I woke up early today, around 8am. I know I wanted to play Gengar and quickly made a list using Steve Perucca amazing decklist program to build my deck (kudos to Steve). I went with a standard Gengar line and was debating who to pair the ghost with. My choices were Dusknoir SF, Sableye SF, Absol SW, Brongzong MD and some other random stuff. In the end, I chose Bronzong because I can bring it up for the Cursed Alloy Poke-Body with my Gengar is knocked out to put some damage counters on Poke-Power Pokemons like Claydol and Uxie.
Left my house around 9.45am, reached Comics Corner just in time for registration and decklist submission. Attendance was very low, about 21 players with 7 Masters, 11 Seniors and 2 Juniors. Then came Round 1 at 11am...
Round 1: vs Dominic (Kingdra)
I know it's not a fair match but what the heck. Kingdra's game plan is to get a Turn-2 Kingdra and start Dragon Pump you to oblivion. My game plan is to snipe any Claydol and Uxie that hits the table, since Kingdra 2-hit KO a Gengar, I can use 2 turns to snipe. I hit a couple of Fainting Spell too during this match which puts Dominic in quite a pinch. I take the prize lead and the game finished with Dominic left with 3 or 4 prizes. 1-0
Round 2: vs Rishwyn (Kingdra)
OMG! Another Kingdra. I stuck with my previous game plan and start sniping any Claydol or Uxie that touched the table surface. I also used a couple of Poltergeist which won me my last prize. 2-0
Round 3: vs Jun Jek (Magnezone/Ampharos/Palkia)
I know this was going to be a tough matchup for Gengar. I could not get a good start and not flipping heads for Fainting Spell. The amount on board control that Magnezone had is virtually second to none. I lost this match due to time. 2-1
Round 4: Zi Kang (Butterfree/Cherrim)
Another troublesome deck >.< Zi Kang started off pretty bad and I kept on sniping any Caterpie that hits the board. He eventually got a Butterfree going and that's when the annoyance came. The healing of the deck is nothing to be snorted at. In the end, it came down to 1-1 prize to the both of us. I flipped a heads on the last KO and we went to sudden death. I had a bad start with an Uxie I think. I managed to get a Haunter and put his Butterfree to sleep. *Sleep Check* Tails! He tried very hard to get a Warp Point and I know he's looking for the card. *Sleep Check* Tails again! I evolved to Gengar and snipe a benched Uxie. *Sleep Check* Tails yet again! He was still looking for a Warp Point this time and could not find it in time. Another snipe to Uxie and good game. 3-1
Finals: Jun Jek (Magnezone/Ampharos/Palkia)
Game 1: Things just turned out ugly for me. I could not get anything going. 1-0
Game 2: More bad things seems to be happening. Ugh! 2-0
For a deck that is just built this morning, going to the Finals and getting second placing overall is not a bad result I guess. I'll need a better luck next time.
