your nose where it doesn't belong, you'll end up in a world of trouble!" Giovanni took a few steps closer to Ruben, clutched a Poke Ball and was prepared to battle Ruben.

The battle against Giovanni was green, Ruben was fighting to save the Silph Co from being absorbed by Team Rocket and to prevent Giovanni from achieving his grand desires. Giovanni's team was a Nidorino, Kangaskhan, Rhyhorn and Nidoqueen. Nidorino and Nidoqueen were two Pokemon Ruben was unfamiliar with. Nidorino was the evolution of the male Nidoran. It's horn become much more pointy, and more defined. It's large ears were more defined as well. It was able to stand up better on all fours then it could as a Male Nidoran. Nidoqueen was the final form of the female Nidoran. Identified by its large body with a clearly identified chest armor, like plating. Nidoqueen's horn was at its most defined state; mostly because the female Nidoran was more passive then the Male Nidoran and as such didn't develop a need to use her horn; instead relying on biting and scratching attacks.

Nidorino and Nidoqueen went down without much harm thanks to Petrocetti, who learned Psychic not too long before the battle. Kangaskhan was a tough nut to crack; but Petrocetti got Confusion on Kangaskhan and allowed a safe switch for Evan to come in and take care of matters. After Rhyhorn came in, Evan was switched out for Loki, the Lapras. Loki used Surf to flood the battle arena, and deal massive damage to Rhyhorn, thanks to its quadruple weakness to Water. Giovanni threw his hands up in the air and shouted.

"No! Not again!"

"Blast it; you've ruined our plans for Silph!" Giovanni exclaimed, "But remember, ALL Pokemon exist for Team Rocket! We shall meet again!" And like that he ran off, out of the President's Room and out of the building. Ruben walked up to the President, who had a huge smile on his face.

"That was stupendous!" he exclaimed, "You really are a fantastic Trainer!"
"As thanks for saving us in our dire moments; I can give you anything you want. I think this should do the trick." Ruben was handed a purple-colored Poke Ball with a big, white 'M' emblazoned on it.
"That's the Master Ball!" the President of Silph explained, "It's the ultimate Poke Ball. It can catch anything and everything! But...be quiet about using it..."

Ruben smiled and nodded and placed the Master Ball into his pack. He darted out of the Silph Co and into the Pokemon Center to heal.

The next goal for Ruben was the Saffron City Gym. The Guide Gent said at the entrance that Saffron City Gym was famous for its Psychic types, and not to counter them with Fighting types; as the Karate King next door found out; the hard way.

The puzzle was tricky. The floors were lined with teleportation pads; much like in the Silph Co. building. Each pad led to a different pad somewhere in the building. It was up to Ruben to find out which pad led to the Gym Leader. Along the way, Pi Fighter evolved into Pidgeot, giving Ruben his own Pidgeot to counter Gary's.

Ruben had finally made it to the Gym Leader; who was identified as Sabrina. She had long, dark-blue hair and was dressed in a faded red colored jumpsuit. She showed Ruben her powerful psychic powers, taking a spoon and bending it with no effort at all. She then took a Poke Ball and was able to float it in the air before the battle started.

Sabrina's Pokemon were Kadabra, Mr. Mime, Venomoth and Alakazam. Mr. Mime and Venomoth were two new players Ruben had not really encountered. Mr. Mime was a weird-looking Pokemon that acted like a mime. It was able to create walls of glass simply by moving its fingers around in the air in the shape of a plane of glass. Venomoth was a large moth, and the evolution of a Pokemon called Venonat. Identified by its light purple wings and its large identifiable bug eyes, it was not a Psychic type. Rather, Venomoth was classified as a Bug/Poison type which didn't make a whole lot of sense for a so-called "master of Psychic-type Pokemon" to have. But Sabrina's only hard Pokemon was Alakazam.

When Alakazam fell, Sabrina was defeated.
"Oh dear, it seems you were more powerful than I forsaw!" Sabrina exclaimed, "As proof of besting me, take the Marsh Badge!"

Ruben was given his 6th Badge; the Marsh Badge. Ruben beamed brightly; he was 2 Badges away from getting to face the Elite 4, and had only lost 2 Pokemon so far. Things were looking up.

Chapter 23 - An Adept Arranging for Mother: Volcano Bakemeat

With the 6th Badge in his possession, Ruben checked his Map to decide his next location. Cinnabar Island was the place where he was to go next; it was in the far south of the region, nestled on a volcanic island. Ruben found two ways to get there; south from Pallet Town and south from Fuchsia City via the Seafoam Islands. Ruben decided upon heading south from Pallet. That route was shorter, easier and quicker to use. So from Saffron City he flew back home to Pallet, deciding to quickly rest up at home.

