Advent of Arceus Wallpaper

The official Pokemon Card website has updated with some information on the next Japanese set, The Advent of Arceus, which will be released in Japan on July 8th. Oddly, the website never mentions the set’s name, which means only fan sites know it! Three Arceus cards have been revealed, which you can see below along with translations thanks to Bangiras. Click the thumbnails for larger images.

As stated in the last Advent of Arceus news story, there will be a total of twelve Arceus cards between this set and its two theme decks, nine of which are one of each elemental type and three of which are Colorless LV.X’s. All Arceus cards will receive a special holographic texture and treatment, as you can see on the card images below. The backgrounds are similar to the English EX FireRed and LeafGreen reverse holos in which a holographic shape is created out of a lack of ink on the card, revealing the holographic paper underneath. The background appears to be in the shape of a wave. Once you have collected all Arceus cards and lay them next to each other, the waves on each card will complete a larger, connected wave image (place the Fire and Lightning Arceus cards together in your head and you will see part of the wave). Perhaps the connecting waves symbolize that these Arceus will work very well together?

You can run as many Arceus cards as you like in your deck, which is known as the “Arceus Rule.” It is similar to the Unown rule in the Neo sets, except instead of restricting the amount of Pokemon you can have, you can have as many you want. Obviously, Pokemon Card Laboratory wants Arceus to be a new deck archetype. We still do not know what the “Ultimate Zone” promo card does that was mentioned in the previous news story, but it will apparently make it much easier to run an Arceus deck.

Each Arceus is at Level 100, accounting for its status as the “Alpha” Pokemon (translation: god Pokemon). According to the information stated about the Arceus cards, the cards below are not Arceus’ true power however. “With the power to shake the foundation of the card universe, introducing the illusionary Pokemon, Arceus! Next time… Arceus’ true power will be revealed… These secrets only scratch the surface of Arceus’ power!” It looks like we are actually going to get strong Arceus cards! Considering that most legendary Pokemon are terrible in the TCG, this is quite refreshing!
