More Than 80 New Johto Pokemon Coming to Pokemon GO!

Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, and many more Pokemon are nearly here! Starting later this week, you’ll have the opportunity to catch more than 80 Pokemon originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver video games. We’ve also implemented some new features to enhance your Pokemon GO experience.

Additional Pokemon: More than 80 Pokemon that were originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver video games, as well as Pokemon with gender-specific variations, will start rolling out in Pokemon GO.

New Evolutions: There are now more opportunities to evolve your Pokemon in Pokemon GO than ever before. Some Pokemon originally discovered in the Kanto region will soon be able to evolve—into Pokemon that inhabit the Johto region! Be on the lookout for new Evolution items at PokeStops, which you’ll need to evolve some Pokemon.

New Encounter Gameplay: When you encounter Pokemon in the wild, don’t be surprised if they react in new ways as you’re trying to catch them. You’ll also notice the addition of new item carousels that allow you to select Berries and Poke Balls directly from the encounter screen. Hone your skills and catch those elusive Pokemon!

New Berries: Pokemon enjoy eating Berries, and you’ll have the opportunity to get two new Berries by spinning the Photo Disc at PokeStops—Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries! Giving a Pokemon a Nanab Berry will slow its movements, making it easier to catch. The Pinap Berry doubles the amount of Candy you’ll receive if your next catch attempt succeeds.

New Avatars and an Expanded Wardrobe: Now you’ll be able to give your avatar a complete upgrade! Customize your look with a whole new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items.

This is awesome. I needed some motivation to open the app more than once a day. Ever since Duel Links came out I've been wallowing away my time with that guilty pleasure.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it uncomfortable for them to move on to Johto without even releasing the Kanto Legendaries...

I've seen lots of things about the 18th, but no official date from Niantic yet.

I can't wait to get my hands on some Ampharos/Totodiles and what not! Generation 2 is my absolute favorite generation and I'm excited to go back out there and catch some Pokemon! :D

    It should be.
Generation 2 is the "best version of the game Gamefreak could have made" on the Gameboy.
It is the game that everyone, even people who weren't born yet, compare with every new Pokémon game due to its length and depth, with good reason.
The remakes take all that and bring it to the cutting edge (again, at the time), creating a remake that adds to the franchise as well as the original game, rather than take several steps back for the sake of authenticity.
We owe a lot to RGBY, but we owe much more of today's fandom--breeding, mechanics, evolution lines, gameplay trends, moral ambiguity, stuff we no longer have like a plethora of postgame content, even trends in the TCG and anime--to gen 2.
Having fond memories of gen 1 and all its progeny, I can honestly say that schoolyard feeling that banks trillions of our nostalgia dollars resonates most with the release and support of Gold and Silver.

Skarmory still has that floating glide animation. I really wish they would do away with that animation on the bird Pokemon. It just looks bad.

Scizor and cyndaquil are finally within reach but my login attempts still only result in "Unable to authenticate" or "login failed". My good scyther will never evolve at this rate. :(