Ruben stared at the sea in front of him as he clutched the Poke Ball containing his Lapras. Calling it out to use Surf, he mounted his water-type Pokemon and began the seafaring trek to Cinnabar.

He found his encounter for the route on the island a stone's throw away from Pallet; a Tangela. Weakening it enough to capture it, he tossed the Poke Ball.

1 shake, 2 shakes, 3 shakes. CLICK! Tangela was caught!

"Tangela's data was added to the Pokedex." Ruben's Pokedex stated as the Poke Ball vanished and the data of Tangela appeared on screen.

"Tangela, the Vine Pokemon.

Blue plant vines cloak the POKéMON's identity in a tangled mass. It entangles anything that gets close."

"A good nickname for you would be Ramenman!" Ruben exclaimed, punching a combination into the Pokedex.

The rest of the time, Ruben battled Trainers and wild Pokemon along the way to Cinnabar Island. Cinnabar Island beckoned him, with it's warm climate and inviting waters.

Ruben set foot on Cinnabar Island, the town bathed in a bright red hue. The town was a bustling seaside 'burg, with many people there to enjoy the tropical atmosphere. Healing up, Ruben decided to walk around town, stumbling into a building labeled "Fuji Laboratory". There were many workers, at various machines, and also many people bringing up idle chit-chat. There were a few people requesting trades; but Ruben did not like any of trades presented to him, so he declined.

The room to the furthest of the entrance was the Fossil Room. The room's sole purpose was to revive fossils and bring the Pokemon back to life. Ruben handed the scientist his Helix Fossil and was quickly ordered to leave the building so the scientist could do his work in peace. A quick trip out and back in again granted Ruben his fossil revived.

"That Pokemon is Omanyte, take good care of it!" the scientist explained. Ruben was handed the Poke Ball.

"Omanyte's data was added to the Pokedex." Ruben's Pokedex stated. Ruben checked his Pokedex as the data flashed on screen.

"Omanyte, the Spiral Pokemon.

A prehistoric POKéMON that lived in the primordial sea, it swims by twisting its 10 tentacles about."

"The best nickname for you would be...Lord Helix of course." Ruben exclaimed, punching a combination into his Pokedex.

"Praise Helix!" the scientist's understudy exclaimed, tucked into a corner, looking at a computer screen. Ruben chuckled as he placed Omanyte into his PC, retrieved his Clefable and began to prepare for the Gym Battle.

Approaching the Gym, Ruben walked straight into the doors. His nose hurt as he rubbed his face. The doors were locked shut, and talking to an NPC nearby, Ruben was told to enter the abandoned and burnt Pokemon Mansion. He might find the key to get into the Gym.

Ruben started up at the eerie building that beckoned him, he knew he had to go in, in order to advance his journey another step further.

- The chapter title is verbatem what is spoken in Pokemon Vietnamese Crystal, an "Engrish" translation of Pokemon Japanese Crystal. This line is spoken when you approach to, and talk to the oven in your home. The line is an Engrish translation of this line; "Mom's Specialty! CINNABAR VOLCANO BURGER!"
- Lord Helix is a reference to Twitch Plays Pokemon, and Pokemon Red in which the Helix Fossil quickly obtained god-like status for the game's run.

Chapter 24 - It's Time to Play the Blaine Game

The Pokemon Mansion was a eerie, burnt, decrepit husk of a building. People in town said a mysterious fire destroyed the dwelling; making it uninhabitable. However, Ruben needed to get in there and find the key to get into Blaine's Gym. Why was Blaine's Gym locked and why was it tucked inside this old building? Ruben didn't know. He was just there to simply retrieve it.

Ruben's encounter in the Pokemon Mansion was a wild Koffing. Koffing is a small, spherical purple-colored Pokemon with a large yellow skull and crossbones mark on its stomach. It constantly expelled gas all the time; plumes of toxic, green smoke bellowed out of the small holes dotting it's body.
"Go; Loki!" Ruben exclaimed, sending his large blue Water-type out to battle.

"Use Surf!" Ruben exclaimed. Lapras whipped up a tidal wave which stuck the Koffing, dealing a lot of damage. The Koffing hung on and used Smog. Smog billowed from Koffing's mouth; a plume of the same toxic gases that were usually expelled from Koffing's body. The attack did minimal damage, and luckily; Loki was not Poisoned.

Ruben grabbed a Great Ball and tossed it at the Koffing. The Ball made contact and encapsulated the Koffing into it in a flash of red light.

1 shake, 2 shakes, 3 shakes; CLICK! Koffing was caught. The Ball disappeared as was the case because Ruben had 6 Pokemon on his team.

"Koffing's data was added to the Pokedex." Ruben's Pokedex chirped up as he grabbed it. The data then flashed on screen.

"Koffing, the Poison Gas Pokemon.

Its thin, balloon-like body is inflated by horribly toxic gases. It reeks when it is nearby."

"A nickname for you would be; Smokeball!" Ruben exclaimed to himself, punching a combination into his Pokedex. He closed his Pokedex, placed it back in his bag and continued on his way further into the Mansion.

There were switch beacons dotted all over the Mansion. On the top was a Pokemon Ruben had never seen before; but it's eyes were glowing red. Ruben scratched the back of his head before staring at the base of the pedestal.

Press the Button? The pedestal said. Ruben shrugged his shoulders and decided to press it.

"Who wouldn't?" the pedestal then displayed. Ruben heard a thump and checked it out. He was, unbeknowst to him able to proceed. The switch he pressed unlocked the passageway leading to the upper floor.

On the upper floor, Ruben saw a shutter door and another switch pedestal. He pressed it without any inhibition and the shutter door swapped places, allowing Ruben to proceed.

However, the next puzzle was a drop through the floor, a veritable "leap of faith" so to speak. Ruben decided to just keep heading down and he found himself in a side passage, with another set of stairs. He went down them and found himself in the basement of the burnt-out mansion.

There was yet another switch puzzle, which allowed Ruben to reach the final chunk of the Mansion. After a little more gallivanting around Ruben found the Secret Key. The Secret Key was emblazoned with a Fire-mark on it; indicating it was the key Ruben was looking for. Ruben simply decided to use an Escape Rope to get himself out of there.

Ruben's next challenge was beckoning him. This time it was the Cinnabar Gym. Ruben opened the door with the Secret Key and stepped inside. The whole Gym was like a game show with an upbeat game show tune playing instead of the standard Gym theme. The type used here was Fire. Ground, Rock and especially Water were the types to go at Fire-types.

Ruben did manage to successfully answer all the questions right; and out of spite, battle the Trainers too. This gave his Loki valuable experience to be at a better fighting chance against Blaine.

Blaine was this elderly fellow, with a shiny chrome dome and a puffy white mustache. He was identifiable as much by his mustache as he was by his pair of black sunglasses.

"I am Blaine, the leader of the Cinnabar Gym!" Blaine exclaimed, "My firey Pokemon incinerate all challengers!"
"Hah!" Blaine shouted, "You'd better have Burn Heal!"

Blaine's four Pokemon were Growlithe, Arcanine, Ponyta and Rapidash. Ponyta was a small fire horse, with his mane and tail made entirely of fire. Rapidash was simply bigger; with a bigger fire mane and tail; as well as a sharp horn protruding out of its forehead.

Arcanine was the evolved form of Growlithe. Larger, more intimidating and more regal. Arcanine put up the biggest fight with its speed and bulk. However, Loki was on a roll; Surfing until all of Blaine's Pokemon were down. When Arcanine fell, Blaine exasperatedly fell to the floor.

"Burnt down to cinders!" he exclaimed, "You've beaten me and you've earned the Volcano Badge!" Ruben was handed a small, two-toned fire emblem.
"And take this too." Blaine added, handing Ruben a bright, fire-red TM.
"That's TM35; Fire Blast." Blaine stated, "It's the best Fire-type move out there! Teach it to a Fire-type; and don't waste it on a Water-type!"

Ruben smiled as he put the TM into his Bag; he trudged back to the entrance and exited. When he exited, he heard a voice call out to him.

"Hi Ruben!" the voice exclaimed, "It's me Bill! Won't you assist me with something?"

Chapter 25 - Ruben's Sevii Island Adventure 2016

Ruben stared blankly at Bill, who was waving at him.

"It's me, Bill!" he exclaimed, "It's been a long time; how have you been?"
"Uh, okay." Ruben replied.
"Excellent!" Bill stated, "I have a friend who needs my help."
"With what?" Ruben asked.
"You'll need to come with me to find out." Bill explained.

And like that, they were off.

Bill was the first to get off the boat and walked Ruben around.
"This is One Island." Bill stated, "My friend is working inside the Pokemon Center here; so let's go talk to him."

Inside the Pokemon Center was a lanky fellow with light brown hair.
"Celio!" Bill exclaimed. The young man turned around.
"Oh, hi there Bill!" Celio replied, adjusting his glasses and wiping the sweat of his brow.
"I'm here to help you with your problem." Bill stated.
"Oh, excellent!" Celio stated. Bill then turned to Ruben.
"Say, Ruben." Bill said, "Could you take this to a guy on Two Island? He loves rare stones." Bill handed Ruben a Meteorite.
"Well, if you're going to have your tag-along do that for you; you'll need a Pass for the other two islands." Celio stated and handed Ruben a Tri-Pass.
"This will let you go to Two and to Three Islands." Celio added, "Just show it to the Captain at the Dock and you'll be on your way."

Ruben smiled and nodded and walked out the door of the Pokemon Center. Entering the Dock; he showed the Tri-Pass to the Captain and was off to Two Island.

On Two Island, Ruben found his way to a Game Corner, inside a man was pacing.
"Where is Lostelle?" he said out loud, "She always comes to bring me lunch at this time of day..." Upon seeing Ruben, he walked over to him.
"Have you see Lostelle?" he asked. But, before Ruben could reply; a nasty Biker thug barged into the building.
"Where are those guys?" he complained, "There's no one on this island but me, and they said they were on Three Island!"
"Why don't you actually try waking up before you crawl out of bed, you little punk." the man replied, "This is Two Island; now get your Bike out of here!"
"Tch, whatever." the Biker replied, "These Islands are too confusing." He then left.
"That guy, he scuffed my floor." the man said, then looked up at Ruben, "Please; find Lostelle for me and bring her back here; okay?" Ruben nodded.

Ruben was off, off to Three Island.

On the beach of Three Island, Ruben saw two Bikers harassing a lady on the beach; she was screaming for help, but her screams were being drowned out by the Biker's Bikes and their loud guffawing.

In town, two people; dressed as PokeMart clerks were being boxed in by a gang of Bikers.
"You guys think you are so tough." one clerk said to the gang, "Why do you insist on causing trouble?"
"Trouble?!" a Biker exclaimed, "You should thank us for living up this sleepy island!"

Ruben then started to pick a fight with the Biker gang, before finally drawing ire of the gang's leader who was a Cue Ball. Upon soundly trouncing him, the gang left.
"Humph!" the Cue Ball exclaimed, "We're more than happy to leave this place!"

The clerk approached Ruben and thanked him for his troubles.
"You're looking for Lostelle?" he replied, "She went out Berry picking in Berry Forest. Just go north from here and then go west and you can't miss it."

Berry Forest was a lot like Viridian Forest, in well; it's a Forest. However, Berry Forest had a lot of regenerating Berry spots to allow for Berry harvesting. At the end of the forest was Lostelle, a little girl with red hair in ponytails. She was crying, and whimpering with her hands covering her eyes. She was cowering on the spot. Ruben approached her and she spoke up.

"It's coming!" she exclaimed, "It's coming! I want my Daddy!"

Suddenly, Ruben wad thrust into a battle with a wild Hypno. Ruben wasted no time disposing of this annoyance and crushed it with his Charizard. After the battle was over, Lostelle ran up to Ruben and hugged him tightly around his waist.

"Thank you!" she exclaimed, "Let's go see my Dad!"

Soon, they were back on Two Island, in the same Game Corner where Ruben was previously. Lostelle it is found out; to be the daughter of the owner of the Game Corner.
"Thank you so much!" Lostelle's father exclaimed, "It's so good to see Lostelle safe and sound."
"You have something for me?" he replied. Ruben handed him the Meteorite.
"How did you know I loved rare stones?" he exclaimed, "You sure know how to make a guy feel happy!"
"I'll give you something for your troubles." he added, handing Ruben a Moon Stone. Lostelle then approached Ruben.
"Bye Ruben!" she exclaimed, "Hope to see you again soon! I promise to make you some of my Dad's favorites the next time we meet!"

Ruben smiled and walked out of the Game Corner.

Back on One Island, he entered the Pokemon Center. Bill and Celio were done on their work.

"Well, Ruben." Bill stated, "We're finished; thanks for your assistance."
"I do plan to take you around the island one of these days, Ruben." Celio added.
"Our work is done; the PCs on the Sevii Islands can now freely communicate with the PCs on Kanto." Bill stated.
"And it was all thanks to you Bill, and you too Ruben." Celio stated.
"We were just happy to help!" Bill exclaimed, "Now, we've gotta be on our way!"

Just like that, they left the Sevii Islands and landed back in Cinnabar.
"If you want to go back to the Sevii Islands, take the Boat in Vermilion. Just show them your Pass and you are good to go!"
"Now, I've got to be on my way; see you Ruben!" Bill exclaimed. Ruben waved him off.

7 Badges down; only one more to go. Ruben had to go back to Viridian City to obtain Badge #8.
